I am a little concerned

I love elite from the beginning.
DB and his team are geniuses and the potential for this game is huge. But ... as there is a backbone, it lacks everything that refines the game and makes it fun (and not boring). I am afraid of reviews which will be released if the game will be released in its present state, on 16 dec.

Playing Elite at this time is like living in an unfurnished house. Yeah it provides you with shelter and it's a really cool house, but some kitchen appliances and something besides the floor to sit on would be nice.

Looking at it present state I think most think its fantastic. The magazines have mostly covered the game and love it over here in the UK because they understand just how good it will be knowing David’s a past work.

I’m actually concerned about its popularity taking off the way I think it will. I’d rather be in space with thousands of mature old school gamers that loved the classic Elites that will play it right. If the game goes global hit then all the COD kiddies enter on mass and think the way to play is kill, kill, kill and the old favourite that never gets old Kill it will be a sad day.

With bad reviews (and there will be bad reviews), FD won't get much money and the game dies. Since there is no singleplayer, it is indeed his problem.

While there is no single-player offline mode, there is a single-player online mode - albeit with the game world affected by other players (although you will never encounter them in solo) and no game pause.

Because at the moment the game is boring...
There're a ton of features but no one is really complete.
Tranding was the only path quite completed but since Gamma 2, it's a non-sense gameplay.
Mining is useless and disconnected from the trading and exploring path and too less profitable.
Bounty hunting lacks of informations about where to find the enemy and wich type of ship he/they have..
Probably the only funny path is the Piracy but...for the same problem, fitting an high-end ship, independently from the class, it's quite impossible due to overpriced components.
So who will buy the actual game after 16 Dec. will think that is really boring and an unfinished game...if Frontie won't sell the game, we won't play the complete game in the next years.

Love how people think the game will die before its even out. Same with that Star C game people saying its failing and will end up poor with what is being cut from it.

Give the games a chance. ED is not going to go away any time soon and Elite have survived thirty years.

But you can get refineries if you check outfitting....

No???

Lol, are you still playing the original Elite in 2014 ?!
It's a non sense statement IMHO.

My concerns is based on 5 months of play: I've tested different gameplay styles on every release FD published. Now, the game it's without doubt unfinished and potentially boring for a non fanboy prospective.
Why FD has decided to release now ?
It's too early if you want to set a mark in the gaming market and aim to acquire users to be able to finish the game between 3 or 4 years.

Maybe being the original cult Combat/Trading game of the 80’s being released in a few days in its modern form it has a lot to live up to. I emit I enjoyed the original version and think fondly of the Game. It has its place in game history being the first 3D Space combat game. It started the ball rolling. It may have had many versions over the past thirty years but this has to be the most exciting. Yes it was converted to Amiga, Atari ST, Apple II, Amstrad, Commodore 64, ZX Specy, IBM PC compatible platforms in its life but this is a whole new ball game. Its being dragged up to date and exploring what new hardware can offer the game.

Being backed by 24,000 backers on KS showed how much this game was regarded. As we can all read on here a high percentage have played through the early stages and are enjoying it. It might not be every ones Cup of tea.

But the Elite journey has not properly started and like most I’m looking forward to what this new version brings to the table. People may get bored but personally I think it’s a game I will enjoy like many others for years. Playing Elite online was just a dream back in 1984. With that Rift tech its gone beyond simply enjoying the variety of players you can meet and the many ways to enjoy the game. Guess we just have to have faith. The only game I’ve lost a bit of faith in is DayZ as it’s just a development nightmare just now but Elite I've followed since day one of KS and so far for me it's not failed to impress.

Lol love it, so everyone who disagrees with you is a fanboy?

Game is great, bugs excepted and FD have said more content to come, plus overarching story which we haven't had before.

Because at the moment the game is boring...

I strongly disagree.

There're a ton of features but no one is really complete.

The way you phrase it I am forced to disagree.
Many features are complete and functioning very well, which is not to say the devs won't keep improving them, because as was announced this game will be developed and perfected for years to come.
It is true that not all features are complete and not all planned features are already in. But this also was announced and expected. Give the devs time to do their jobs. As far as I am concerned so far they have created the best space sim ever and it will only get better.

Trading was the only path quite completed but since Gamma 2, it's a non-sense gameplay.

Why would that be? Perhaps your doing things wrong?

Mining is useless and disconnected from the trading and exploring path and too less profitable.

You are definitely doing things wrong. Follow some tutorials. Mining if done right is very profitable.

Bounty hunting lacks of informations about where to find the enemy and wich type of ship he/they have..

This I totally agree with. Either we should get a few locations to search for the target, or they should refer us to GalNet and have some indicators there.
I hope in the future we will be required to contact certain npc ships for information, or informants on stations and planets and follow a trail that way.

Probably the only funny path is the Piracy but...for the same problem, fitting an high-end ship, independently from the class, it's quite impossible due to overpriced components.

I do not fundamentally disagree, but I feel one never should take on ships/commanders/nps that outclass you, if you don't have the right ship, or do not possess the skill. Just postpone taking on the stronger opponents until you feel you are ready. Be patient and bide your time.
Components can be very pricey, but this is all in the game. I hope that in the future we will be able to earn discounts by doing jobs for factions and manufacturers. This would be a cool incentive to take on certain missions and give us shortcuts to acquiring certain expensive components.

Many people do understand how this game is developed and they will also see the high quality of what has been developed at the moment. I think this will win their trust in FD. Deservedly so.
I totally disagree that the game is boring. I feel it is magnificent. And there is even more to come. Personally I believe this already is the best space sim ever created. Even though I have been critical about some of FD's decisions, I understand that in the end this game is the vision of Braben and his developers and I can take it or leave it. I take it. There never before was a spacesim that gave me such an immersive feeling of actually traveling between the stars as ED. This game is unique.

If Frontier releases an official press release with development plans for 2015 that would reduce a lot of criticism.

It's a game. The modern computer game always starts this way. It will be fine. People want that feel of space. The game gives that....

I'm thinking that some of you have missed the implications involved in the ability to influence factions, and therefore the control of systems... CRY HAVOC AND LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR!

Sorry, no time for a long reply:
On the first statement: how FD will survive till the end of development if the game won't sell ?!
I think that this video will clarify how they're are presenting ED to the gamers market at launch and how the game really is.

http://youtu.be/DZeO-4F45WM

On the second statment, I totally agree with you, in fact my concern is related on the launch date, not at the quality of the entire project, wich is awesome: too early with an unfinished product that could effectively bring to an unsuccessful game and a failure for the future. The money gained from the crowdfunding will not pay the development of the entire project, instead Star Citizen probably will.

I've spent more than 150 $ backing ED, so I'll play because I like it, but why they are risking so much releasing an unfinished product ?

People complaining its boring have 100s of hours logged in in a game thats not even finished and only getting better by the month with more and more on its way.

I think it will be fine.
