I'm really happy to see so many reviews that give ED its due for what it does right, mention where it struggles, and know enough to look to the future with anticipation.
I'm
especially happy to be past the official launch date. Now we no longer have to wade through all the budding Nostrildamus prognosticators, spouting gems like...
"It's going to great destroyed in reviews."
"...won't stop this game getting crucified if it launches as little more than..."
"...seriously flop hard upon release..."
"...just wait until reviews come out and the game is annihilated in the reviews for how much of a chore docking is. Enjoy losing millions of dollars Frontier.".
"...16th of December will the the day when the game gets crucified..."
"...may very well turn out to be one of the worst games in history"
Nope, didn't happen.
For some people deeply involved in the Alpha/Beta stages, there was a rather large loss of perspective. They'd
seen Real Actual Game Mechanics being built. They'd
seen behind the curtain. For some, seeing all that was simply too much, and they lost the ability to objectively assess what was, ultimately, the release of a forty-quid game about flying fun spaceships.
As these reviews come in, we're finding that most of them think that it's actually a
pretty good forty-quid game about flying fun spaceships.
Should we suffer through another round of doomsayers predicting the End of the World, I'll simply go back to doing what I do
every time someone predicts the End of the World.
I plan what
I'll be doing the day after.
Fly safe, all. See you out there.
