The Paint Job Prices, Pretty Hefty Yeah?

I think any price is fine - if someone wants them, and thinks it's worth it, they buy them. If they don't want cosmetics, or think the cosmetics are overpriced, they don't buy them (and their gameplay suffers not a jot.) I think Ferrari's are crazily expensive, but I'd sure buy one if it cost as much as my Toyota! And yet, others still wouldn't buy one, because of gas mileage, practicality, etc.

The point being, at any price, there are some who think what they get is worth it, some who think it isn't worth it. With no-one forcing you to buy, and it making not one iota of difference to someone's ability in game, what does it matter?

They're not too steep, but still a waste of money. I'd be willing to pay for some kind of tool that allowed me customize my ship's skin. I don't have much interest in being the 50,000th person to purchase a particular skin.

The problem with the paint job(IMO) is that I will never buy it until it is not possible to have the external view of your own spaceship in flight.

I hope it goes the steam workshop/Dota route of letting the community design and release skins and decals.
I'll be instabuying Empire eagle decals when they become available :)

I think they will have more "Sales" and if they sell more skins at lower prices they might rebalance the pricing.
I think the normal customers are not willing to spend that much like the backers did. So it would be better to have more skins.
For less money each. I think 1-2 € for a normal skin (or decal) and maybe 4-6€ for a special one should be fine.
But i really hope there will be skins and decals to get in game too, as for different factions, navy ranks or Elite Status Decals and such.
But i fear the tempt to make money with it is to great.

I suspect there won't be user-designed skins, except maybe custom colors in standard patters, because the client needs every skin available in order to be able to render other ships no matter what skin they have -- and I very much doubt they're going to start transferring skins on demand to clients.

So am I the only person who thinks that the paints/skins on the website store are a bit steep for what they are? I mean... $3+ dollars for the very cheapest paint you can get for one single ship is pretty bad, and that's just the cheapest. The Viper has a Gold paint, one single paint for one single ship for over 17 dollars.

Seriously? If I work for less than 1 hour I make more than the cost of a gold viper paintjob. You're upset that it costs one hour's labour? If you REALLY want a gold viper but you can't afford a one-off $17 for a paintjob then you probably should stop playing computer games and get a job.

I agree they are expensive, but they are really intended as a thank-you for those who want to donate some money to FD for server upkeep and so-on. You don't need them.
Better than credits for cash or other pay-to-win.

Short answer: No.
Long answer: They are dirt cheap and they look nifty - I hope they make more in the future.
Simple solution, you don't like 'em, don't buy 'em. Problem solved.

And by any luck, lower the price of the paints and it'll encourage more people to buy them. With the encouragement you have more people purchasing them, and with that it will allow the funding to create more paints to sell.

Lower price will encourage more purchases, I bought a nice selection in the sale. But the DLC and 'micro'? transactions are in place of a subscription...so those who buy paint jobs are subsidising those who do not...a win-win situation in my book.

With external views I will take another look at the skins on offer....All DLC expansions I already intend to buy.

So... this is where the real problem no one will ever admit comes into play. Yeah lets say you spend 18 dollars for the 6 skins for a Viper - BUT - the only person who will Ever see it is yourself and ONLY when you go to outfit your ship.

Take Planetside 2 as an example : it has exactly the same sort of aesthetic item cash shop...it's an FPS so you never see yourself, but you can buy armor and decals...the prices are pretty similar too.
Loads of other FPS games do the same and it works. I think the cash shop model is sound, it's just a shame that it is rather empty at the moment.

It's not really the cost of skins that bothers me, it's the inability for players to create their own. I had some epic custom skins in IL2 and Rise of Flight made by some really talented artists and I think it would just be a better Galaxy if FD could let the same thing happen in the game.

Prices are fine. Got a nice orange paint job for my Viper that was £2. Similar prices to other games. Of course, the more exclusive the paint job (like the gold viper), the more you pay.
