Watching the Newbies

Oh ot is live!

Geez, I've been playing 30 mins and only just noticed that this is ver 1.0.0.0, I expected to be reset from the gamma. bit disappointed, I am miles from anywhere and not a soul around ;/

Just remember you were all newbies at one point

Reading through this thread just makes me cringe. This is exactly why no new players will enter open play which you're all complaining about in another thread.

stuff like
What we need is one of the backers who aren't stuck at work and are managing to play, to stream their play so we can see the fun. :D
rep for the first person to post a newbie flying into the side of a station

and
I am gonna have to take some footage here
Screenshots too please, I can't watch youtube at work :D

is extremely detrimental to new players, and consenquently choose solo mode to avoid said harrasment. This in turn also affects the veterans in open play, as you're all worried about will be empty because of solo mode, will indeed be the case.

Remember back in alpha when you got to try out the game for the first time ? How would you feel about having watchfull eyes staring at you just waiting to pounce on the first mistake you did. How would you feel having someone laugh at you the first time you try to dock or land, and even worse, having it shared involuntarily on vid to everyone else to make fun of it ?
Doesn't feel nice does it ?

Everyone needs to learn the first few times, even you.

So please throttle back on the harrasments, make room for all the new players learning the game, and everybody wins.

This does not matter at all. Deploying weapons and litterally harassing noobs is bad, but not smiling and laughing at their first tries. There is no need to exaggerate this situation like a primary school teacher :D

Just had the most entertaining sight in-game for a while...
My trading carried me into the Kini System, iirc there is just one station, so I went there.

When I dropped in I saw instantly the problem:
Around 20 Sideys, not NPCs mind you but players, all trying to land at that tiny station 4 or 5 platforms.
Some randomly crashing into it, engulfing in a nice explosion :D

I watched it for around 30 minutes, tried to answer questions in chat as best as I could and then decided that I'd switch to Solo and sell of my goods.

Damn, that was fun! :)

Ah it's fine. We were all newbies not that long ago and we've all had our I'm glad nobody was around to see that moments. Hell just today I managed to hit roll instead of lateral thrust and faceplant onto the pad!

When you're a noob people laugh at your mistakes. Nobody should take it seriously.

Just remember guys we're laughing at you, not with you ... or ... wait no, I said that wrong.

As a newbie who can't wait to go home and accidentally slam into a station, I think you're off-base. You have to be able to laugh at your mistakes!

Excellent attitude :D +1

I personally have no problem with others having a giggle at my mistakes. And believe me there have been many

For those that cant watch. Here's one in CLEVE HUB.

While upload this I heard another one explode.

You can laugh all you like when I get home and start. Its a game. Sometimes funny stuff is funny. I dont mind being laughed at. :) I''ll do all the tutorials and then die in a ball of flames at the port umpteen times. That was part of the fun in 84. I expect a steep learning curve. If I wanted easy I'd play kerplunk. Ive done the combat tutorials and passed them except the last one which I cant get past the 6th wave as my ship is shot to pieces by then. But I'm in it for exploration and trading, not combat.

Please feel free to snigger, chortle and guffaw at my expense. Its a game. :)

My advice to any new players reading this : try hitting Boost while landing or taking off and watch the fun. If you're gonna crash and burn, do it in style, and you will be far from the only one to ever do it. Trust me. Many a station has an interestingly shaped black smudge on the walls to indicate I was there :p

We were all the same !!!!

First time I played there were no tutorial at all, passed half an hour to understand how to ask docking permission :)

I laught at my self, next time I pushed the boost button to see what it is and crashed my self in a station wall ....

Sh*t happens better laught at it ;)

I've been playing a month and I rate myself 'competent'.
What did go and do yesturday, in Gamma ! I only boosted into the station and swerved around and crashed near the letter box,

I should now better. :D :D :D

No shame, No gain :p
