Elite Dangerous : Money Grinding and number crunching.

The best money i can make is ~Cr2450/Ton in a 17LY round strip (2 stars) in ~11 mins (~270k)
Bounties for AI / anaconda's are pitiful @ 150k and takes ~30 mins.

Is there a more efficient way of making money that i'm not aware of ?

I own total assets of 16.6m Cr. (ASP/Viper + Money) If i go for a Type 7, i will need a ton of money ;

  • I need money for ship insurance (1m)
  • Upgrades will cost a fortune (The A4 FSD is 5m on the ASP alone!)
  • I need 3m Cr for supplies to trade after the purchase.

Estimated 16m credits once i've bought the ship, or 11hrs of non stop back and forth money griding - i'd rather watch paint dry.

I cannot think of any other way of making money faster than i am.

HELP!

11 hours?
Is that it?
Wow.
You might not be ready for the long haul then. Possibly something with short-term appeal might be better for you.

I asume you had an Type 6 before, if so, you should have kept it till you got the money for the Type 7 and then its only a few days till you have a fully A graded Asp. Atleast it was like that for me.
Type 6/7 are work horses and everything else is there for fun.

Commander Dave.

Unless you can help, do one! - my question is about improving profits.

I've been making anywhere between 15-20K/ton recently. Only done a couple of runs, made 3 million. Rare commodities, anyone?

Or you can forget about mindless grinding and kit out a Viper/Cobra and go have some fun.

Sorry, this is not one of those threads?

This has been discussed to death and the official word from mr brookes is that profits are fine as is for now (thats why they nerfed rares 2 times in a row)

Boy, I weep for this guy. 270k in 11min? I'm doing a run between two stars right now and pulling 60-80k per round trip, and that takes about 11min or so. Poor thing! I would -love- to have that kind of margin on my time.

He seems to have the attention span of a gnat. He gave up mining after under a day of getting to a pristine reserve system. :b~~~~

You're already making as much money as you can reasonably expect to make. My heart bleeds for you that you can't make more.

Best I've seen is 2700/ton two system round trip (208 cargo yields 560k) but after multiple runs that can drop to 2400 (500k). Thus I mix it up with multiple systems to keep the profits positive.

Mining is very poor for making money irrespective of Metallic pristine rings for palladium and platinum. This i discovered yesterday, thanks to you :)

I can PM you the location of the 2 stars all you need is a laden jump capability of 17.6LY.

So... Trading is the most efficient way of making money - and 270k / 11 mins is 'up there' in terms of best returns.

Thanks for the offer. I don't have that jump range...yet, anyway. 13.67LY or so at the moment, laden. Actually, I wonder if that -has- to be one jump, or if you can do a couple jumps between them. Chaining jumps is fast enough.

Better question than, "Where are the stars," is this... "How did you find the systems?" Unlike EVE, there's not any remote system market viewing ability. So how are you finding such runs?

Mining... I used to mine in EVE. I'm partial to it... Although, trade does seem to be better. But I got into trade to break the monotony of mining. I will probably go back to mining to break the monotony of trade. Or I'll grab an Eagle and try serious pirate hunting. Might not even need the Eagle, since I have a Cobra outfitted for combat.

I just did a bounty hunting + loot run. I made 270k in bounty, but only 75k can be cashed right away, and 11k of that went to refuel and reammo - no damage taken. Another 38k from selling the stolen cargo of my victims.

Took duration of run: 1 hour and 10 minutes. So that is 3.7k per minute earned. This guy here earns 24k per minute. Putting it into percentages, I make 15% of what he makes. While in a 10 million Asp - probably about what he is using as well.

Just saying.

Let's look at other ways of making money;

  • Mining - Stagnant, laborious and tedious. 'Catch the item, process it, Catch the item, process it , Catch the item, process it , Catch the item, process it ... 1 Palladium bar! W000t! that only took me 5 mins! for 19k profit - no thanks!
  • Delivery/Courier jobs - horrific profits
  • Pirate - Stealing an NPC's cargo and selling it - horrific profits and wanted 'fines'
  • Bounty Hunting - 100k / 20 mins - No thank you!
  • High Value bounty hunting - 150k , enter USS's - for 10 mins then find the guy - 20 mins in total - poor profits.
  • Hunting high value players - Good luck finding them in the billion's of star systems.

Based on my calcs 270k/11 mins it would take me 25 days @ 4hrs per day (i work) of non stop back and forth mundane trading to buy the STOC anaconda.

I categorically disagree with Mr Brookes.

Yes it can be done in ~4 jumps in with your FSD or 1 if your FSD is 18LY like i said.

Look for 'high tech' 'high demand' stations for palladium then search 'refinery' stars <20LY from this place who have a high supply of palladium. Job done. For the return trip, just work out what commodities are needed at the high tech station.

You don't need the stock Anaconda.
Some people will grind that cash in a short period.
Some people will earn that cash in a long period and get it months from now.
If you're not one of the people who's prepared to put in the effort to get an Anaconda, you don't get an Anaconda... and you can still do everything in the game.
Just get a different ship and take that grind time off to keep an eye on some wet paint.

bigger ships bigger money its that simple mate....i make 3.2 mil an hour leisurely...or 4.8mil an hour frenetically

it takes a l9 to money for the boated conda.......its not ABOUT WINNING ...SIMPLY WANT A CONDA

Dude, dont try to "improve your profits" any more! If you keep grinding like that, you will have every ship and you will hate the game for the "grind", before the end of march! Stop trying to "win" the Elite, you will hurt yourself. Go have fun.

The only part of the game i enjoy (currently) is 'Shooting' other ships - but with the profits being so low in comparison to the mundane trading i'm mixing it up between the two to keep my sanity :)

Tell me about it! :)

Once people get the 'Conda' what else is there to achieve ? hopefully new content will address the lack of, but i'm not here trying to have a dig at the dev's i know its coming. I just want to know if there's any better way of making money than i currently do and, it seems not, unfortunately!

How are you making 3.2/4.8 - which ship ?

If it's the Type 9 @ Max Cargo (532) that's 6,384,000 Cr every 55 mins on what i'm doing.

Then this game is not for you. 25 days at 4 hours a day to get the current best ship in the game = 100 total hours. That to me is fine, and more on the fast side as it can be done much quicker with a bigger ship and more cargo capacity. In my opinion it should take at least ~100 hours to get the best ship as stock and about 3-4x as long to get the best you can and even then that would be fast. You need to play more games that are made for the long term like monster hunter.
