So can I filter out NPCs from my gaming experience?

To be perfectly honest, I don't see why not.

'S one for the hardcore PvP-ers, and the "normal" universe would then become more balanced, as those looking for purely PvP have their own battleground. It doesn't affect the PvE universe, as nobody who wants PvP-only will turn it off.

They are on the whole predictable and dumb. However, you need them ... the galaxy is HUGE and there won't be that many players to fill it .. want to fly in areas whereby you meet nothing ? What if you play at the wrong hours due to time zones - empty servers ? That sounds fun

Well, we have people making the illogical request to remove human controlled ships from THEIR online gaming experience, I can make the illogical request to remove AI controlled ships from MY online gaming experience.

No, that's called "single player". I think you'll find the request is to have a separate group that removes player combat, which is perfectly logical as shooting or being shot by other players is clearly disliked by 36.22% of people in the poll.

I'm assuming they haven't tried it because the game only exists on paper at this point for everybody here.

And what's on paper can sell/not sell the game to potential players.... as I wrote in another thread - "I just had to explain to my girlfriend what the whole hoo-ha was about as she's not really a gamer and was wondering what all the fuss was with me clattering away at the keyboard. She's interested in the game, through my passion, and may play. However when I explained the whole PvE/PvP thing (and actually playing Devil's Advocate and arguing more for PvP and its "realism") she was dead against it. She's very non-competitive and was point-blank that she wouldn't even TRY the PvP game (too much ego, bullying and competition) but that she WOULD be interested in the PvE one. There are more people like this I'm absolutely sure... don't cater, they won't play."

Because it does affect my game. And yours. And Liqua's. And everyone else's. These players will then no longer be part of my game at any point.

Good! I don't want people in my galaxy that aren't interested in consensual PvP! What am I going to get out of killing them?

What if I only want to trade and mine, but not fight NPC ships?

I´m in the 62,20% group btw, because mining and trading is PvE too, I just decided I want to exclude robot ship combat if you want to exclude human combat.

And as I said, why not?

I mean, the irony of having an exclusive PvP-only battleground that's so empty it's impossible to progress through anything other than trading and mining. It's just too good to pass up.

And my point was you don't have fewer players in each user base because without the vegetarian table those guys stay at home. They're not going to say, "well, vegetables are out, guess I'll eat meat".

Ah, I see what you mean now. :)

Oh you. ;) You know full well what I meant.

I've played a lot of MMOs. In every single one of them, the experience was different. Some work well for PvP, others don't. Some I just don't like the PvP aspects of it (EVE for one). Point is, you cannot judge it until you've tried it - nobody here has tried PvP in Elite, so let's wait and see what happens. I wasn't being (entirely) facetious. :p People are judging what they've literally never tried.

Those players will not be part of your game at any point anyway. The alternative to open PvE isn't open PvP, it's solo

OK, but you're assuming they will never try PvP in Elite ever. I think that's slightly unrealistic - especially if that's the rulebook and their friends are doing it. A couple of points and then I'm done because I can't explain this any more:

1) The non-IrnBru death penalty means that even if you are killed by another player, the penalty is light... practically no loss.
2) Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely... etc. The chances of meeting another player in an encounter vs an NPC is astronomical (literally!).

If that's your honest argument they may as well do away with the multiplayer aspect altogether - it's pointless.

Of course, you don't really believe what you typed there. :p

In terms of open non-consensual PvP combat I do, which is what the PvE crowd are afraid of.

Most player interaction (social, trading, etc) is going to happen around stations, planets, and other points of interest. It's not going to happen out in the sticks except on rare occasion.

And the kind of open non-consensual PvP combat that the PvErs are afraid of will not be happening around these places. Because, Yogi, Mr Ranger isn't going to like it... :p

True, and it would be nice if those that aren't entirely against every aspect of PvP do indeed give the game mode a try. But it is generally true that those who dislike PvP in other similar games are likely to unlike PvP in this one too.

Sounds like someone's making a bit of a Boo-boo... :D

I agree, and exactly those "non-consensual Pvp" complainers are the ones who keep destroying games for over a decade now, and congratulations your´re doing it to E D too, well done! I have a suspicion they are all agents of CCP infiltrating the forum here, to keep Elite from being a competition.

So far, good job!

Have you ever thought about writing for the Daily Mail?

How have they destroyed these games, exactly? Oh, and which games?

I would have thought that having a pure PvE option would make Elite: Dangerous more competitive against EVE rather than less....

Another melodramatic poster ... this forum is full of them :D

All I have to say on this is meh! We PvE'ers are not going to stop this being TF2 in space so I look forward to taking your cargo and watching your escape pod fly into the distance :p
