General / Off-Topic Star Trek done, what next?

I recommend "Star Trek Continues" a very well made 'fan' production. I say fan, but it's a professional production. They have about 3 full eps made and a few shorts. Made to continue after the original series, uses the same characters, it captures the feel of TOS perfectly.

Well, I don't think I have to worry about not having anything to watch anymore:D I thank and bow before all of Thee :p

I probably risk getting jumped because there seem to bee quite a lot of people that hated it but I still feel Stargate: Universe deserves a mention.

I never really liked the original Stargate ( I watched it anyway - cause I needed my scifi fix ) and only kind of enjoyed SG: Atlantis but

I absolutely loved SGU - it is a lot darker than the original or atlantis - give it a try ... I need to warn you though: They

canceled the show without a real ending but the two seasons are in my opinion still worth watching

Have you seen Space: Above and Beyond? I thought it was a good series but it only aired for one season, back in '95. A lot of people who watched it thought it was simply ahead of it's time, and couldn't do what it wanted to with the CGI of the time.

I hear yeh, Leviathan. I too saw SG Atlantis. So, that you speak of might be in my lane.:)

I will check space and beyond also. And most likely all that is mentioned here, there shall be no doubt. It is written...

RED DWARF, RED DWARF, RED DWARF, RED DWARF......... Sorry, did I mention RED DWARF!!!!! :D

Seriously good call there. Brilliant show with gritty realism and a good story arc. Chiggy-Von-Richthofen FTW! ;)

I'll get behind several of the other people on here. If you liked Enterprise and Voyager (2 of the weaker Star Treks, but then any ST is good) and also like Battlestar, then you definitely need to check out Deep Space 9. It is by far my favorite of the Star Trek flavors (followed by original crew movies, then TNG). Like many of the series, the first season or two can be a little iffy until the writers find the groove with the characters. The first episode is a must see to set up the series and is good, but if you are on the fence during the first season just skip to the last episode of season 2 and pick up the Dominion arc that lasts the rest of the series. Seasons 3 through 6 are excellent. DS9 also has the largest battles of the franchise (sometimes even peaceful explorers have to fight). Give me Captain Sisko over Picard any day. Q visits the Enterprise and Picard plays Q's games. Q visits DS9 ...and Sisko punches him right in the mouth, lol.

Here's a little teaser trailer for you, clips from one of the more epic battles in Starfleet history backed with the epic song "Lux Aeterna" by Clint Mansell.

Also, yes Firefly is great, but I guess not for everyone. Red dwarf is good and funny, and if you like it, Hyperdrive with Nick Frost as captain was OK. And yeah Leviathan, Stargate Universe was pretty good, well, it got good. The pilot was good and there were a few good episodes like "Time" in the first season, but by the time they canceled it, it had actually found its stride and got pretty good. Sci-fi shows almost always have hit or miss first seasons, then because they are really character-pieces, they come into their own in the 2nd season somewhere once the writers figure out how all the characters behave and interact. Networks either need to produce them for 3 seasons minimum or leave them alone. Every once and a while a series has a fantastic first season, but is the exception not the rule.

Deep space 9. Darker than every other Star Trek series and IMHO more interesting.

Watching Andromeda now but it is not exactly my cup of tea

I concur.
Star trek Next generation and DS9 are the best from the next gen era.
DS9 really heats up when sisko gets the defiant, the only federation cloaking vessel designed for war (discounting the Galaxy X from the very last episode of ST TNG).

I've probably watched all of the Star Trek spin offs, and even now find myself watching the occasional episode of when I come across them.

But deep down in my soul they always wound me up. The Star Trek universe just never struck me as a realistic vision of the future. It was always too perfect.

It is scifi. :) Roddenberry was portraying what he thought could be the best of humanity - it's aspirational, which is why so many like it.

Oh, yeah. It is definitely an unrealistic future. In a perfect world, that is how space-communism would work, in all its glory. In the real world you'd end up with 1970's-USSR-in-space -- bread lines, corruption and all. I think Firefly probably has the most realistic sci-fi world. A small percentage living in blind, obedient bliss with all the modern luxuries, because the larger population lives in far worse conditions, patching-up the cast-offs of the privileged to eek out a living so the rich can save a couple space bucks.

Space bucks ...that reminds me. OP, if you haven't seen Spaceballs: The Movie, that is a definite must. (Not a TV show, but still more awesome than many of the suggestions on here.)

Ive seen a few episodes of the anime "Planetees" (about a crew that removes scrap and debris from orbit) which seems really good to be honest, if you can coupe with the typical anime style of characters (and abusive long intro sequence). I have issues there and unsure if im gonna dedicate enough to see this show through, but its very well done and the creators seem to have taken extreme care to make it realistic.

As mentioned I would thoroughly recommend both B5 & DS9 they take a while to get going but once they do you will be hooked & remember Fortune Favours the Bold my personal favourite episode.
Lex was also very good but the last series was a little week I.M.O has anyone mentioned Stargate Universe?
