Great interview and delivered shortly after the interview of Ben Parry. Thank you Ashley. And thank you John Kelly, of course. The Imperial Cutter must be a little marvel, considering its price. Interresting passage also on the classic spaceships.
We have already had a nice overview with Eagle, Sidewinder, Anaconda ... The realistic style is confirmed. John said that this is what is best for the game. I hope the game will be made, anyway, with many of colors.

John Kelly Lives !!!!

Did Frontier force you to wear a crash helmet? or do you have some kinky fetish we should know about?

It's obvious... He's related to The Stig.

Some say that he can dock a Cobra Mk.III while juggling plates and drinking a cider...

We have blocked out all the current ships and cockpits, so rough versions are all in the game and you can fly them around, deploy their hard points, dock in stations, and leap around the galaxy.

This sounds so cool and I can't wait to see the polished version of this.

The level of detail on the Sidewinder is really impressive and I hope all the ships have that, and that it is not lost on the really large ships. When EVA comes, this will shine.

A question, how many models of the same ship does each ship have for hull damage(like the Anaconda)? Does the sidewinder have modular damaged parts of its hull? or is it just two states, ok and not ok. Also do you have to model in a LOD system for each ship, going right down to the basic geometric shapes for distance. I'm curious how this works.

Also thanks for answering about the cockpits, I assume 360 degree cockpits will be for the first iteration of the game. I know people talk about the ship being like a character, and I get that you want the feeling that it's not just a static brick in space, but a functioning craft, but I believe a greater sense of immersion can be had when you really are just a human inside this amazing space ship.

One more thing..

imperial_courier_f.jpg

Will the Imperial Courier be making a comeback? I loved this ship from Frontier and it would look amazing with modern Elite Dangerous flair.

@John
There are times I too want to show up at the office in as much protective gear as possible. Fortunately, our hallway races tend to be over before they begin :p

Great interview :)
@John : you have good taste : RPG in video game and tabletop. What is your favorite RPG tabletop ?
And street fighter ... my favorite fighting game serie. I play with all character but I really enjoy playing with Ryu :). What is your favorite character ?

As always thanks for the great interview. Nice to see a real desk in action. Still quite clean compared to mine...
