Very odd - my CMDR name has gone!. I've not been able to play for a while for one reason or another, and checked the support page yesterday. My Beta CMDR has vanished and I've had to request it again. Anyone else or just me??..

That happened to me as well. Perhaps working as intended (not sure), as I re-entered my old Commander name and had it back in the game when I finally got on to play. So try that.
Hmm.. strange. I'll try and see if it works in game. Although in theory support.orerve.net is linked directly to your CMDR name/last login/credit balance is it not?- All I have is "Welcome to Elite, Commander" where my CMDR name used to be.. <shrugs>
At the start of the Gamma I got a bit excited and entered a new commander name assuming I could switch back to my reserved one any time. However when I tried to switch back using the profile manager on the web site it says I have already submitted that request?! Which I have - but will it now set it back to my original commander name?

You get to choose a new commander name every time you clear your save.

I assume clear save resets your progress and puts you back in a sidey with 100cr? So if you ever want to change your name to something else you have to do this?

Yes, if you have any of the other starter options then you can select them again here as well.

Didn't we do a good enough job of helping with Beta... are we being punished for something?

If you clear Dave, select the new name and then start playing gamma again then you're good to go. However, there's no guarantee that your desired name is still available.... So you're rolling the dice and risk resetting your progress for nothing.
is there a way to change name without clearing save?
