If ED doesn't win an award for sound design...

...the games industry can kiss my Asp ! :D

Seriously, I've not come across a game for a while that's paid so much attention to little details; the whispers in hyperspace, the creaking when you boost the engines, groaning under the strain of a fuel scoop, multicannon bullets off the hull. I've stopped listening through speakers (I have a cinema 7.1 set up) and use headphones now just to detect something else.

Really hope this game wins genuine awards for what its achieved, not just decent reviews.

Park outside a station, turn every module off and turn up the volume. Now do it well away from a station. Next do it near a star :D

The sound (and music) in this game are second to none.

The sound design in this game is by far the best I've ever encountered and I'm, like many of you as well, a complete gameaholic. I really wish we as a community could come together to that the sound design team in some way. It's really that good.

go to a nav beacon and listen to it. If you understand morse code you'll know what i mean.
Or the voyager probes. It is awesome.

The sound the ASP's engine makes is incredible. I get shivers from it. I've got real good speakers too, Yamaha HS-80M monitors. I crank them way up sometimes, and it's almost orgasmic. The ASP sounds like this amazing four engined prop aeroplane but in space. Love it.

I agree with all of you, the sound design is the best I have ever heard in any game, hands down and by a huge margin. My two favourite ships in the game are favourites precisely because of their stunning sounds: The Hauler with its eerie, haunting noises, and the Asp with its zeppelin strapped to its back. Sometimes I just drop out of supercruise, decelerate, accelerate, turn, yaw, pitch, all at once, one after the other, just to hear the different sounds it makes. And it DOES make different sounds depending on what you do. That, my friends, is true attention to detail. :)

While I agree it's fantastic, that award would have to go to Alien Isolation. That seriously does things with sound no game has ever done.
I'll give ED second place though :D

The sound of glass cracking as you force another interdiction and see the cracks spreading across your canopy.

Music too? Really?

Don't get me wrong, the sound in this game is fantastic but the music is... not so fantastic?

This, and the muffled sound of your coms / weapons (i know...) when your canopy break.

The sound of the sun. I don't care if it's realistic or not, it make you feel like you're not near a regular space object.

Elite have many flaws, but the sounds kick ass.

An award for sound design? I would agree with this except for one little itty bitty thing. You can hardly hear the "ships voice". The ships voice volume slider does diddly squat. This has been ticketed several times with no response from holiday support.
Until holiday support can implement a volume slider that works, no award is warranted.

Funny... works for everyone else...

The game's sounds in general are really low for some players, including me. But an easy workaround is increasing sound volume greatly in Windows and just lower it again after exiting the game. This way you don't blow your ears out when Windows or a different application makes a sound. :)

If I had to found one flaw in the sound design, it would be the engine's sound while in SC. I mean, you're going faster than light and it sounds like a goat is stuck in your FSD...
