I'm sharing this with you because at 3:27am my wife won't listen!

I'm buzzing having just destroyed an Anaconda with my freagle! 50K plus bounty - yes please :)
But that wasn't the highlight of my session - coming in to land to claim the bounty the star is behind me and the shadow of my ship is on the station exterior. Cue my jaw dropping over perhaps the silliest thing but just seeing the shadow change as I maneuvered and even better seeing the landing gear engage... and retract... and engage (well it WAS a thing of beauty!).... *SIGH*
Thank you SO much FD what a creation this is!

Nice kill pilot, congrats! Good call letting the wife sleep too. >___>

Those shadow moments are great, when you really get that sense of scale and depth. I can't imagine how good this game must be for the Oculus people except that almost none of them play when the OR is bugged out.

If they don't understand that this game is the closest they'll ever get to experiencing space then it is their loss. I for one am grateful that having been born a little too soon for human space exploration I have the next best thing!

Nice work bagging the 'conda :)

On the subject of shadows, I had a similar moment of wonder earlier when I was tailing a hauler, just getting the hang of my new wake scanner. At one point the hauler was a few hundred metres ahead, almost but not quite eclipsing the nearby star, and the subtle effect of the hauler's shadow on the canopy as I made gentle course corrections was so realistic I at first thought I was imagining it.

Reminds me of 20 years ago when I took off from a planet in frontier and saw the shadows of the clouds on the ground and a church tower showing the current time on the clock face. Lighting tinted in the correct colour from the type of star in the system too. Being able to switch to an external view to see the landing gear retract was the icing on the cake. Or maybe it was the proper physics and lack of stealth loading screens as well :p

Can't wait until Frontier: Dangerous comes out :D

Whenever I talk about Elite to my wife, she starts to get that glassy-eyed expression and I can literally feel her phasing out of my version of the perceivable universe. One of these days she's just vanish right in front of me. It's a shame she's missing out on something that I've waited to be doing for 30 years.
So I put on my headphones as she watches her favorite crime shows... Then we go out to dinner as I struggle to get her attention long enough to tell her of my adventures in virtual-space, while she talks about someone else's life that she saw on TV... Then they call gamers escapists?

My wife usually gets a blank expression and zones out whenever I talk about Elite...
... and most other things for that matter. :-(

This might sound bad, but thank you both for affirming my decision to remain single. Stark reminders for my moments of loneliness when tempted by the fantasy of finding a partner; the moments when I most want to lose myself in ED...

By the way, the devs are planning that at one point, we are going to be able to walk around our own ships. Sometime next year.

My wife does similar. And she also like to criticize how others live and what they did or did not do. I always tell her, that I couldn't' care less how others live off their lives.
Meanwhile, I'm trying to haul 40tons of cargo 2 jumps away. The game's biggest fault so far, that it cannot be paused. She are incapable understanding, that I just can't pause it, especially in the middle of a fight. So she hates this game. I try to tell her about how stars born and die and everything pretty much related to astronomy, but I would be probably better off talking to a wall instead. If it's not about what someone did or who got killed or who said what, she couldn't care less.
We are the head-on opposite of each other in pretty much everything, but we also complete each other at the same time. I can't save money, she can. I can change the lock on the door or hook up speakers and TV and computers or fix the car, she has no clue about it.
