NPCs jumping away when I'm right behind themw

Something needs to be done about NPCs being able to jump away when I'm right behind them shooting at them.
Why is it that as a player they are able to stop me from jumping if they're too close, but they can get away whenever they want? It's unfair.

Yes I'm salty because as I was just about to kill a 40K bounty Federal Dropship, the guy jumped away when I was right behind him. If it was the other way around I wouldn't have been able to jump away in that circumstance.
It has happened 3 times already.

I'm working up to get a Frameshift Wake Scanner, but the point remains. Something needs to be done about this.

That was fixed a long time ago.

You're either not as close as you think, you took to long, or it was pre-charged.

Use sub-targeting to take out their FSD once shields are down.

I find the NPCs often teleport around the system while in supercruise. One minute you're right behind them, the next they're 760LS in a completely different direction. They often also move in small teleports in a different direction than the one they're facing.

Wrong. I was close enough that my shields were touching his hull. I was staying that close to him firing every weapon I had and he still jumped away.

Would you like me to record the next encounter for you? I'd be more than happy to prove that it is not "fixed." It was not pre charged, because once his hull reached 42% I got the Surge Detected message.
While he was waiting for his FSD to charge up, I was still inches from him unloading every bit of multicannon ammo I had. But no, he still jumped away and the 40K bounty went with him. It's unfair.

I agree, it should be as long as you hit their FSD they should not be able to jump

Next time I'll target their FSD, but my point is as a player you can't jump away when you've got a ship near you because they'll mass lock you.
But NPCs can jump away whenever they damn well please. It's like their FSD aren't even affected by the fact I'm right behind them.

It *was* fixed a while ago. But it became broken again. I too have had NPCs jump out without any delay when I have been right on top of them.

Needs fixing again, has happened to me a good few times now more annoying when its a bigger ship that has taken a while to grind down, when it gets to about 40% hull you get the surge detected message and within seconds its gone no matter if you are only a few meters away or not.

Happened to me 3 times yesterday! Really annoying. One NPC got out with 1% hull.
I was less than 100m away the whole time from when he started charging his FSD to when he jumped.

It's supposed to just slow them down from jumping but I agree that it's possibly not working right.
Also though, small ships would barely effect another ship with little mass.
Yet it should slow their countdown.
I'd like to see an NPC overheat and blow up someday (even if I lost the bounty).
Definitely more balancing is in order, also for when they decide to run. Often ships decide to try to escape too late to bother.

this...so annoying to interdict them. is it server lag or something?

A $30k (ish) Asp got away from me last night with 1% hull. I couldn't help but laugh.

MY own fault for not have a wake scanner, and an interdiction thingy...

Z...

What ship are you flying? You won't stop the ship from jumping, you will only slow it down. You can jump in a small ship when beside a Type 9, it's just takes a while. If you're in a small ship it will barely affect the other.

Get yourself a bigger ship with bigger guns.

Flying a Viper and have so far lost another Viper, a Cobra, and a Federal Dropship. I know it won't stop them from jumping, but it's like they are completely unaffected by the fact that I'm right behind them and mass locking them.

Get a bigger ship with bigger guns? Really? Despite other people in this very thread claiming the same thing happening to them you think getting a bigger ship with bigger guns will stop them from jumping away?

Yep, you will be able to destroy them before they even have a chance to jump :p. Admittedly I did have the same problem a few times in my viper but I haven't really noticed it with my cobra.
