To me this is still beta

I do agree it feels like a beta more than an actual release. I'm not convinced, however, that it has much to do with Star Citizen. That game's far enough away still that they could've pushed launch back a month or two.

Or even a year , i am not a developer but i tell you that the rep system the conflict zones and the naval missions and missions in general are rushed code for the release.

Braven to the devs team: guys!! we need to launch it now!! just do whatever you can i don’t even care if its the same code copy pasted till the end , just change x for y and where the mission says bring me food , then change it to say bring me gold!
I don’t even care how you finish it but lets give those pigs something to eat and lets dont say anything be mysterious so they think there is hidden content and they will just be looking for ir for months , then maybe if we sell enough we can finish it the way i want it.

EVEN SO THEY SAID this is version 1.03 to me this is still beta i think they just we have no time its running out and people are buy in star citizen i mean they already $66m in funds through its continued crowd funding activities so they said screw it launch it any way and lets go on vacation we come back with a major update in a new year yay. do any of you feel this way like me

NO .. ED works out the box.. BF3/Bf4 when release didn't so that in my opinion, is beta Think of ED as a brand new house , finished but needs all the goodies to make it a nice home. This Game will improve over time.

Think you'll find it the other way round, Star Citizen started it's Kick-starter first, then FD Elite Dangerous a few months latter, I'm guessing Star Citizen backers are buying ED while they wait 3 years for Star Citizen by then hopefully ED will be a different game all polished & shiny with lots of stuff to play with, lets face it at the moment all Star Citizen is at the moment is a shooter and walk around a hanger simulater

What is the point of your thread?

If you mean to say the game is not finished yet, you're right.
This game is a HUGE project that will be in development for years to come.
There are still features that need refinement or implementation.
FD has been very clear about this from the beginning.
Whatever you call it, whatever number or label you give it's current state is hardly important.

The game as is is already a wonderful product of incredible scope and quality, but everybody, even the biggest fan boy, is eagerly awaiting what is to come.

If you cannot handle the nature of a project like this, then you should have better informed yourself before buying into it.

I disagree. It's in alpha state since it's by no means feature complete. Not to mention the various bugs still there such as the docking bugs, weird faction hits from some quests not to mention questionable design of some game mechanics in general and other features such as the lack of important information for certain types of equipment and so on and so forth. The really interesting part though will be how development will be handled now that it's released. Will the for a "finished" product paying crowd now be teased with such buggy versions that we have seen in beta? Or will they finally start to implement a professional development pipeline with a worth to mention internal QA and release management?

Well, it's pretty much become industry standard to build a solid playable framework and then release it unfinished. Production costs these days for video games is through the roof and at some point they have to start making money. Hell even Blizzard with a 2 year dev cycle and all that revenue can't release a finished x-pac.

Anyone that expected a feature complete, bug free release of a product of this scope is being beyond unreasonable. Those are impossible expectations to meet by even the largest of development companies. What Frontier has accomplished with their small team and no publisher is nothing short of spectacular, which of course is why its being universally well received outside of a vocal minority on these forums and of course the jealous SC crowd that is angry they still have nothing more than a glorified Wipeout for their 1000s.

That said, if they leave us high and dry and take the money and run, then Ill be disappointed. I don't think Braben would let that happen, I am confident they will continue to develop and improve upon the amazing foundation they have established, I hope my faith is not unfounded.

I don't know on which Earth you live, but on mine the games released are usually feature complete and don't advertise unimplemented features. There are smaller teams with lower budgets doing 100fold better jobs as FD. Kerbal Space Program for example.

Yes we apparently live on very, very different Earths. Very different.

Im pretty sure that mine is the real one though, because its been a good 20 years since any of that has been true here. Kerbal is a cute game, but cmon...

Beta is usually content complete for the most part. From a feature standpoint, this is closer to an alpha. Group functionality and aliens are not minor additions, they are core functions that are still missing. Only the most basic functions exist currently. It's pretty stable though and it's a good start.

In my opinion, and this is just how I think it, This game will always be in beta format up until about 4 months after game release. The reason I say this is because of past histories of online gaming. I have played more than enough of online games to know once a game is released there are more issues arising due to more people either finding bugs or things which have been over looked due to nobody actually looking for them. If you have 1 pair of eyes looking at a spot on the wall, they see just one spot. It you have 1,000 pairs of eyes then there will be 1,000 spots on the wall where people will be looking.

The more eyes the more things they find. It may sound silly to look at it that way, but basically we are now the eyes and we are testing the game. Once the first 3 months are over most of the bugs and issues will be between 50% and 90% fixed.
I do not know a game which I have personally helped beta test come out without bugs still in it since beta testing, even though they were actually fixed in the beta test.

To all those that put the game down but saying they are going to quit or just leave the game, or even make up a wish list of changes they want implemented into this version of Elite, I say to them wait and see what happens in 3 months. By then we can hold Frontier to account if the game is still unfinished at the point of sale.

Personally the only thing for me that lets this game down is that I do not have a stand alone version of the game which I can play off line. being able to save games on my pc and not need to be online would be great. I do not mean use my save games online, no I would like a stand alone version to play. Then I am happy.

Kerbal was released three years ago and the first/early versions had a very limited feature set, so don't hold them up as feature complete.

Erm, KSP is also not feature complete. Features have been added and are still being added along the way. KSP was a barebones shell 1 year ago.

Elite isnt finished, nobody said it was. What you have is a work in progress. This game is pretty much following the KSP mould, and minecraft, the Forrest and pretty much every other game released these days.

Considering the fact that many features from the DDA are still missing, the game is technically still in alpha.

Right, so, that must have been embarassing... what color is the sky on your magical Earth Doc? Sounds like they have some pretty nice pharmaceuticals there. :p
