Please make the game harder

This is EXACTLY how Elite's difficulty should work.

- Spawn new pilots in safe system areas.

- Have Security Level shown clearly for every system, so that new pilots see it and understand it.

- Make LOW security level system really dangerous, even for good players with good ships.

Then sit back and let players manage their own difficulty level. :)

Sorted!

Stupid idea is stupid....this isn't Eve...

The biggest hazard to your health from my experience is Pilot Error! I'm sure many would agree they have died or almost due to their own hand, crashing, no clearance, too close to star or out of fuel. NPCs are not at that level, and they should actually be "Dangeorus".

Lol no clearance is my biggest foe. I can't tell you how many times my mind has wandered while heading to dock. That speaks to the problem though, when around a choke point I should be the most alert and on my toes..

Why is spawning new pilots in safe areas a stupid idea?

My answer... it's not a stupid idea.

Why is showing the existing security level more clearly a stupid idea?

Currently, Security Level is shown in the "System Map", but it doesn't show up for single-star systems, because the view defaults to showing some inconsequential scientific data about the star.

If you want to see the Security Level on that screen, you need to grab the joystick (or use WASD) and move the "view cursor" OFF the sun and into an empty area of the map.

That's obviously a design oversight.

The "System Security Level" used to be shown in the Galaxy Map, per star... in a late Beta. That's gone.

I'm pretty sure it used to be shown on the left-hand Nav Target display... in a mid Beta. That's gone.

So, my idea of making the "Security Level" clearly displayed is not stupid.

Why is making Low Security areas dangerous a stupid idea?

If it's not very dangerous to go there, then the security level surely is not "Low".

The whole point of a high/low security level relates directly to how safe or dangerous a place is.

Isn't it?

So, strike three... I disagree that making LOW SECURITY places actually DANGEROUS is a stupid idea.

To my mind, none of the things I suggested were stupid ideas.

If you disagree, please explain specifically which part was stupid.

You do realise that this is how it is meant to already be, just that the difficulty of differing security level systems is not tuned properly? You do realise that we already have high and low security systems... and that the low security systems are more risky than the high.... yes?

you guys should also think about the expansions, even if the game is easy for you now. it's still in "development".
meaning you'll be able to buy more when the ship interior comes out, and zero g fps battles meaning even more stuff to buy....thats not including a whole storm of more stuff to buy when the planetary landings come out...
you could get to a point that you might just not be able to buy everything in the game....or something else that is challenging will come along...

A lot of my thoughts are based on what I saw in beta, but I've noticed it's already heading there too. I also think the npcs are a bit bugged currently with the bizarre loadouts and 2 days ago I had two Cobras come to a dead stop mid dogfight. They would still shoot me if I got in front.

EXACTLY!! Have some rep sir!

This is a heartening thread to read. I agree completely.

At the moment I'm actually losing motivation to work towards bigger and better (combat) ships simply because there is quite literally nothing out there that is actually dangerous to the player once he has access to a Cobra, or depending on skill the Viper.
Which is more than sad, considering how cheap those two are...

Sure, you can make it harder for yourself by opting not to use a Shield Cell Bank, but that's not really a solution, is it?

One of the "top 5 bounty" players is listed as being in my system right now.

I... think I'll leave my Shield Cell Bank installed for the time being.

;)

shield cell bank? the avarage npc lasts 10 seconds.
hahaha not related but i have taken to landing without my gear just using the control tower as a brake, we should have another speed landing contest BOING BLAM, landed

The NPCs do seem easier in release than they have been in some of the beta stages. Sidewinder NPCs used to make me pull allot of G's to get them, now they just seem to twerk in front of my HUD so I can shoot them without getting close to moving an aweful lot. When I first started playing elite I used to get hand ache on the stick from thowing it around allot, now I don't. Also had some NPCs rated as mostly harmless put up more of a fight than some of the rated 'Elite' NPCs.

I was thinking about attacking something like a Anaconda in a Viper.
Not bringing a Shield Cell Bank makes that rather interesting. At least for me and my inferior manoeuvring thruster skills. :p

But it doesn't affect you at all.
If there were clearly labelled areas that are "easy" you'd stick to those until you feel comfortable to leave them. Problem solved.

I agree entirely. And I imagine it will come, or at least I'm hopeful. It's very early days, I mean we can't even land on planets yet.
