This poll is fundamentally flawed in both assuming that all these changes were done to "please the new crowd", and that all the "new crowd" wants is wrong by default. Just to give some examples from the "issues" mentioned in the linked thread:
- Solo mode. Was announced early on, was always the plan, free switching was always the plan, nothing new here to "please the new crowd".
- Supercruise exit distance at stations. It is implied here that it had destroyed PvP/piracy at stations, whereas that was never the intended place for it to happen. Piracy was always meant to exist out there, in the cold uncaring void, not right outside the door of a heavily armed and fully operational battle station, I mean starport.
- NPCs with no shields exist because some players also do not have shields in order to maximize cargo space. Maybe it's a bit silly that even pirate NPCs do so, but there is no indication this change to NPC loadouts was done to do any other than introduce more variety.
- Shield cells. Regardless of any potential critizism, they've been there for quite some time already, and they had been mentioned very early on during development, in fact.
- The insurance "tweaks" were simply the effective removal of backer perks that were explicitly marked during the time frame of their availability. Plus, the game is no easier due to insurance being lower for those with a discount, it merely reduces the grind to recuperate (for which I am grateful).
- Cargo insurance has also been mentioned several months back already, so no surprise that it will come. Plus, we don't even know how it will work, possibly this will be something you'll have to purchase again each time you fill your hold.
- Rare commodities were indeed too good a money maker initially indeed, now they are in quite good place where they enable small-time long distance trading as a viable alternative to short distance bulk trading. (Which also increases viability of small and cheap ships like the Hauler, or the Adder, whereas previously literally all trading lead to T6 and above, now you can be a successful trader in a small ship.)
- I have no idea in which way docking has been made easier at all. It's mostly unchanged from the Alpha when docking was first introduced.
- Anarchies are only safe if you are equipped and experienced enough to defend against those other ships trying to do the same as you are doing to them. Especially for new player, a pirate Cobra attacking is as scary as ever.
- Last but not least the reduction in NPC kill stealing. I'll just answer sarcastically because I still can't believe people are critisizing FD for doing what has been asked for, again and again, ever since the very first iteration of money-for-combat in the Alpha. This is like possible the best thing they have done since release.
The only real surprise here was the kill stealing change, and that was a positive one.
(For the record, I've always spoken up against "dumbing the game down", but I simply don't see such a thing happening here at all.)
