What happened to the user protection we were supposed to get??

Not being funny to the OP, but how do you know it was a Beta player?

If it was, then unfortunate as it is, the % of beta players that want to kill players, is the same as the % of the rest of the player base. If you want to truly avoid people like that then your choices are to head away from the general population, go solo or join PvE group Mobius.

Hope you find a solution to avoid them in future.

Try the pve group mate, or go solo. For what seems like your preferred play style I think that would give you the most fun out of the game.

Thank you for your advice. I think I will go Solo for a while then upgrade my ship to include some deterrents before going into the galaxy for real.

I'm not a pacifist so won't be joining that group, I believe in player honour and responsibility... something I thought a game as intelligent as ED would have attracted, and would not have attracted the GTA greifer style crowd... How wrong was I?

Tim,

Hi, I started playing on release day, in open play and have never switched to solo/group. Just got a Cobra. I've been interdicted countless times. Most of the time I can escape or out run, sometimes I die.

I play open because I WANT to be attacked by PLAYERS and NPCs, ED is meant to be fun, remember this isn't a fly on rails trading game, its Elite Dangerous.

Me as a retired teacher... you can't believe how tempting it is to get the red pen out sometimes :)

I knew someone at school who was colour blind, he couldn't see green at all, and we used to laugh our heads off when the french teacher always used to write corrections in red and good comments in green which he couldn't see :)

Of course he thought he was terrible at French lol :)

~I agree 100%

But that doesn't mean bullies should be tolerated.

Do you agree that experienced players should beat up on the newbies then?

Tim, in every MMO you will encounter players who like to kill other players , just for fun (though I can't see what's the fun in that but maybe I am too dumb to understand them :p
-Every- game which has PvP in it attracts those sad types, if you play in open mode you just have to learn to accept it as an inconvenience. But trust me, it doesn't happen that much in ED.

And to prevent any frowning, I am not pointing at players who play a pirate role trying to steal your cargo because that is gameplay as intended in open mode.

I know you are right... was surprised to see it in ED... I was expecting a more mature gamer would be playing it....

I agree if it is a legit piracy battle then o.k.... but we are talking about griefers here. i don't want to come across as a whining sado who can't take a punch... just get very annoyed when players obviously are not in it to play the game, just to annoy others... why? because they can.

Sad state of affairs....

Anyway, I'm all good I'm going to beef up then next time someone wants to try and take me out for the sheer hell of it.. I'll have a few surprises for them.

The same people that didn't wipe at release, are the same people that abused the rares to make 100s of millions of credits, are the same people that say its easy to make money, are the same people that say they aren't bothered about flying big ships, are the same people that are now pirates, are the same people that say go in solo mode and lose your chance to win in the elite competition if you don't like what they are doing, are the same people that will say your just crying.

I'll happily give you some quiet trade routes if you want them, chuck me a pm if you want.

And you know this how??
I didn't wipe at release, I've never traded rares in any way shape or form, and you bet!- I don't care about flying big ships- just my cobra with 40t cargo space and nifty weaponry to fend off all the MILLIONS of griefers people keep saying are out there.

I've been playing since the last gamma wipe, still can't afford an Asp. And in all that time, have never been interdicted by a human player once, let alone griefed, and that is with constant Open play (except for the last few days out beyond civilization as I wanted high res screen shots). There are folks who have come in since release who are in bigger, badder ships than me, so I don't see this as an issue related to whether there was a wipe or not. Also not sure it is that much of a problem, if I have never been interdicted once - how and where you play must factor in to how likely that is to happen, so can be controlled in more ways than just going solo.

Though solo is a good option for that, and that's what it's there for! I think it is a great addition, and those that want it should be happy to use it (and not be looked down on or criticized by others - we all are free to play our own way, which is how it should be.)

Not in the entire history of the human race have we ever...ever played nice. Sorry OP but this is
working as intended and should never be changed.

So you condone players with big ships taking out newbies for fun then?

If a player has managed to earn a big ship (via what ever method) then they have the right to play this "game" anyway they want.
They will incur bounties and expenses in doing it, but that's their choice.

Please lets not confuse RL with a game.

PS: I've seen more bullying and griefing in this forum than I have in the game.

Definitely a good lol... I taught German and French! But it was always a red pen so it stood out from the blue and black the kids used.

O.k.

I think we have a problem....

The players that bought their way into the beta who have clearly not reset their save files are preying on the new comers that just got into the game from release.

I read that there was going to be some kind of system that meant that if this kind of behaviour was happening there would be some kind of penalty imposed on said player.

I just got interdicted... but what happened was not normal. It was like a double interdiction.... I'm normally really good at winning an evade as I have a good flight stick and know how to use it... but this was different... not only did I have to fight to stay in the exit trajectory but the whole screen blurred up and shook... in effect there was no chance... I'm assuming here that this is the result of the very high end interdicter. On loosing the interdict I had misiles and beam lasers all over me... obviously not the result of a new player.

I had very little cargo and I am not wanted, I have no bounty! So this player was just being an pain for the sake of it.

If this is the way it is going to be all the different things you can do in Elite will amount to nothing as we will all just have to arm ourselves to the teeth to fend off these infantile players!

CMDR NeoN HaZe

Well you are kind of fortunate.... i've been wandering around for a couple of weeks now wonder just why there is so little player interaction.
They were not very sporting attacking you for no cargo or Bounty though.... I've not heard of that happening in Elite before, perhaps you just got unlucky...

Most pirates are only attacking those who do not stop and drop some cargo, and bounty hunters are simply not interested in attacking those with no bounty

I feel your pain, man. People that prey on newbs suck. Unfortunately there's no way that I know of to keep playing in Open and block a particular player who does that kind of thing-- the "block" option only appears next to people already in your friends list, and in any case only stops comms from them from what I gather.

The best advice I can give is play solo/private group (like Mobius, a large PvE group) till you're no longer in a Sidey or Hauler, and have got your space legs. Either that or keep a very very close watch on the scanner for any hollow icon even remotely behind you, and warp away to another system ASAP if you keep playing in Open.

Bit of a sweeping statement isn't it?

I am a premium beta kickstarter. I didn't know anything about the rarest thing, I only have 80k saved up after trading and exploring and am not a pirate.

Less sweeping and inflammatory thinking should probably be applied

Same here. Not all beta backers made billions and some of us are actually nice people too. I have never attacked another player that A) didn't attack me first or B) wasn't wanted or C) wasn't attacking a defenceless player.

Solo mode is you friend until you learn the ropes. Rather than being limited to some newbie location, you have the Entire Universe to learn in. If you jump into the water there will always be sharks, you will need to know when to fight o run and the best way of doing both.

O.k. I think we have a problem....
Incorrect, there isn't much thought being applied.

The players that bought their way into the beta who have clearly not reset their save files are preying on the new comers that just got into the game from release.
There's a nice divisive statement. You made all beta players sound like nefarious griefers. I assure you - as have many others - that this is not the case. Why? Apply some logic.

I read that there was going to be some kind of system that meant that if this kind of behaviour was happening there would be some kind of penalty imposed on said player.
Please be more descriptive, nebulous sounding solutions result in nebulous sounding conclusions.

Assumption based, no evidence. No screenshots. Hearsay.
