Hardware & Technical I got a x55

I've just upgraded from the Thrustmaster T-Flight X to an X-55, and I love it. I got the TFX at first because I didn't know how much I would be using a HOTAS setup, but as it's turned out to be quite a lot, I decided to get the X-55 as it was on offer at the time (£150). The stick on mine is very smooth and I've not even bothered changing from the default green spring as it feels about right for me anyway. My throttles however are pretty tight, even on the least resistance setting, and nowhere near as buttery smooth as the one I had on the TFX, although I'm hoping they loosen up with use. If not, I'll open it up and see if there's anything that can be done to remedy it. Aside from that, it feels like a pretty decent bit of kit, although I do also miss the detente on the throttle of the TFX, however, it is much more accurate in terms of speed at the lower end. For example, on the X-55 I can move forward from 0 to 1, 2, 3 etc. onwards, whereas the TFX was a bit more 'lumpy' (3, 5, 7 etc.). It is nice also to not have to use the keyboard at all while using the X-55 (except possibly for the odd bit of typing).

thanks you've convinced me to try again. kepp your powder dry and your stick lubed :)

Well that is why the quality does concern me. I have had my Warthog for years and have been managing without rudders ( I bought the Saitek Combat Pedals and though look fancy and feel nice, have been unable to stop them from sliding on cement.) However I would love to free up my extra sticks from rudder control for I could use them for other things.

Without a doubt the quality of the Warthog is superb. I would not care to test it but it feels like you could toss it across a room and it would work.

Hello

I justget got a x55 what a POS. the puck were the spring sits sticks with all the springs strengths. the stick just dangles lose. I have lubed the post with some real good gun lube no help. the throttle is so stuff on the loosest setting. I have to hold it with my other hand.

anyone had better luck than me.

I heard CH Products are good but there stick don't yaw rite?

who else make a good H.O.T.S . I WANNA SPEND 200 TO 250. not 400 hundred..

Cheers

I'll happily accept it if you don't want it any more. ;)

I got my x55 a few days ago and i have zero issues with it.
The throttle is somewhat stiff though, it will loosen up with time (already has) but its no biggie since i hardmount my hotas.

Im still messing with the setups, and for plain "feel" it cant compete with the logitech g940 (which is a piece of S in many other regards) but all in all im satisfied with it.

Re the throttle. When mine first arrived it too was very stiff. I whacked it back and froth several times and that loosened it up, Then I tightened it till it was stiff again and did the same. The best I could achieve, was just about acceptable for tension, but not really to my taste.
The killer for me though was the tension on the twist axis, way to heavy for my taste.

It's packed up ready for Ebay.

I've had my X55 since March. My throttle was defective out of the box. I called and spoke to support. I had a new one shipped to me before the broken one even reached them. I find their email response to be slower. Very helpful on the phone.
i love my throttle now. It is the smoothest throttle I have ever used. I've been playing flight sims since the 80's.

I love the stick as well but I had problems with it groaning and sticking. I saw a YouTube video about using Vaseline on the shaft. Wow is all I can say. I tried everything else but the Vaseline did the trick. Smooth as silk now. I absolutely love this HOTAS. I have had CH products which are fine but this just feels great. No doubt a warthog would be fantastic but it's the same price as. GTX 980. I would rather have the card. If you can afford a warthog you can't go wrong except I hate it doesn't have yaw. But for a lot less money you get a great HOTAS that looks and feels great in the X55. It's a big step up from an x52 pro.

Most of the Saitek gear is garbage imo. The only Saitek gear I have are the pro combat pedals and that's only because there's simply nothing else out there in the price range. The sticks are far worse to me; very plasticy and lightweight, feels like I'm gonna break it in half if I roll to sharply.

If you love ED and see yourself putting in alot of hours, there's only 1 choice: Thrustmaster Warthog stick/throttle set.

Always buy from amazon they give a full refund for pretty much any problem.

I returned my x55 twice due to various quality control issues (buttons sticking, loose z axis for yaw). I ordered the tm warthog and absolutely love it. It's completely sturdy and very comfortable. It is quite expensive, especially since you might opt to buy pedals, but I am happy with it.

As an aside, my saitek pro flight pedals died after 1 week of use, so I'm waiting on a replacement from amazon. I heard saitek had massive quality control issues after mad catz bought them, and now I fully believe it.

Haven't had any issues with mine. I did read there were some in the initial launch so I opted for the $25 for 3 year coverage from Amazon. Love the stick though. Couldn't imagine playing without it. Sorry you had so many issues =(

CH - not cheap and not flashy but dead accurate and last forever. Love mine! The combatstick maybe better than the fighterstick for ED- I have both as was lucky to pick up a cheap combatstick on ebay and now use that. The second button is way better placed for use as a secondary fire group.

my visa doubles the warranty on stuff. I had a a/v receiver go bad after 2 years. they bought it back with a criedt to my account

You gotta break those things in like a pair of combat boots. Stiff as heck at the start and then it will start to work better for you. I tossed my x52 in the closet after my first few days and then two months later gave it another shot and stuck to it for a bit and now I have had it for 7 years. I don't know how laying on a bed with a joystick is going to be functional, you need them to be firmly placed as well as room for your arms to move properly, especially the throttle. You're just not going to get the right leverage for that to not feel stiff.

I wish the people that made these. were as smart as the people who can make it fit back the damn box :)

It works great I have the stick velcrowed to a hard big mouse pad, and the mouse pad is glued to a cutting board. same with the throttle
