Roadmap after release

Any communication would be better than the occasional and often curt/vague comments in random threads and the overly marketing focussed newsletters we are getting at the moment.

My top 6 key areas where Id love to know more about FDEV´s plans for this year:

- Missing DDA Exploration mechanics
- Missing DDA Mining mechanics
- Squadron mechanics latest (following Sandro Sammarco great posts in December)
- Update on peer to peer connectivity issues. Yes, there are still friends not managing to meet out there, or seeing ships that others cant see.
- Plans for further development of Mission mechanics and content? Where are the famous "escort El Presidente" type missions mentioned by DB in so many occasions? Any chance for missions that can be manned in both sides by players?
- Plans for further development of faction influence and reputation mechanics

Planetary landing, atmospheric flight and FPS expansions can wait.

No deadlines, just roadmap what they want to do and what they are working on now (but more precised than on YT imaginary land). Nothing more.

Frontier, if you release a roadmap expect all hell to break loose anytime any of those things take longer than expected. don't do it

Not a roadmap. As a few already said, a lot of people will see that as a promise, and that will always result in disappointment.
What I do wonder is, what are they working on right now.
Maybe include that in the weekly newsletter.
Just one thing at a time.
That can give both FD and the players some peace of mind.

Be patient. The game is hardly out three weeks and they still have to work out quite a couple of kinks even at the current state. They will come forth and tell what's up next in due time. Actually, a few things have already been mentioned on various occasions with a rough timescale. Coming roughly in this order:

  1. Wings
  2. Mac version
  3. 15 more ships
  4. "Leaving your seat" aka first-person walking, maybe shooting
  5. Planetary landings

Well, a roadmap might be expecting too much, same goes with the sort of patching scramble as just before release

Still, just about everybody here would very much like to know what's up next? What new ship might be coming? What's to be done about the many, evident bugs?
Keep moving to stay big. Without periodic additions and fixes, whatever good press the game managed to gather will become quite the opposite in short order.

Release date targets are unnecessary, but I'd like to know what features they plan to add to the main game and in DLCs, and in which order. Just knowing what to expect next would be cool ; will we first walk inside stations, or fly above planet surfaces? What do you plan to add to the main game apart from new ships? Wings, FSD slaving, more NPC interactions...?

My sentiments exactly Adept!

Allow me to quote what a wrote on Twitter earlier...

@elanstreaming: FD built foundations for a house and started filling it. Only the carpet arrived on release. Is the truck of furniture on the way?

Features missing on release need to be fairly rapidly implemented: 15 more ships, wings etc...

I wish people could differentiate between release features and expansions. EVA and planetary landings I wouldn't expect for a long long time.

Do we really need a new thread about this every couple of days?

I think that due to the reaction to dropping offline we can't have nice things like roadmaps. Actually it's not even the offline reaction - that was understandable - it's the petulance and refund demands for every minor issue or missing piece of functionality that seems to be common behaviour since then. There is no benefit to FD in showing us a roadmap, only risk.

In one of the threadnaughts before Christmas Sandro was valiantly fighting a single-handed rearguard action - on the topic of wings I think it was - he said in there in response to someone something along the lines of a roadmap not being planned for release as far as he was aware.

After the fiasco with Offline? You really think that they are going to go: 'Hey, here's a good idea... let's publish a roadmap!" *passes out the snorkels*

I think we've shown why we can't have nice things (like road maps).

Quite apart from the offline fiasco, remember what happened when they announced that drive slaving was being shelved? The devs put out (ok over several posts) a good set of reasons why it was being shelved which basically boiled down to "when we looked at it again, we decided it wasn't the way we wanted to go, so we came up with a set of features we think will be better" and still people lost their rag.

A roadmap would be nice though

Unfortunately a published roadmap would be seen as nothing less than a contractual obligation by the more vocal here - as such, publishing it would be an act of insanity by Frontier.

+1 I totally agree. Previous experience shows that Frontier are damned if they do and damned if they don't. The only difference is, if they say nothing, there are no "broken promises" or "missing content" to fuel the fires of flaming.

I prefer to wait until content appears and judge it on it's own merits.

There's still plenty to add to the game, especially on the multi-player aspect of game-play, but I will just wait and see. If you cast your minds back to the jumps in content and functionality between the BETAs (1, 2 & 3) and the GAMMA, I expect we'll see lots of new stuff in the first update of 2015.

We just won't know what it is, until after it arrives.

It would be nice, but sadly in this day and age, it also would attract everything that feeds the professionally outraged... Thus i doubt we will get much advance info until the devs are happy that something works, Then of course "there will be uproar" as it is bound to divide opinions, and despite all its development still, once introduced into the wild break is bound to something "there will be uproar".

Yes this is why we cant have nice things...

I didn't mean giving firm dates or anything. I meant plans. We have a lot of great stuff from the dev diaries and the Design Discussion archives, but very little has been heard for the last six months or so. I realise the devs have been very busy, but surely everybody over at Frontier knows that the current gameplay mechanics are largely placeholders, and the audience needs to know they are work in progress.

The artificial feeling, random signal sources need to go. The systems need to be dynamic and alive in reality, not as an illusion which doesn't match the rest of the gameplay. The consequences of criminality are largely not there, and the nature and role of the Pilots Federation needs to be fleshed out _in_game_, not just in the minds of those who actively dig up the lore outside the client.

Making the universe seem alive is even more important than Wing mechanics. If the world feels sterile and abstract, co-op alone will not fix that.

Roadmaps have a tendency to bite developers in the backside. Best just to know what they plan on, and what's currently in the works.

A roadmap would be nice to see what they are planning however it may spoil a few surprises, like the Capital ship battle at the ED event they held back in November. If you like the game just play it, there's not need to go on strike until they release one as it's only you that's missing out. The game as it is is good enough for years, extra DLC is just an added bonus to make it better.
