Is it as good as the orignal?

Absolutely!
A a replacement for my Xrebirth, ! well that is a terrible game, Yes it is terrible and as to my Eve on line game that i have been playing for 7 years, and got nowhere, whot can i say in its favor it is down to requesting help and being ignored and being offered tutorial combat missions where you can not complete the mission because your armaments are not up to the job and you get destroyed.

ED is an amazing game, how easy this game is at and getting involved in and its better and easier than Eve on line and xrebirth needs to go back to the drawing board

It is the same game like in 1984 but then with better grafix and controls but it really needs to be lifted to 2015 gameplay and content wise. But then again i love every moment of it. And i am sure they have a firm base to build and expand the game with. It needs some bug fixing but the holidays are almost over and i am sure patches will roll out again.

If by as good you mean that it's pushing everything we thought could be done with gaming, doing amazing things with seemingly minute resources, is just mind blowing and awe inspiring realizing just what can be done with computer gaming... sadly no.

If by as good you mean it's essentially the same generic space trading game as every other space trading game since, then yep, it's as good.

....... no!

Been waiting for this for ages but as the title says. Is it as good as the orignal?

Older gamers that played the original love this version. It really is Elite frontier updates to 2014. New gamers who want all the bells and whistles ( that we will see further down the road), not so much ;)

Better than the original in many ways but it's all a bit too easy.

No Thargoids pulling you out of Hyperspace and the anarchy systems offer no challenge at all.

In the original, the anarchies were horrible places. I recall brutal dogfights with half a dozen pirates descending on me simultaneously. Now I cruise through Reidquat with rarely an interdiction. Even then it's only one pirate and he's usually harmless. I need some dangerous in my Elite Dangerous.

Oh and the Asp now looks like crap.

Graphically it's a stunner. Gameplay, not so much. In terms of what it offers it's more Elite 1.5, pitching somewhere between Elite and Frontier. There's nothing really new or substantially improved on gameplay wise aside from a reputation system that the jury's still not sure works in any significant way. Missions are generic no matter where you go. Is it enjoyable, yes, but it has very little depth past basic combat and trading. I was expecting that the gameplay would have been evolved in the same way the graphics and sound (which is staggeringly good in places and never less than very good) have been, but it's not the case. I couldn't wait to see what game FD would create from the resources modern systems have, but in the end they just stuck with what worked a few decades ago.

Personally I find that a bit disappointing.

it is comparable, althought you might get stuck out of the game for a couple of days because of server issues and it lost several features since Frontier and Frontier First Encounters.

In my opinion very definitely yes.

Just be prepared for some glitches and bugs here and there, and you should be fine.

Glitches? what Glitches?.. there no glitches here

:p

but to be serious, overall the game has been rather smooth since it launched (one of the best launches i been part off personally) and even in its current shame and state i have to go with a Yes answer. again, this is subjective and my point of view on this. and the best thing to me about it is, it will get better as more stuff is added trough updates and later DLC.

In fact for a server based game that clearly was well known I expected it to be more like a AAA game deployment where the servers break pretty much on day one. Really very smooth all things considered.

In fact I was playing Elite while consolers where not able to connect to their games
