new player concerned with community

It's ok I've been here a while now and I have concerns with the community too...
Budum tish, I thank you I'm here all year:D

Seriously this pretty much sums it up -
It's fine here, better than it was.
All you need is a nonsense meter and the ability to say your piece and then leave it.
There are some very helpful people here and genuine questions do receive genuine answers...mostly :)

With the small exception that it was Great on here, but then it got worse, then it got better again and then it got worse once again!
The last few weeks have been getting steadily better now that a lot of the pre-release naysaying has passed.

Stick around, enjoy the game for what it is, and when you visit the forum - remember that this is the internet so keep a pinch of salt handy, and always have your sarcasm and troll detection equipment primed :p

Its a gaming forum, not really any different from any other gaming forum Ive ever seen. In real life you have peacekeepers and firestarters, nice guys and dbags. The only difference here is anonymity has a nasty habit of letting people show their true character, or lack thereof by a multiple of 10. It is what it is, you can accept that and take the good with the bad, or you decide to just forgo the whole thing. Up to you.
Right. I'm pretty big into forums, and have moderated a couple about brewing beer for nearly a decade. As forums go, this one is actually pretty tame. If you're new to the format, just realize that normal standards of civility don't apply. You just have to get your nonsense filter calibrated for the new media.

Anytime a game has limited communication abilities while playing, the social group heads to the forums to discuss. Sometimes the discussion is good or bad. People want various information usually. bug fixes, warzone info, trading, combat, ect. This is the most reliable source at the moment.

But, it reminds me a lot of diablo 3 and thier forums. The game was also instanced. you would get 4 people in a long discussion while playing. max 100 while waiting to play and never the same people twice. Some info would spread in chat, but most people spent about the same time on the forums as playing. Mostly to just find some info to speed up progress.

maybe someday frontier will host an irc server an link it to game chat/external to escape these forums

Just be prepared to have other people's opinions shoved down your throat if you voice your own......plenty of users here believe their point of view is the correct point of view and everything else is wrong.

If you suggest an improvement, be prepared for 99% to outright disagree and call you stupid for even suggesting it.

A jaded point of view, but it comes from experience I'm afraid.....of all the communities I belong to, I find this one the most aggressive

Hi all sorry to ask this, but I only got the game today and I am reading these forums and see a lot of not very nice discussions and even border on abuse some times . Is this generally how things are on here , or is it just a few that are like this . I want to play in a nice community with good people who help each other and not abuse , just because they have a different opinion.?

thank you

Most of the time people that love the game are too busy playing it to bother coming here to post.

Exactly and very true.

Welcome to the Galaxy commander, no its only a minority of people. Hope you are enjoying the game. Let us know if you need any help.

95% of the Commanders are either Killers, enslavers, cupide traders, and cowards who run away (explorers)

no surprise that 95% of threads are bad, but luckily we can evolve, and since we can't go any lower than that well it means that we can only become better right ? :p

Oi! Please do not tar all explorers with the same brush ya tart! I'm an explorer who deliberately gives in to an interdiction to get stuck into a juicy battle to supplement my income. To date I've polished off, and collected the bounties from numerous near-do-wells & scallywags that infest this gorgeous Galaxy of ours and have yet to be beaten!!! :D ;)

This forum is no better or worse than any other game forums i've been part of, and there've been a few.

This is a non-topic imo, sorry.

Is this your first time on the internet? :D

It's decidedly worse than a number of forums I know, but no worse than many others. We do seem to have imported some of the dregs of the EVE forums sadly.

I think it is just anoying to see new players coning in and start complaining about things that the old ones for dealing half a year now and accepted them as part of the game.
"I hate Supercruise", "Why are everyone playing Solo? This has to stop!", "Why Stations are so unforgiving and kill me if i smuggle goods? This has to stop!", "147k cr. for the biggest ship?!?! Stupid Grinding!"
Those are just discussions that have been well discussed.

I can understand that new players are keen to tell their impressions, ideas and dislikes, as they played 2 Hours.
But there are things like Supercruise that you will get used to it, because they are actually good made. It just need a while to understand.
And then having daily threads where people complain about it and explain why and how this have to change are simply annoying to "older" players.
And then Answers might be a bit short of explanations and kind words, just saying "Nope, this is good. You just are clueless."

Its not elitism, its just a different level of progression and experience that may devide the Beta Players from the "Newbies".
Its just like a Teenager is upset about the lies and bad things in the world and have thousend ideas what to do to improve everything
and the 40 Year old is just like "mhm, i know i once was this way too, but you can't change it, leave me alone with this."

And to be honest: I had invested my spare time into the Game not in the Forums very much lately.
After the Wipes, i want to progress and not discuss about things that now eventually not change anymore, because now the game is released.

The forums seem to now be full of goaders. People doing soft trolling by trying to sum up posters into arbitary catagories, or signing up asking extremely stupid questions or trying to present clearly misleading game information such as bugs that are 'meant' to be part of the game. If course the OP is none of the above....

There are also a million posts about the same things (bounties from accidental authority shooting, losing a ship because of no insurance, rants... Ad nauseum). Throughout beta the forums were great but too many lower common denominators for me now.

It's a new game.

There are players who like the level of difficulty and others who don't. As thing progresses there may be a meeting in the middle.

Once you learn to ignore the usual one upmanship and moaning you see in any community, there's plenty good.

People are enjoying the game. People see potential and have their own ideas on top. Logic dictates that anyone unhappy with proceedings can find something better to do... and if they don't, tell them ;)
