Elite: Dangerous Trailer now with added honesty

Sorry but I think this video is very biased and not honest at all. It shows the game like It would be all about Supercruising and staring at "dots"... but it is not!

I think you need a humour injection... :)

The video is simply making fun at the somewhat OTT official video that takes some obvious liberties with the true nature of the game.

It's funny they should make that trailer since they intentionally made a game that wasn't like that at all, but rather one that felt as close to the original Elites as possible (but on a grander scale, and better looking and sounding); and so, ironically, a gameplay video of the 1984 Elite gives a more accurate preview of what the game is like than the trailer does.

What is most amusing about all of this is the fact that we are looking at it from a current player base perspective. Most all of us are in Gamma.
The reality is.. A new player who has only seen the trailer and then logs on will see what the parody was trying to convey..

Therefore, it is astonishing that so many are resentful of the parody siting it will harm the momentum.

Bottom line.. the new player will not see or experience what he saw in the official trailer.. They will be disappointed.. it will harm the image far more than the parody does and over time the parody will become very valid to many people..

Keep your eye on the forums.. They will speak up about it after the 16th...

It should prove to be quite entertaining to read :)

I just hope FDev's PR department is being paid something respectible, because dealing with this is... headache inducing.

It's common practice to make Launch trailers that misrepresent the actual product. This is done to get some additional sales from people that have not followed the game but happen to watch the Launch trailer.

Yep and it's a scam... at least the honest one will show those people who come in expecting an action based game that this is a logistics based game.

It would not be too much of a big deal if you could get a refund after buying it and playing it realising you were miss-sold it, but you cannot, so its basically games companies/publishers way of deceiving consumers... so someone has shown what it is really like if they lose sales then imo it is because the game would never have normally been bought by those buyers, its the gaming version of PPI... and EVERYONE hates PPI...

A friend of mine has posted this delight after having watched the new trailer for Elite.

Enjoy and check out his original post on Reddit:

This is far more accurate, albeit incomplete, compared to the actual in-game experience.

If combat was 1/2 as exciting as the "trailer" I'd give them a pass. Hell, if anything in the trailer was even 1/2 possible, I'd give them a pass. But it's not, so I won't.

Exactly. Blatant scams are now the normal expected way to do business. We expect marketers to lie to us and misrepresent their product. For some naive reason I thought that since ED was a crowd funded game and since David Braben seems to be an enthusiast they might be slightly above such shenanigans.

And imagine their reaction when they log on and fly around the first few days..
"This is nothing like the video... I want a refund" <--- LOL prepare for the new refund threads after Dec 16 :D
I can just see it now....

"false advertising"
"misleading"
"not as shown"
"my uncle is a lawyer"
"class action"
"calls for boycott"
yep.... *sip* it's gona be most entertaining to see unfold. :D

I think people forget how trailers really used to be, and that its perfectly fine.
To be honest its a kickass trailer.
Buyer beware..

The original trailer is a fantastic trailer but not representative at all of actual gameplay, which the joke trailer exaggerates as jokes tend to do.

It highlights a more serious issue though for people buying into the game expecting THAT and playing THIS though.

FD are aiming this at the type of audience more suited to "that other game".

It will draw criticism, I don't doubt.

I think that was quite amusing. but a huge opportunity has been missed. I mean, what happens when you open fire in a no fire zone? Especially if you hit a station?

That would have been very amusing to add to the clip...

Z....

For a CGI game trailer I think the ED one is about as close to a real game as you're gonna find.

Yet the last time I saw trailers for WoW, SC2, SWTOR, SC, etc I didn't see such a hysterical level of whining that those trailers didn't match the game exactly. All this moaning and hating on the trailer is pretty pathetic imo.
