Elite 4k rig at 60fps | warning for others

Same monitor here, but on a 780Ti and i5 3570K @ 4.3.

Worst fps I see is low 50s in stations.

That extra fov left and right makes a difference, totally agree on the xtra immersion. I play ARMA//DayZ too and it's great for those games.

Odd ball reporting in: 34" LG 21:9 monitor (34um95-p) w/ GTX 980 and 8 core 5960x

Looks amazing, it's like sitting on the bridge of the Enterprise with this monitor.
Full 60fps w/ no dips ever. Thank you FD for supporting 21:9 screens. I 34" 21:9s to be more immersive than 4K at this point in development.

OR for me, once the consumer version hits. Elite will get a big boost from that as well I think.

Same here. Planning my next PC build based on the Rift having a 4k screen. The next generation Samsung Galaxy Note coming next year is rumoured to have a 5.9" 4k AMOLED screen.

Disable AA for 4K. Will help a lot.

I got no problem here with an i5 4670+GTX980 superclocked and 2560*1440.

Bzzt. At 4k your memory and processor are not going to matter. The limiting factor will always be the GPU.

Interesting. Does that mean I can sell my super expensive i7 Haswell E Extreme cpu and swap it out for a cheapo i3, without a single frame dropped?

If thats the case, Ferrari are hiring for next season... You might be able to save them a ton of money by suggesting that they run a 1.2l Punto engine through the ERS system ;)

A slow CPU will bottleneck the system, as will small amounts of RAM. Identify the obvious points first, then try to problem solve.

Oh my ... reading this thread I feel like such a dinosaur with my 19" 5:4 Samsung at 1280 x 1024. But at least it's more than 60fps on an HD 5770 :D

Both of you are a little bit off. The amount of RAM you have is basically meaningless so long as you have enough to actually run the game. 4K isn't always going to be GPU bottlenecked in multiple-card configurations but it will be a lot of the time. It depends on the type of game also, for example MMOs generally need better CPUs. Elite appears to be more graphically bound than CPU bound however.

So long as you don't do anything really stupid like combine dual 980's with an AMD dual core and 2GB of RAM you'll be alright at 4K.

Pretty much decided I'm not going 4k any time soon however I am planning to dive into a 21:9 3440x1440 monitor with adaptive sync as soon as one exists.

My plan is to jump to 4K in about 5 years, when both the screens and the cards to delivers those many pixels will be commonplace. :)

This.

For now, 1440p monitors are the way to go for high end pc.

When 4k monitors will come up with 120/144hz and suitable graphic cards, this will be the time to switch.

Three or more screens is where it's at. Yes HMD's are cool as are single 4K displays, but three (or more) screens make me feel like I'm in a cockpit.

A 40 inch screen will do that too ;)

I went with 2 970s to have the funds for a much needed MB and CPU upgrade. The latest gen. of GPUs are starting to make CPUs a real bottleneck again.
My 2600K gives me 10% less FPS even when clocked to 4.5 GHz.

I run 4k with a 970 FTW , all settings on max, at 60hz
And seems absolutely fine (about £700)
Looks absolutely beautiful btw, well done FD!

That's what I'm running too, on the sammy 28"'er, only slow down I have found involve being very close up to large asteroids, in heavily populated belts. Everything else is buttery smooth.

I am now running an Acer xb280hk 4k with an Asus 970 OC, and everything works smoothly, highly recommend this set up. Steady 60 fps, in stations can drop to 38fps, aa and blur set to off (not needed), no stuttering at all even in stations, so you wouldn't know that the fps is lower there, this may be because of the G-sync. Altogether as smooth as the gtx770 it replaced.

I run two SLI 770 GTX cards and the frame rate is smooth with the rift on High settings (one card lagged too much for me). It is very immersive!

Thank you very much for he experienced opinion, What sucks right now is my general computer store doesn't stock this card anymore !!! >.< so funny however, they stock the 760 ti, 780ti and al other eVGA Nvidia stuff but NOT the 770...

Congrats on your 4k build?

for me 4K is an immature technology right now. The IQ is exception, but with such a huge penalty in framerate, I just don't think it's worth spending out that kind of cash for 4k. I love my ED rig:
- i7 3770k @ 4.6ghz
- 16gb ram
- 2 - EVGA 780TI-SCs (SLI)
- SSD storage
- Yamakasi Sparta 30" IPS monitor (Xmas gift)
- Saitek pro combat rudders
- Thrustmaster Warthog stick/throttle
- Corsair m65 mouse
- Corsair keyboard
- Titanium HD Sound

I doubt it. OR is a toy with reduced resolution. Not to mention it simply looks with a grown man gaming with that "headcage" on.

Yeah, but the color accuracy of these Acer's is seriously lacking. I'm a pro photog on the side and I need the color accuracy, which is why I like the Yamakasi ips panels.
