Idiot authority vessels keep flying into my gunsights when I try to kill wanted ships

A lot of people are being dismissive of the problem, but I think they're being a little too forgiving here. It's easy to say "just watch your fire", but when you're in an intense fire fight with a hostile, you find yourself within less and 1 km and then BOOM a police ship flies out of no where right into your line of fire it's hard to not hit them by accident. If I were in that police ships position, and a friendly human player hit me I wouldn't instantly turn on them, I'd tell them to watch it at least a few times (and apologise for flying into their line of fire).

That would be sensible. However I don't think it's likely to change, despite people complaining about it for months. It would also be nice if they prioritised the higher bounties, but no apparently one friendly fire incident and I'm much more important to kill than that pirate with a five figure bounty.

It can get annoying, to be sure, but as a player you're always going to have more situational awareness than the AI does.

Once you get used to it and remember that friendly fire will always aggro the cops it becomes easier to avoid.

The action to take if you do hit 'em is to immediately bug out of the fight, dock at an outpost of the cops faction - not a station, get scanned on the way in and the station will open fire on you, killing you in seconds - and pay it off. Then get to work repairing your rep with that faction, because it will have taken a significant hit.

Seriously guys? You think a cop would fly directly in front of someone else's blazing guns?

This is a gameplay mechanic that needs fixing, not faux context applied to it.

I think the cop would execute the loan gunman and continue hunting the nasty, Wanted man. If you are blazing guns in the direction of the cops you're doing it wrong lol *shakes head*

Always keep an eye on your radar, I feel silly for needing to tell anyone this, it's like when i need to remind people to look at the minimap in DoTA 2.

Its realistic, it happened all the time in WW2 dogfights.

In Gulf war 1 1990 (albeit on the ground ) I think the yanks killed more Brits than the Iraqis.

Are you American Mikkel?

Lol, no I am Danish :) While it may have happened often, I highly doubt those British pilots would suddenly turn against their American allies and declare total war.

Exactly my sentiment. It's not that I can't learn to hold my fire and look at radar. It's that the system authority's response is quite unreasonable in said situation. It also feels immersion breaking.

Only, the cops aren't always the stronger part against a players beefed up bounty hunter ship. Even then they still act like terminating maniacs in the situation we are discussing here.

You think a few Federal Eagles is bad. Imagine trying to shoot a Viper through a blob of 5 Imperial Anacondas.... but it was kinda funny, that Viper had no chance at all. Looked like a Disco Tech with all the Beam Turrets firing.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

With 'unreasonable man' George Bernard Shaw clearly meant System Authority Vessels. Another way to put it:
if( sysAuthVes.priorityDestroyingPlayerWhoAccidentallyHitPoliceShipInLineOfFireCausingNoActualDmgDuringHuntForBinLaden > sysAuthVes.priorityKillingBinLaden ){ cop.mentalStat = maniacal; }

Idiot authority vessels keep flying into my gunsights when I try to kill wanted ships. PLEASE make them stop do that. At the very least let them have some tolerance for being hit while I hunt this wanted criminal. I mean if they insist on flying so close to wanted ships I am firing at...

Simple - HOLD YOUR FIRE.

If you were really in a warzone, you wouldn't keep firing when your squadmates enter the line of fire, right?
Just be careful out there - this game really isn't about just keeping your finger on the trigger

The fact that police prioritize the player who accidentally scratch his paint over the big wanted pirate is bad design... and they should address it.
I personally never had this problem because I fly my ship pretty good and pay good attention to surroundings. But that this doesn't mean its not a real problem and should be left like this.

There should be a grace period when you accidentally shoot an police or civilian ship. Something like "Check your fire commander". I'm pretty sure they can implement internal timers that can check that and if you persist you get the wanted status as you should.

If it's full-on melee, I tend to stick to lasers as the insta-hit seems to give less chance of hitting friendlies...

They are a bit annoying :/

If you notice as well... NPC ships do next to no damage at all vs other NPCs. I watched 3 authority ships attacking a federal dropship in a USS who didn't even have a shield generator. They did no damage to each other. Yet soon as you wade in to attack your shields are down in seconds (and vise versa)...

Dont "fix" this. Its how it works - you dont pull the trigger unless you intend killing whats in front of you.

Idiot authority vessel: 'Stop firing at me you bloody goose, can't you see I'm trying to do my job?!'

I think this is actually going to be changed which in my view is a shame. From the NPC's point of view, you could be there to help the wanted NPC they're targetting.

Hence the nickname "Disconda" :)

Its so they dont steal important kills. How mad would you be if a Police Eagle got the last shot in on your Elite Anaconda mark making you lose 200k Creds.

Agreed - I've almost given up it's happened to me so many times. I just trade peacefully now -
