Should Frontier revise the 'Kill Stealing' fix?

Should Frontier revise the 'Kill Stealing' fix?

A while back, Frontier added a fix to stop NPC's kill stealing your bounties.

After seeing that someone has managed to get to 'Elite' status by taking advantage of this fix, I'm genuinely interested to see what the community now thinks of it.

The Elite CMDR thread is here:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=92423

I personally prefer a 'most damage wins' based approach, with additional points added for CMDR's that started attacking the target first. It's fairer, and ensures that CMDR's can't arbitrarily paint targets en-masse.

Ultimately, I think we should gain a percentage of the bounty, based on damage caused. I certainly don't expect to gain a kill credit for partially damaging a target, but I would expect to gain it if I did the lion's share of the work.

Please share your thoughts on this matter below.

PLEASE NOTE: This is in no way knocking what the Elite CMDR has achieved - he's accomplished Elite status within the parameters of the game, and without taking advantage of the much publicised currency exploits. I simply want to raise a discussion around the Kill Stealing fix, which I think needs more work.

It needs to go back to last shots takes it.
Sharing a bounty is just as silly and immersion breaking as the current mechanic.

I would be happy if it was pre fix, but with the exception that if you were actively shooting at a target at the same time as an NPC it gave he player the credit, even if theirs wasn't the actual killing shot. It is rather immersion breaking to see a kill happen and get the credit when you weren't even facing the target.

Food for thought:

If two human players compete for the same kill, for example on a USS instance for a kill mission, the last shot gets the bounty.

Lost a couple mission targets like this.

Nope, I'm happy with the current state. It is hard enough making a living at bounty hunting without an npc sindwinder stealing a fat bounty Anaconda I've been pounding away at for the last few minutes, burning through my MC ammo. Although for the sake of realism some could argue that this should be the case, such a change would mean that FD would have to up bounty amounts again to compensate for this.

I really didn't have a problem with getting bounties stolen, so i'm definitely for the original version, I've been playing a good chunk of hours every day since release and I've only had the cops even shooting my target a handful of times, and i'm fairly sure my accurate 6x multis are going to get the kill over their dumb as dirt bad aim laser pewpew AI

If FD kep changing the mechanic in response to this forum no one will know what applies. Was fine before and is workable now. Please no more knee jerk fixes.

There is no definite mechanic.

Even a "tag" mechanic can be gamed but given your example it would be a mechanic that would work for you.

For me, well, first we had was good, last shot gets the kill. Personally never affected my style that much even when fighting Wanted big ships in extraction spots.
And sometimes the ammo cost was quite high having lost the kill... but what the hell, it is games rules.

So Player A comes in takes the shields down from 100% to nothing, then the hull from 100% to 51%. Then Player B comes in and takes the remaining 51% hull and gets the bounty? Yes? No thanks.
i'd prefer that to losing a bounty after doing 90% hull damage and getting caught short on a reload

I was a tad frustrated that they caved into the complainers on the forum.

But what can you do... just gotto deal with it I guess. If they make the game easier and easier and easier, then so be it.
No point dwelling and creating a ton of new threads on it.

I liked the dilemma the original left you with.... turn off report crimes = less kill stealing but attackers are not wanted for firing on you. Now its a no-brainer - leave it on. Bounty awarded by amount of damage inflicted seems a decent compromise

The bounty is for the kill so the killing shot takes it, it is meant to be a hostile environment so lets make it so and while we are at it can we make authority vipers and eagles actually scary. At the moment if you hit one during a chase you can almost always carry on and finish the kill without really worrying about them.

Don't mind it - I seem to win more than I loose (beam lasers are cool). I stole an Anaconda kill myself last night!

They should rework it, right now you can just exploit it to no end. 10 seconds after your last shot on the target still gives you the kill. Thats far to long and is easy grabbing and "stealing" from NPCs.

Before the patch if i wanted that juicy anaconda bounty and wasnt able to fight for it alone. I had to rely on NPC ships to attack and widdle it down while i take shots at the generator for a sure kill. I had to actively TRY to steal that.

With the 10 seconds i just wait until its near 2% or lower and shoot only ONES and still get the kill aslong it is in that timewindow.

It makes the entire bounty hunting not as satisfying as it was before atleast for me.

My suggestion.
Atleast couple it on the faction reputation you have. If a ship from a faction kills the ship you was actively trying to kill.

If you are Neutral or worse, you lost your kill because you was to slow.
If you are friendly, you get 25% of the bounty as a friendly compensation for your help keeping the law.
If you are allied ,you get 50% of the bounty as a friendly compensation for your help keeping the law.

If the killstealer is a bounty hunter npcs you dont get your compensation.

IF you do get the kill you get full bounty as before.

This changes i think would be "fair" and until we get a way to communicate to NPCs in order to offer help/apologies/temporary banding together ect it would be work around.

So a funny thing seems to be happening - votes indicate that the majority would like it to stay in place, but comments seem to lean towards tweaking it or removing it completely.

Come on you 'No' voters - I'd like to hear what your thoughts are too.
If you don't have your say, all of us 'Yes' voters will think it's because you wan't an easy ride, standing on the shoulders of giants to make yourself look better :)
