I thought the Emperor was dying?

No news! Anyone seen anything about this story element/event?

I am the Emperor's, his holiness, successor. Praised be His Name. Rumors of His demise are premature. When the time comes, and I am named Holy Ruler, all will be revealed.

Okay so I just logged in to see the galnet news feed.... Erm, so the BIG launch story line, dynamic evolving universe stuff that couldn't possibly be done offline amounts to two galaxy wide news pieces a few paragraphs long, one about the fed banning some plant (smuggling opportunity?) and the other a slave revolt in some corner of the empire which presumably signals the existence of a "war zone". Nothing local at all, nothing dynamic, nothing that I can get involved in without traveling half way across the empire and even then as there are only the two things happening anywhere in inhabited space I suppose my own input will just be utterly swamped by everyone else swarming into the area.

Colour me unimpressed.

That slave revolt playing out in a system right now. And being supressed by capships. That's the slaver queen from the newsletters sending her capships there. the one said to make a play for the throne.

people don't die in a day and empires don't fall in one either. things take time. the warming up is happening.

if we all go there and help her supress the revolt. or all go there and kick her evil slaving butt. the rest of the imperial game of thrones might just play very differently.

if we all go there

That is what I am most disappointed about, ED is a game of mass actions not my actions. I was still holding out hope that they had some kind of dynamic story system that was going to make all the vast number of systems come alive with their own story and content so I could be a key figure if and when I wanted to be in my own story. Instead we have this galaxy wide pair of stories that we can choose to involved outselves in knowing full well that unless we lead a guild of folks willing to act with us we're not going to make any meaningful difference. Gah, ED is turning out to be exactly as bad as my worst fears for it, its like the devs have exactly the opposite idea of what makes a fun game to me :(

Sorry, you bought the wrong game then. If you think the universe is going to revolve around you then why did you even think a game that has huge factions spanning multiple star systems would be for you? An individual, unless they can lead, will only ever be a bit-part. If it sounds like I don't have any sympathy for your gripe, then you're right -- I don't, your expectations are completely unreasonable.

And to me that's the most endearing part of ED. For ONCE a game where I am not some super hero. Just a dude making my own little way.

After 25+ years of gaming. That whole you are a superhero and can save the galaxy has become nauseating tbh.

Nice attitude. I think my expectations were perfectly reasonable given the advertising and information that was available and the previous games in the series. But you know if you're happy with two story lines filling a galaxy of hundreds of thousands of inhabited systems in an otherwise sparse game environment filled with samey half developed content then good for you.

I am actually right there with you. I didn't expect the dynamic story line of course, I was with and development since KS started. But I did have some expectations that they would do something more with 400 billion star systems than just couple of little events spanning across few star systems in this vast Galaxy. There is always future of course. I for one going to check out these vents no matter how far I have to travel from the founders world sector. I am afraid however that this war will be similar to the war in Eranin where the war zones will just disappear eventually and Galnet Newsweed will see a post that queen won or empire won or alliance just killed everyone or those static warsones will be there for months.

I'll go enjoy the fun tonight, but yeah it was obvious than there won't be anything more than what we saw in gamma. It looks like FD spent all their efforts on creating a galaxy just for the sake of vast numbers to attract some attention. In similar way they are attracting attention now by promoting cash event to rush to Elite rank. It seems FD is worried about numbers more than quality of the released content.

Hopefully they have something more in store than just new ships every month or so. Without extra game features and some interesting content There is no future for ED. It will definitely have a core players, original Elite refugees and people who need space sim fix while waiting for SC (I am one of them). ED is not a bad game if you look at it from the potential perspective. But it will be a looong time until it has realized its potential. They really need to learn how to make the things happen in game. It looks like David Braben had ideas but even those ideas didn't get into a game. Most like it's technically impossible to make interesting space sim in just 2 years of development. Here is to two more years of ED growing and getting more fun!

It also seems that forum is full of jokers who'd rather grind than have something fun to do in game ;). You can read all the sarcastic replies lol nobody really cares, maybe that why FD just made a space sim with basic game mechanics since these guys don't give a jack about anything more dynamic and fun than grind. I'll prolly get another infraction but I hoesntly don't care any more.

Very good point. This is a game for grinders who just want to be left alone. "Go away, this is not the game for you," they say. Well, that does not bode well for an online game. This is one of the most rancid and apathetic communities I've been in.
