Newcomer / Intro Welcome to open play "Die you Nube" , not much of a welcome

New ( Nube ) player started exploring and got hit 3 times and killed by "Die you unfortunate Nube" players on open game.
So dropped back to single player game.

Welcome to open play isnt so welcome for new players.
Guess all games suffer from mindless kids who wait to shoot up new players for little gain.
These guys clearly attacking new "Nube" players for their perverted fun and no gain.

Welcome to the game. Sorry that's been your first experience. That's not been my experience during testing, but as more players join it's going to happen. You did the right thing dropping back to Solo play, but do come back to Open play soon.

Check what system you're in. While the "mindless" can inhabit most places, I suspect they are clustered in Anarchy systems - you may want to stick to those systems with higher Security - this is a system-wide attribute that can be viewed on the System Map side panel.

As you say, it's a no gain thing for the "mindless" in game terms - there's no cargo, no bounty, no rankings, etc. I guess it's whatever floats their boat. You seem to be taking it in your stride.

I'm afraid this is going to happen whether you are a nube or not, as you said there are always going to be other players that like killing for the sake of killing. It's a bit cowardly in my opinion as there are plenty of veteran players out there to attack. The only advice I can think to give you is get away from your starting position as soon as possible and find a nice system that gives you lots of things to do. In my home system of 3 Aquilae I can do missions, bounty hunt, trade, mine and even pirate rival factions if choose to. Many of the bases have heaps of upgrades to buy as well. Find a nice quiet system, establish a temporary base, earn some credits, get some experience, upgrade your ship and then go kick some griefing bottom. Or you can just play solo and wait til your experience is greater and you've got a badass Viper, but I don't think this is as much fun.

I was afraid that new players might be turned off from open play for the reason you stated, but give it another chance, there are plenty of players out there who are not homicidal manics.

If you are going to take the time to post, post your system too. That way it's not just a complaining post.
Maybe someone would love to come rid the stars of psychotic murderers?

I've logged quite a few hours since release, and haven't had any griefing issues yet. But I'm not sure how many real people I've seen out there (no idea how to tell person from NPC). Other than one friendly hello over comms while in a station, I feel like all my encounters have been NPC's.

Don't give up on open-play yet. Like you said, all online games are exposed to some of this. But it's a really, really, really big universe out there. The places with griefers should be few and far between.

Are you sure they are other players and not NPC's

The reason I ask is that I have only seen about 3 other players since launch. I'd be happy to get attacked by a real player as I'm bored to tears over here!

Players appear on your scanner as hollow shapes as oppposed to NPCs which are solid.

Welcome to the game and die

I guess I was expecting a more mature player base, given game complexity, it was the childish "die nube expletive language" that was insulting, and from 3 separate encounters in different systems, only playing first for 3 hours.

On the positive side I have learned to fly , dock and trade successfully and can pretty much dock safely and quickly and navigate between systems, just have to learn how to defend myself, from the nube killers.

I assume these nub killer players get some sort of bandit penalty?

I can understand why the game has single and group play modes as otherwise its a tough environment.

To be honest I'd report such players.

Killing someone is one thing, while messaging "die you unfortunate noob" is bordering on harassment simply because someone's new.

Real people have CMDR in front of their names.
Fake people (NPC's) don't.

So you see a "Chris Taylor" flying around, it's very likely to be an NPC.
If you see a "CMDR Chris Taylor" flying around, it's very likely to be a Real Person.

Oh, NPC's do send communications, like "You die now, [Commander]", whereas real players haven't worked out what the communications key is yet :p

(so it was a good chance the nasty person was an NPC)

These were real players

Oh and definitely real players I dont think that NPCs would use the type of language used.

haha I've been shot down by npc pirates 6 times... and there was the one time I found an actual player, tried to talk to them nicely and they didn't answer. So when nice things don't work... guns tend to get deployed and I try to shoot down eagles with free sidewinders. :)

Same commander/player in three different systems, or three different commanders/players all seemingly using the same phrase? Maybe you just got unlucky running into them again and again.

The language shouldn't be tolerated, and you can report players through the game's menu. As someone else said, post the system name and you'll find vigilante bounty hunters and 'white knights' may show up. Please don't post individual commander names to the boards.

You can use the Report player option in the lancher menu.

If enough people report the same CMDR for offensive comms or for griefing - this will be info for the instance seperation that FD have talked about implementing.

It is unfortunate that you first have to experience these things before you can report them, but if you do report them they will be dealt with.

thanks for replies

Thanks for positive replies guys, look forward to meeting some good guys out there.

will be back in multiplayer when I join up with my other nube friends who currently are finding controls more difficult than I.

As I've said on a different thread, these griefers are mostly cowards and will probably get a fine for murder and then quickly pay it off before heading out to kill again. I just don't see the point. Surely if you want to be 'notorious' you try and accumulate the largest bounty in the system and welcome anyone to 'come and have a go'. The slime of the Elite universe are those that see a newbie sidewinder, interdict them with their hugely modded cobra and then kill them before returning to a station to pay off their wanted status.

I have seen fines go up a large amount for murder to disuade people from doing this but unfortunately there is always going to be this type of player and as much as I hate them, I would not want any in game measures taken that might counter this way of playing if it would restrict the freedom of play. Get some combat experience fighting NPCs, upgrade your ship (even a heavily upgraded sidewinder can be a force to be reckoned with) and take the fight to them.
