Why the bounty system only helps PK'ers

I don't know how many of the forum readers here visit other sites, but the bounty system only benefits PK'ers. As posted elsewhere, it's being exploited:

Group of unnamed sufferer's of a likewise unnameable (due to mods) pathology have broken the code so to speak. Gank players driving your bounty sky high, take turns killing each other for insanely high bounty, repeat the process. Who cares about the piddly insurance on even a well fitted Python when you know that your turn is coming to kill your stationary buddy who's lowered his shields, and collect on his sky high bounty. Nothing but grief driven profit.

Sorry FD, but you can't hide in a hole forever. You're going to have to address this behavior sooner or later, and dismissing it as solo vs pvp while hiding it in a single thread is not the answer.

I'll buy a sidewinder and get bounty with you mate, then you can not cry about it anymore. And what does this have to do with PKers? Sounds like a better title would have been "Only benefits exploiters".

Would you like a nappy?

Despite the fact that what you describe would end up bankrupting the people involve, you're not going to find a fix for it anytime soon. Bounties would have to be either ripped out of the game and completely reworked from scratch or just nerfed until they were broken beyond all repair, and the horrible gankers and PKers wouldn't care, they'd still interdict every T6 in sight.

Love to find some of these guys doing this. Step in at the last second and get the last shot. :)

How long would it take to build up a bounty worth wasting time on this?

Have the bounties come out of their accounts, or at least part of it. You reappear at a station and....you get to pay your bounty before you can get another ship.

No this is ompletely wrong.

The reason bounties help PKers is because if you kill a player you get a 20,000 "fine", while your victim gets a 2,000,000 buyback charge!

How can it bankrupt the players involved? You pay pennies for a new Eagle, your buddy collects on the $300k bounty you racked up in a couple hours. You're likewise collecting on the bounties on him when it's your turn. Best of all, you're clearing fines as you go along. It's pure profit, and not going to bankrupt anyone. Math not your strong suit?

Flying a maxed out Anaconda, camping extraction zones killing mining ships and security ships non-stop took about 2 hours to wrack up a 300k bounty. There's no way someone in an eagle is going to collect that size of a bounty in a shorter amount of time.

So my question is, why do you care what some twits are doing to each other off somewhere in empty space? They aren't making money at anywhere near a competitive rate. Even if they could build up a 300k bounty in 2hours, I can do that much in 30 - 45 minutes with a Cobra running trade routes.

This game is filled with people who are so concerned with what everyone else is doing. It's a wonder that they find time to do anything, themselves.....

Stop staring at people and play the game. They can't do anything to you, so stop searching out things to complain about.

I felt like Bounties would make more sense if they were tied to the Ship that accrued them. The Ship, not the pilot. Since all the players are "immortal", it is not concerning to them to be destroyed, unless they are losing a ship that costs more than they are willing to pay for.

So bounty would be assigned to the ship, and if they tried to purchase/sell the ship, they would be required to pay off the bounty. So the only way that the bounty could be cleared, would be getting destroyed in the ship that accrued the bounty, paying off the bounty, or paying off the bounty when selling the ship.

That way, if you use an expensive ship to accrue a bounty, you at least have to pay for the hull cost of that ship, if you want the Bounty off your head. Could be taken further to require some other cost, to re-fit a wanted ship (explained with nobody wanting to be involved with a wanted criminal's ship. not that it is great narrative reason, but it isn't great narrative to have "immortal" players that dont care about death, either.)

Or, TLDR, it could just stay as it is, because you can't make good money off just the bounties, there are just exploits to deal with the bounty on your own terms, for small profit. (ish)

The bounty system benefits anybody who collects bounties.

As a Trader/Bounty hunter I make 100 k on my trade route + what ever bounty I collect. If a nice (stupid) 50 k bounty drops into my lap I'm going to blow him to hell.

Now as you are talking about players deliberately using the games system to exploite the game so they can make loads of cash, well whats stopping you and 10 friends getting cheap sidewinders and going into group mode and just one of you killing everybody else , then when that person have a few hundred bounty one of you kills him. This is what these pirates as you call them do. they do not need to kill players for fun in open mode as they can go any where they like and do it.

People will cheat as much as they can just to try and get a head start, where in fact they are only cheating themselves. By the time these cheats/pk heros have made 500 k I would have a million in the bank.

Bounty hunting is very profitable for people who play the game the way they want to, forget these wanabies as they can only pick on small fry and run from big fish

your statement is not correct. 9k fine I believe unless you are a player killer and have had this fine

You shouldn't ask that of a mathematician. I don't even hold myself in high esteem as far as this game goes. But if you're not making 1,500,000CR per hour you are seriously lagging behind.

In a couple of hours!? I can rack up more than that in one just hanging around the nav beacon shooting wanted npc's, in a couple of hours you can make much bigger profit with a lot less hassle.

^ This.

I routinely get $100-$150k for each 20 minutes of Nav beacon hunting.

They are wasting their time trying to game the system when they should be learning how to fight and making a lot more credits at the same time.

Nothing broken here.

I understand it's an issue in a flawed system but at this point it's not really relevant. It's not 'supposed' to work like this, I'll give you that.
But it's in no way more profitable compared to normal bounty hunting. I mean you get a 5k bounty for killing someone. You would have to do that a hundred times for it to be profitable, am I missing something?

Don't you have to pay the bounties that have been collected on your head - Especially if someone claims on them?

So.. Uuuh... This thread is garbage.

Yup it certainly is garbage, bounties have to be payed by the player on death -at a rate of 1.5X the amount- if returned to a station that is allied to the faction that placed the bounty or they go dormant and are just sitting waiting to be reawakened on committing crimes. You don't have any fines/bounties auto payed off like some people seem to think you do...
