My Drabble is DEFINITELY 100 words, not 101.

“Commander, what's the nature of your emergency?”

7 words. Total: 7 words.

Commander Quack had fired a distress beacon in a brief moment of panic; now he needed to explain his actions.

20 words. Total: 27 words.

“You see, I'm writing a Drabble–”

6 words. Total: 33 words.

“A DRABBLE!? That's no reason to make a distress call!” the voice replied.

13 words. Total: 46 words.

Quack didn't really know who he was talking to or even how these things work, and it’s reflected in his writing.

21 words. Total: 67 words.

“I know, it's just that... I always fill up the Drabble with too much conversation and before I know it I can't bring it to a sensible conclusion because I've run out of

33 words. Total: 100 words.

Fix your damn word counter. ;)

(Special mention to Duck .. that was a funny ending :D)

The ending was funny. The continuation of the discussion of the Drabble's length onto this thread's hilarious.
The meta-meta-referential nature of this Drabble does it for me. The duck gets my vote.

I voted Cathy - yet another beautifully written drabble. I love it when a drabble has perfect flow throughout, never feeling like it has anything cut or padded to hit the word count, and The Last Distress Call is spot on for this.

OK lol this is becoming Eurovision in the voting :p...

heheh Love re-reading the Drabbles and picking up the extra bits you miss.

I read yours like a M&S advert.. and that turned me off...

I liked the ending, it was great...

Now I re-read it.. i catch the flow etc... tough I already voted :D

I also note I don't spend any time on layout of my drabbles..

MUST DO BETTER...

Drabblers,
Are you a cutter or a padder?. Do you write a single clause or two and feed it steroids, or do you indulge yourself and crash diet to make the count?.

Mostly a cutter. My best drabbles have been padders though, or close enough on the first write that not too much edit is needed.

Bit of both, Normally a few words over. I did start well, my first one was 100 words at first write. I had to check it 3 times to make sure I wasn't fooling myself.

I'm a cutter, not an padder.

Always over 100 words to start with and then remove the stuff that isn't core to the point I'm trying to make. Then I usually have to add a word or two because the bit's I've cut bring it back to too few words.

A bit of both, sometimes I want to add an idea and cut something to allow it to fit but then find I need to pad a couple of words.

The hardest bit is knowing when to stop, which is why the deadline is good. I can't say that I'm fully satisfied with any of mine yet, so I could be like Leonardo da Vinchi with the Mona Lisa which he never considered finished:p:D

The Poll closes late afternoon/early evening, so I'll declare a winner when I get home this afternoon, although I think that Cathy should already start thinking about a new subject!

Is there any way you could tag these with [DRABBLE] or something similar? I keep reading these polls and wondering what the hell they're about??
