The push for two million

We're not far off!!

I'm planning to upgrade to the boxed edition (£65) before Christmas sometime, but I'm holding off right now until I save my pennies.

I'm assuming that the totalizer on the elite.frontier.co.uk front-page updates to accurately reflect the current funding level?

Let's all push to 2M it would be a very nice level to have :) Just look at what Star Citizen can do in a week.

Come on people! :D

I increased my pledge just a few days ago in order to get Beta access and all the future updates. So yeah.... reporting for duty. ;)

Star Citizen gave people a reason to pump more money into the project - new stretch goals.

What's FDs reason ?

It is worth pointing out, Frontier have not suggested there is a need for a push, people on the forums have. Similarly there would be no need for fresh stretch goals if you are not asking existing contributors to contribute more.

I think the post of a video is an excellent development to encourage more people to discover this project. I do not see it as an impetus to raise more capital, unless we are told officially this is needed. If people who find the game because of the video want to pledge, that's great. For them, all the stretch goals are 'new'. :D

First of all - FD doesn't ask pledges actively. Currently backers site works more like pre-order with goodies site. So if you don't want to pledge now, don't. Just pick a copy at shop of your choice at release if you want to play ED.

Reason for lacking stretch goals is that David feels responsible for past mistakes, and don't want to promise anything anyone unless he's sure that he and his team will be capable of doing it.

It is striking contrast with rest of KS projects and I fully respect that. For example, I *want* Linux stretch goal. Despite what do you think about popularity of platform, it's gaining, and there's huge Elite veterans crowd here. But I fully understand that a) FD doesn't have capabilities to deliver such promise now and b) it could even not make economical sense atm for them (remember, you have to support platform afterwards too). Another example is planetary landings - all shows they want to do it, they will do it if nothing bad happens (they are laying hooks, thinking ahead of consequences during this stage, etc.) but it is so large and there's so many things to predict, that you can't really promise that you will do that for "x hundred thousand pounds". You just can't. I admire such level of honesty.

So while there could be *tons* of stretch goals for ED, especially after showing us good stuff they have done so far, I assume David just won't do it. He got his money needed to complete first release, they are moving with determination there. In all terms it makes sense - sooner they do release, sooner it hits retail, sooner they see some profits, sooner that money can give investors assurances, and money for wages to continue work on ED.

I've only put a tenner in so far in order to get the newsletter, I do plan to upgrade and get different potential starting positions but that's going to wait a couple of months. I may then invest further but again it will wait a little while.

I also have money in star citizen, I chose the bounty hunter package there straight out (I had a bit more disposable at the time) but I'm not really pulled in by the stretch targets. I understand the reasoning, but since I'm already a backer I get them anyway as either new players join or already subscribed players add more funds.

Both solutions are fine in practice, I'm actually more likely to invest further here than in star citizen in the medium to longer term as I already have what I want over there, here I'm still trying to figure what I'd most like to do of all the things I've done previously in the Elite games down the years.

Exactly Allen .. perhaps my reply was badly phrased to Thargon.

There is no reason to attempt to push the current pledge funds to 2M as FD have given no indication that they need more money. With the recent float on the exchange, combined with silent investors they announced recently, they are in a great position and don't need to flaunt ED for it to be made - it's going to happen regardless.

I fully expect nearer to release they will start a marketing campaign to draw in new players - that's going to cost a fair bit, but I don't beleive that would require our help.

Yea sorry, I know there's no push for generating income from Frontier - this is a good thing btw.

I guess as I frequent the SC forums and website, it's the stretch goal thing that's pushed a lot - especially the funky graphs on the main page, its the first thing you see.

I dunno what my purpose for this thread was, but I just see 2M as a nice round number ;) which other than that, it's just a goal to aim for. It's all good.

No apology needed friend! We enjoy ourselves SC or Elite, good company is what counts. I was just lucky, and or crazy enough, to pledge here lately.
Salute!

Those who curious, we have got about 20k since publishing of video (four days), and about 1k new backers. So welcome all new backers! :)

We need 33k for 1.9m and 133k 2m. It is doable :) Video is seen just by third of viewership of some of KS videos, so there's lot of grow.

As we've seen with other Kickstarter games the stretch goals can end up having a negative effect, making the team stretch too much and delaying release. I'm glad Frontier are being sensible.

Also if they really do have 60 people working on the game (as per David's interview with Edge) then that's about £200k a month in staffing costs (assuming £40k pa, which is actually very low when you consider overheads). Frontier are clearly relying on their own reserves rather than milking fans to get this game made.

Gah! I just upgraded to first round private beta! I can't stop!!! :p

I also made the mistake of looking at how much US $ my pledges actually amount to. lol.

I'm hoping to go up to Alpha but I need to sort out a new PC first. I would imagine that there will be a burst of new backers and money everytime FD show off some footage or gameplay.

The recent combat video really got my pumped for the game again. I've been a backer since March, but I've upgraded twice now in as many weeks. :D Also been going over some of the older newsletters again and I really am impressed by the potential of this game. Glad I'm going to be checking out the betas!

Lol. Suddenly remembered sitting in one of my childhood friend's room while we watched the Frontier intro together. We just couldn't believe how so much data (intro, universe, etc.) could fit on that one little floppy!
