I've Achieved My Goal of Owning Every Ship

Well. One of every ship. I'm not claiming to own your ship, dear reader. That wouldn't go over very well.

I've just purchased the last of all 15 ships currently available in-game, and tucked them away in my character's home system of Cismontani. Next goal: continue on to elite in trading, as to have the money to buy more ships when new ones come out!

Nice work! Quite the collection... I haven't found a good place to call home yet so I keep myself mobile.

oh, and in before all the "lolzexploitz" posters.

Cismontani is a terrible place to call home. It's one of the most frontier of frontier worlds, terraforming a planet more inhospitable than Venus. But I say my character was born there, so I've decided to take that little corner of space as my own.

I dig it. I almost took a crappy old pirate base named Freeport as my HQ (since I'm a pirate and I love Everquest) but it's SUCH a crappy station I just couldn't bear it, lol.

I actually have Freeport as my home. Mainly out of sentimental value as I killed so many players in that system during beta 1.

I base out of Sol. Cliche, I know, but I can't help but feeling in my place there. Have my Python, ASP, and a spare Viper (Should things get ugly with losing my Python/ASP) parked in Daedalus. I also have a Lakon parked out on the first stop in my trade route. When I'm ready to go start trading, I hop in the ASP and jump to it. Make my millions and then head back for some Resource Extraction Site bounty hunting above Jupiter. It's fun to just base out of Sol, knowing where home is and seeing the sun every time I undock.

Well played Antichthon, must have been some proper effort/time you have put in, i'm half way there -with the ability to buy several of the others ships i do not own ye-t but have no inclination yet as i'm saving myself the experience of the remaining ships for the future.

Hope to see you out there, maybe ill drop into your home system some time for a battle or two :)

I'm not envious, this is the latest fashion in green cabin lightsource montage. Well done. :D

Nice one, which is your favourite, or the best all round ship in your opinion, given that you will still need to make credits?

I haven't given them all the time and attention they deserve. I got to Baron and Ensign using the Python. No news there, it's absolutely beast. The Imperial Clipper feels like it would be great for hunting down targets that run--could be a damn fine pirate ship, and it can mount a class 7 shield. The Federal Dropship seems completely pointless, as does the Orca (until they add passenger mechanics).

Once I get to elite, I'll probably kit out an Anaconda and see how it performs. At the moment, however, I'm going to have to fall in line and say the Python is the best all-rounder.

The T9 is still the best for making money.

OK so I can actually help out some on this question.

If trading, kit out a Type-6/Type-7 and do rare trades. There are some great routes on the forums that you can find to run. It will make 1-3 million every couple hours. Also if you have credits already, kit out an ASP with one 64 rack and two 8 rack. Use a basic rare trade route to do this. The ASP is great for high risk trade routes because it's got so much more meat on it's bones than the Type6/7 ships.

If Bounty Hunting, this can come down to 3 ships for best credit per hour and risk vs reward. Viper is a great maneuverable ship capable of taking down most ships. It may not be able to take the punches of some of the larger ships but it's fast enough to stay behind most targets and stay out of the firing arc of ships like Anacondas. The Cobra which is an all around cheap but higher end ship is also available. It's got similar firepower to the Viper but bigger shields just as the loss of speed. This can be a good and bad thing as sometimes the Elite Anacondas can get their nose aimed at you and with a single shot of the Plasma Accel, you are dead. The last ship is the ASP and this is a great ship for low end bounty hunting. It excels at being in Resource Extraction Sites and Nav Beacons. Fitted with good modules and you can hold off most anything that comes at you. Like the Cobra though, you trade firepower and shield power for slower speeds. You can sometimes get caught by the Elite Anacondas and it will still make short work of your ship. The biggest thing to aim for with an ASP is Cobras, ASPs, and other ships like that. Also you can take down NPC Pythons with little issue. I use a Viper for the missions that require me to kill an Elite Anaconda and the ASP for pretty much everything else. The ASP can be fitted with 4 Beam Laser Class 1 and 2 MCs Class 2 which allows it to push quite a bit of firepower out without using ammo at first. Usually you don't even need to use the MCs on Sidewinders, Eagles, and Cobras. The Viper build does have a flaw though, it uses too much power grid which means you need to know what to keep B grade and what to have set to low priority.

As it goes into the larger ships, you have the Python which gives quite a boost to kill speed but sadly that's about it. It also takes more fuel and the repair costs on just moving around is more than average bounty intake. There is a clear imbalance right now that they are said to be addressing.

I would recommend sticking with a Viper, there are some builds on the forums you can look into. Good luck and remember, don't fly what you can't afford to replace.

Edit: And when I say sticking with the Viper, I'm talking about for Bounty Hunting if you want to go combat route. If you are OK with the mindless trading route, well go with the Type-6 after you have the credits and then upgrade in time to an ASP. There are also posts in the forums detailing basic ASP fittings you should look into for trading. In the end, trading right now makes 10 times the amount per hour than bounty hunting which is truly sad.

I'd like to say - do not follow this advice.

I'm in a Type 6 (100 cargo), and I'm making 1.3 million per hour doing normal commodity trades. One jump system trades. And I'm not some trader savant. There are plenty of routes out there just like this. Rare trading is not the magical money maker people make it out to be. It's just easy to identify.

Exactly, easy to identify and not needing to do math or care. If you would like to just fly from station to station, buy a guaranteed commodity, and then continue on to another station without having to do any math or market dealing then the rares are the way to go. I can trade the rares while watching a movie or doing something else. I don't have to actually care about what I'm doing. This feeds my combat addiction. So it's your opinion on one way he should do it and my opinion on another. You however decided to say with certainty that he should not listen to my advice at all. How about let him decide, OK pumpkin.

Good info thanks both.

I've flown most of the smaller ships all the way up to the T9, but its always good to get someone else's perspective, especially if they have flown all of the available in game. I've not really explored many of the load out possibilities though, I tend to jump in a ship, give it quick test fly the give it a thumbs up or down based on that.
I guess a lot depends firstly what you want to do with the ship and secondly, how you kit it out.
I didn't get on very well with the Viper, Eagle or Sidewinder, I just found them too fragile.
I love the Cobra, which is probably the best all round ship for my style of play.

But I like the look of the Clipper, although it is sooooo wide and that puts me off.
I'd be interested in people opinion and ideas for outfitting it, in particular the over classing of shields.

I had a Python, which sadly I had to trade to get the T9.... worst mistake I've made so far.
The T9 is just a big slab of a ship, which goes where it wants when it wants to. I feel more like a passenger than a pilot.
I ding it on everything, even other ships that get too close.
I must have murdered 10 small ships last night just docking and un-docking. This side of the game feels a little dumb.
I wouldn't drive my car head on into a truck if I knew it couldn't stop, I'd give way, BIG TIME. NPC's are stupid.

Best all round credit cruncher I've flown so far has got to be the Python, but I think you need two of them, one for trading and one for hunting.
The Anaconda looks worse than the T9 for docking, I watched one from the pit of my T9 and it just made me shudder.

I still want a Clipper in my inventory.
I kept my T6, its a lovely trader and I've kept my Cobra, its almost a contender if it had more cargo space.

As for that last line MTemplar, I made 6 trips in my T9 without full insurance cover or shields and man, I was pooping myself.
Dont do it kids, ever. I got away with it, but it cost me well over 2mill in repairs over all of the trips I made last night.

Thanks once again for the ship tips, I think I will go back to the Python at my earliest opportunity.

Reminds me of those 'celebrities' and 'sports stars' who earn way too much cash and dont know what to spend it on so buy lots of cars and keep them in a massive garage... Well done anyway!

Have you upgraded all those 15 ships?

I'd say if not then most are useless without them. Also to fully upgrade any ship with class A modules will cost in the region of 20 times it's asking price. My fully kitted out Cobra costs just under 7.5 million and my Viper just under 2.5 million.

Using those as examples the ASP which is my next goal will cost 130 million. Now there's a goal to set All ships All with A modules.

I'll never sell my Cobra - its all I need.

Maybe I'll get a fancy empire ship as a weekend cruiser.

well done though :)

And why not ? You don´t like it and this is okay. But other like rare runs. Everybody has ist own playstyle. So please don´t tell people what or what not to do...
And by the way, for a starter are rare runs a good way to earn money. My opinion !
