Be careful when popping off Noobies

Yup, I may head over there. Any starter system in particular? Mine was Chemaku - I always felt that was classier than Aulin - any ganking happening at Chemaku?

Completely misread the title before clicking... but what a great thread! Definitely worth the rep, I'm not one for Open play but I'm very tempted to try this out myself :)

This is how you play this game! Give a goal, get people excited, and change the galaxy! Have some rep! Anyone else out there, 'Save the Noobs!'

+Rep. This is the kind of thing we need and I'll be more than happy to come to someones aid if I see they need it. Not only will this make things more fun for more experienced players on both sides of the fence, it gives new players a chance to get on their feet without constant grief. A system where the risk of running into "bad guys" is always there but the chance of "good guys" showing up to help is just awesome. "Honest" pirates won't complain, griefers get a dose of medicine. No doubt we'll here from them on the forums, lol.

When I played STO I liked to fly a cloaking Romulan ship(I mainly played Fed, so this was like my evil alter ego) and hunt Feds that strayed too far from the pack. When/if their friends came to their aid and either blew me up or ran me off I tipped my hat and said "good job, game working as it should". If I realized after the first kill they were not experienced enough to put up a real fight and had no help I either disengaged and moved on or I opened a dialogue with them if they were interested.

This is s good example of player generated economics

Newbies make easy kills, too much newbie killing attracts empathy from more experienced players, who in turn kill off the newbie-killers hence reducing the perception that newbies are easy kills. Maybe the next step is experienced pirate groups coming to prey on the newb protectors???

Great game

You just posting this for the rep?:) I'll be doing the same soon enough at the starter systems when I go online........ not till after X-mas.

A Cobra interdicted me in Aulin, since it was a player I was curious to what will happen, so I submitted right away. Performed a KWS scan on him, he was clean and did not write anything to me, so I asked him if there is something he wanted. He demanded my cargo and I refused, then asked him what he will do about it. The fool opened fire on my fully upgraded cobra and it took him too long to realize he won't be winning that fight, but he did not escape either.

As long as there's bounty on their heads, killing newbie-poppers (is that a word? I want it to be a word...) is just as good a profit making method as anything else. But then again there's not many new players in and around Lugh anyways. Hmmm maybe we should form the "Crimson State New Pilot Preservation Group" or somethin...yeah something like that...oh and here's +rep for being a nice guy to the new ones.

Thank god for ability to pop noobs as there is nothing else to do in the game. I guess this is what FD promised as content on start day!

Right on Commander to do such a thing is self defeating they will just go solo. Its just not cricket!

As a bounty hunter I will even restrain myself if they are wanted for minor infringements <1000CR (tbh dont know how long I will do that)

Not condoning blasting the new guys, but to be fair there isn't anything out else there that will be shooting at them unless they specifically go and look for it.

I have to be honest.. I didn't go to a newbie starting point to protect people, I was just passing through, saw a viper pop a pair of sidewinders who could barely fly, so I docked, relaunched, the viper scanned me but ignored me, he popped the sidey behind me. At this point I was certain he was a douch.. :) I turned round and showed him the power of a fully tooled cobra, messaged one of the sideys in the station, he didn't reply, but came out and did a little dance around me before carrying on his way, the same viper tried to launch out the station again, I shot him a quick message telling him why I killed him and gabled him in the letterbox. He logged off, was worth the fine!! :) I'm making a point to keep an eye on things now if I'm near populated areas.

There's not enough action? Oh come on.

There's no excuse for reaping newbies. Not credits, not action, not anything else. If you do that, you do that only for your own twisted pleasure, and it makes you a really bad person.

Don't forget: Everytime you pop a newbie, a kitten is born. (Wait, what?)

When you tire of the white knight thing, it can also be entertaining to sit on a docking pad at the back of a station and watch the first docking attempts. Some do OK, some haven't noticed their thrusters yet, others overshoot and try to land backwards or wobble for ages over and around the pad. Then there are the 'piece of cake' types who come zipping in and loop all around the station only to pick up multiple loitering fines and get zapped. One I saw tried the glacial approach, staring at the entrance for several minutes before inching towards landing. Timed out and boom.

I do not judge of course, I welcome all new Cmdrs, and will respond violently if anyone ganks a new Cmdr just for the hell of it. But it is half an hour well spent. My original intention was to help out if anyone had questions or whatever, but I didn't think unexpected advice right in the middle of docking (yaw 180 to land etc) would be helpful, all things considered. Also I laughed quite a bit, in a kind and loving way of course.
