Baron

Peasants.

Bow low when an Earl walks past :)

In all seriousness the ranks weren't that hard. IMO if you're stuck and not receiving further rank missions, leave that area and try another Empire dock in another system. I found this out and got the last 2-3 ranks in quick succession .

Yeh - same here. I guess part of the code behind the missions looks at being at least friendly with X sub factions. So spreading out is the key for fast progression in ranks. One day I think I had 3-4 of them in Empire. Then for the last week I've stuck to 1-2 systems and not until yesterday did I get the next rank mission.

Hm,
as a Baron myself, I am now allied with the Empire and hence all its minor factions. Becoming allied with the major faction seems to be easier by staying in one area (Allied minors pushing major reputation better?).
I have not seen further rank missions for some time even with traveling around.

Therefore, there should be other factors at work than just local reputation.

I think it's weird that your faction standing is independent of your title. It feels counterintuitive but I suppose it's not that uncommon.

I'm friendly with the empire (mainly due to trading) however I'm a Knight.

Regardless of that, congratulations Baron(ess) :)

Yep like I said in my post, I hit that roadblock too... so i just branched out into other unkown Empire systems and hey presto, got the last 2-3 ranks in quick succession.

Did you get that by doing naval quests alone? For me, naval quests very rarely come up, and they always ask me to go and get supplies that don't exist in my neck-of-the-woods, or anywhere I know near it. For example, I was once asked to source personal weapons, after some searching on the map I found a station that listed personal weapons as legal and in its main exports... Except when I got there, the commodity was not even on that station's list, let alone out-of-supply. For however many hours the mission afforded, was a few but I can't precisely remember how many, I flew around looking to find them... But no joy! Mission failure with a small rep decrease! So, I thought, I'll do loads of missions for the Empire and see what happens... Well, what happened was that I became allied with the Empire and every faction that flies its banner, but still no rank advance! Help!

I just found a potential bug/design feature?

Because I am allied with the Empire, all minor factions are reputations are shown allied. However, in mission summaries, they are shown as neutral. Also, I cannot take high ranking missions from them.
Hence, the allied status with all minor factions might only be for some limited benefits (greetings, fuel costs?). But there is still potential to increase local reputation as it is apparently fake allied, not real allied.

I will try to improve my standing with them and see, if a rank mission pops up.

OP, congrats on making Baroness.

When they made me one I changed my name to Harkonnen. Ditched it one day later when I got field promoted to Viscount for delivering a message. The earlier progressions involving assassinations made you feel like you earned it but delivery boy makes Viscount? Come on.

Not a bug. As you've discovered the mission summaries show your reputation that is specific to the minor faction while the status page shows the "effective" reputation with the minor faction (which includes your major faction reputation). So if you are neutral with a minor faction and friendly with the major faction then the mission page will show neutral and the status page will show friendly. The minor faction will treat you as friendly to some degree though I suspect not as much as if they are friendly themselves. You can continue to improve the minor faction reputation.

Oh, and congrats OP. Welcome to the club (Viscount RedWizzard here).

Incidentally I spent 4 hours in a conflict zone at Buricasses and didn't saw another player. Why aren't you lot defending the Empire???
