Fit fuel scoops and explore infinitely they said... 7 red stars in a row [ragequit]

I remember when games were actually hard. Not like the typical hand holding games of today. Elite is daring to be truly difficult and for me it hasn't gone far enough.

Try playing the original "Rainbow Six" or the recently re-released "Another World". Talk about unforgiving. One shot and you are dead. Mission over. The sense of entitlement in modern gamers is unbelievable.

There is plenty of money to be made exploring known systems while you have starter gear. That way if you can't scoop, just pop in a station and refuel. I've made over 300k since launch in my Sidewinder doing that. Also, always choose economical over fastest route. The increase in jumps will give you a better chance of finding a star for refueling in one tank, not to mention using less fuel to begin with.

Bigger FSD - uses less fuel to cover larger distances, and gives more options to actually reach scoopable stars. And always check your galactic map for scoopable stars, never start a trip that you have no idea you'll be able to finish.

When i take my first travel 2000ly + away i ended up several times in zones that i can only describe as 'Stellar Graveyards' with very veeery small amount of stars for fuel scoop.Jump after jump after jump only dead stars.Everyone, be very carefull when traveling and always check whats in front of you 50ly-100ly.

I'm treating the "ragequit" as an amusing meme now, basically whenever you have any basic complaint about a gameplay system that gets you killed, you need to append "ragequit".

I doubt it's ever meant to be serious...we are mostly grown adults after all!

To be fair, the OP is not the first person to suffer that problem. One of my friends also, rage quit the other day because of similar problems.

ED is very unforgiving with the starter configurations and it can be demoralising to see your hard earned credits and upgrades wasted when this happens.

Ravenstar68

It can be unforgiving full stop. I died twice a couple of nights ago because npc ships flew into me. Once speed docking, the other in combat. My Cobra isn't fully pimped so altogether it only cost me a little over 400,000 credits, still hurt though. At least your friend and the OP had the opportunity to avoid their death by learning the mechanics (which stars can be scooped from) and how to read the map before flying out into deep space and risking everything (did they not have insurance money saved?)

Really, what is it with all these people posting who quit after one mishap or mistake? I'd be embarrassed to post something like this. The game gives you the information so learn to use it.

Trolling. They sometimes aim to create and flame longest discussions. But it is more embarrassing in my opinion.

I bet they didn't say:
"After 3 reds in a row you must carry on jumping into gamble systems and never under any circumstances turn back to refuel and plot a different route."

Bye.

Exactly. Player stupidity = ragequit = refined and better player base.

Well, when you're down to half fuel, it might be a good idea to turn back to the last system you got fuel at, and pick a different route.

They're drama queens. If they really intended to quit, they wouldn't have posted on the forums about it.

So I decided to move away from the starting systems and make my own way in the galaxy. Seven unusable stars in a row, no station to dock at, I blew up everything I'd worked for. What's the point of even having fuel scoops in the game if the risk is you can't use them, so you must dock at every available station anyway just in case?

/uninstall.

You seem to be complaining about the layout of the Galaxy? Exploring should be risky and there should be places that are really difficult to get to. I would hate it if Frontier started dumbing the Galaxy down to appease whiners.

Thousands of LY under my belt and never once got into this situation. Yes, there were some patches of bad stars but rarely more than one or two in a row.

But having a) Good jump range and b) frequently refuel so you will never be caught with your pants down, can help avoid it.

I don't recall ever planning a route and thinking, my, ill never make it through that with my fuel.

If i had got caught out, due to lack of planning, i would slap myself, and make a mental note to take care in future. If i was going to make a post about my stupidity on the forums, i would do it properly, by saying "LOL, i'm so dumb", not "This game is rubbish, i quit".

At least the former will give others a good chuckle, instead of generating a waves of facepalms around the world so strong that the shockwaves will be felt on Jupiter!

All it really takes is ONE instance of not being able to scoop from any particular star to comprehend that not all stars will provide fuel. So what does one do? One checks and makes sure that the stars in one's route provide enough sources of fuel... Otherwise it would be like planning a road-trip without checking to see if there are gas stations along the roads one plans to use. Simple logic. I fail to see why people don't apply a little bit of forethought into what they plan on doing. And fail to understand even more, why after their fumble, come back to blame the game for their oversight.

I almost did this thinking "ahh, the next one will be okay" .. but at half a tank I changed tactic and headed off to the nearest populated system and just made it. The game isn't going to hand hold you and as you've found out, fuel scoop does not = constant supply. Too often people tout it as a panacea.

I think the issue is compounded when you have a little ship with low jump distance capability because the route mapper (if you're using it) will weave you all over the place in order to get you from A to B and match your jump range. Not sure about your situation but I would never start an exploration trip in to the unknown without at least 12 LY jump capability or 15 to be comfortable. I think it's also fair to say that not every ship can suit every situation.

So what happened to the distress beacon when you empty your fuel tank by supercruising around?
And what happened to "dont fly what you cant afford to lose?

So if someone ragequits because he:
- doesnt know how fuel scoops work
- isnt able to manage his fuel
- isnt able to empty his tank
- flies without insurance...

What can I say?
Pebcak.

Another player blaming the game for their own mistake.

Yeah, my fault, I didn't familiarise myself with all this:

M6 V
K6 V
F7 V
K7 V
K2 V
M3 V
K5 V
G0 V
M4 V, DQ8 VII
K3 V
F8 V
G0 V, G2 V, Y2 V
M4 V
M0 V, M3 V
M5 V
M2 V
M9 V, L2 V, L3 V
K0 V, M4 V
K0 V
M0 V
K0 V, M1 V

I should have known there was information in the galaxy map and I should have memorised all of the above numbers and letters and known what they all mean and then memorised the route and not just assumed there was simply no mechanic to refuel.

I'm all for risk v reward and I would have been happy to pay a premium to operate scoops on some stars. The assumption you know the information is there in the map and have a degree in astro navigation to interpret it is just a bit lame imo.
