"Are you sure you wish to abandon this mission? [Y/N]" Confirmation Popup

So I just lost out on a lot of money due to a miss-click.

Was double checking the system I needed to jump to for a cargo delivery mission (They needed Palladium) and accidentally clicked the ABANDON button instead of BACK.

Thankfully I still made a profit (selling it on the market) but I missed out on over 50,000 Cr due to my miss-click.

What I'd like to see is a "Are you sure you wish to abandon this mission? [Yes/No]" confirmation popup so this won't happen.

And it should make you wait 2 seconds before the "yes" option becomes available so you don't accidentally hit it if you are moving two steps ahead of what you are actually seeing due to muscle memory.

I would only back this if it was optional.
I've not once misclicked on any of my missions in the UI, despite having to constantly keep opening them up to remind me which one I'm flying to. Same for accepting and declining missions, even when they swapped the button locations!

Last thing we need is Microsoft flag-ups asking if we're sure we want to do something, or little paperclips going, "Hi, it looks like you're trying to crash into the docking port like a Noob - Would you like me to trash your ship for you?" :D

Actually, I'd go for that if there were a David Braben bobblehead!!

Like your suggestion for the DB help bobblehead :D

But generally I say NO NO and thrice NO. You should be bright enough to not click the Abandon option in the first place.
If you're going to have idiot proofing, how about an ability to reactivate an abandoned mission? I mean you are in the privacy of your own spaceship, who would know if you changed your mind? :)

Cheers all

It's not really a question of hand-holding or babysitting, so much as a safety check against muscle memory actions. Been a good couple of times I've lost a mission because abandoning it follows almost exactly the same keypressing as requesting docking - occasionally the game doesn't pick up on my 2nd 'E' press after pulling up the menu. Doesn't exactly make you jump for joy when you're 5km from the drop-off point with a cargo bay full of gold and THAT happens! :p

I would suggest slowing yourself down just a touch then, otherwise that same muscle memory will one day have you accidentally shooting the wrong target. Remember too that this is still a computer game and you may well encounter slight lags as the data loads from your hard drive, or something.

Take your time - Just as you should be watching your fire and checking your targets, you should be watching your keypresses. Get those wrong and you could easily hit something even more disastrous like the self-destruct.

+1. Yes, this needs to happen. I too have lost out on a mission and was forced to dump the now "stolen" cargo out in space somewhere. This is a drastic and irreversible action, I don't think anyone should mind if the game makes sure you want to really throw money and rep away. Either a confirmation dialog, or a separate "abandon missions" section under all active mission. Then there would be no extra clicking for the people who are worried about that. Just go into the abandon mission selection instead and click. Same amount of clicks, but abundantly clear what you're about to do. You shouldn't need to worry about an errant key press instantly nullifying your progress and turning you into a potential criminal.

I guess we need to abandon the suggestion guys, this one random person on the Internet has never misclicked anything.

It has nothing to do with not being "bright enough" (Herp a derp, what does dis button do...durrr) to not click the abandon button, it has to do with the fact that once you click that button it's an instant abandonment of the mission with no confirmation. Almost every other option in the left hand panel that has a sub menu has the "BACK" as the bottom option, yet the missions popup has it as the top option. It's inconsistent and easy to mess up.

Having a confirmation screen eliminates that problem completely.

You do know the Self-Destruct option has a confirmation popup, right? THOSE HAND HOLDING S.

As a workaround, bind a "UI back" key, and only use that to back out of mission screens. That way you'll never be able to accidentally hit abandon instead of back.

Thats what i do. :) I mis-pressed once. After that im either cautious or use the back button. Works great. Would love a YES/NO option to 2 other things though. The automatic USS counter missions and smuggler dealer that just "grabs" what you have and pay you. No question if you want to sell. Get too close and its bye bye goods. Sometimes you pop in so close you dont have an option.

Yes please FD, badly want this one. It's too easy to accidentally abandon a mission which you've been grinding to complete for a few hours.

I think this would be a good addition. I haven't miss clicked yet but that's not the point. In a game that is soooo unforgiving a little addition like this is not game breaking, it doesn't provide an advantage and I wouldn't say it's hand holding or dumbing down, just an extra option that makes sense. Maybe while on the subject there could be ship computer advanced settings where you can change the gui colour scheme (this is available by simple modding but frontier have hinted they are working on) and turning off confirmations such as mission abandoning
