well I'm pointing out that you have exactly 2 posts that were not an attack on somebody and exactly 0 posts that are relevant to the topic of the OP..so what else am I to think?
Ah, the classic "Arguments that don't align with my views = troll".

I'm not suffering heartache or any other condition you might try to pin on me. I'm a big boy, I can handle where to post and what, all by myself. Thank you very much for your concern.

They somehow managed to cram the 100 billion procedurally generated systems into Frontier Elite II, and that was less than a Megabyte.

I think your argument is flawed somewhat.

As for the OP, I don't think he deserves this level of a beating; while flying without insurance is stupid, there's no need to set upon him like a pack of rabid wolves.

Since launch, these forums have devolved into a pretty hostile place to be, which is a shame.

Hostile? Yea true, I'll give you that. But also very easy to avoid. If people would start to think before they act 90% of threads would be obsolete.

This is a very common thing we see here.
People leaving the game where the "last straw" was some bug, gameplay issue or not having enough for rebuy.

I don't imagine it's good for the game for people to be leaving and giving their friends negative reviews.

What is worse though is that they will be giving their friends negative reviews on the community as well.

Probably fortunate that most players don't bother with the forum at all.

I never insulted anyone, or at least I think so? I've often been asking that myself, why do I even bother? But somehow I can't let threads like this one stand without a reply because people will start to believe OP is right, if no one else is speaking up to it. Something like that.

No you have not. Sorry if my posts implied that. We were only having a discussion. :) No offence inferred or implied. :)

+rep for the name and avatar! I still play that game once in while to relax :)

Yesterday I bought an ASP, fitted it with a few million credits worth of upgrades to trade, and began to build up my money back. I realized I mis-calculated the amount of credits needed to fit the cargo hold of 128 tons, so I had to fly without insurance.

I've done this many times, I knew the risk, I knew that one mistake would make me lose everything. So I begin earning money..

After a few runs, getting close to being able to fly with insurance, and still getting used to the ASP's speed compared to the T6. I found myself overshooting right before entering the station slot, I braced for impact...and...poof.

I lose around 10-11mil and pretty much all progress with trading, however I did have a cobra stored in another system.

I'm not going to say I didn't mad, but I also realized that I was grinding too hard, I would become bored shortly with this blind trading. So in a way, losing my progress helped me plan my goals better, I'm doing trading runs in the cobra until I can get a T6 again, and shortly afterward I will outfit the cobra for some real fun, and take a break by bounty hunting or even pirating.

My point of this is, despite losing almost everything, I will eventually have more fun in the end. Don't think of this as losing all of your progress, think of this as a new beginning, now you know what you want to do, so go out and have fun, no one is forcing you to get a fully equipped Anaconda and quit the game because you have nothing left to buy.

In grinding up to something big and shiny, I underestimated how much it would take to fly an Asp. Bought one, part filled the hold with cargo and realised only as I was going out the spaceport entrance that literally 100% of my assets were at risk. I knew this, had something happened I would have only myself to blame. It did not, but the lesson is there: You must have the rebuy in the bank.

Also, can I have your stuff?........oh, you haven't got any.

I think these threads get started, because a person loads up the game, heads out into so pace and all is well. Until that is, they screw up and die. This may be the first time they have died and they immediately look at the screen expecting to find a button called 'load'. "Hold on a minute", they say to themselves, I know Ive seen a 'save' button. Where on earth is the 'load' button?

"what do you mean, 'there is no load button'? This is outrageous! I cannot be expected to start again!!!". " what do you mean, ' there is insurance? This is a game! I refuse to start again, or to hold back funds for silly insurance! I demand to be able to fly straight into a blocked docking port if I so chose. I should not have wait for the port to clear!"

Perhaps the menu should state that there is no re-load? It just may save a lot of broken hearts?

None taken. Still I'm having a hard time finding a reason to repeat the answers that have already been given. Again and again. If people like OP won't listen to reason, what else is there...

MY only gripe is that why people feel the need to respond negatively when they can just as easily ignore the post and move on. I just prefer the sympathetic approach as loosing my t5 yet again on saturday is still raw. So maybe I felt sorry as I too was an idiot more than once.

There doesn't seem to have been any useful or relevant posts in the last 4 pages or so of the thread.

Well done everyone for your attempts to apply reanimation techniques but the subject died some time ago.

I wasn't being hostile at all. The scale of "offline mode" just strikes me as too much to host locally, and that was my whole point. In my opinion, FDEV should have a parallel universe with a closer-to-Frontier mechanic so that local/multiple saves wouldn't count as cheating in "our" universe. But they don't right now. I've lost almost 50% of my total worth over the past 3 days during two "traded/upgraded almost to the hilt" crashes. One was a boost into a station in a Cobra with 4 pips to engines trying to evade a scan, the other was the exact same as OP in a T6 this morning with a full hold hitting a Type 9 in the slot, so I can really, really sympathise with the OP, and I know these things are way too easily done. Working up from where I am now, with 100,000Cr in cash, to the point where I can do what I wanted to do (A-class my Cobra's Thrusters and FSD) is now going to take about a week or two. My fault entirely.

For what its worth OP, I understand you're feelings. Although I've been reasonably lucky (touch wood) outside of playing beta, thus far I've only had one death. There are other times when having insurance is almost not viable, for example when you die in your first sidey with a full hold because you're still desperately trying to scrape together your first 100k.

I feel one back up save might be nice, particularly if you're playing in solo mode (maybe only if you're in solo mode)

You know for like that one day when you really just want to do something a bit reckless because its fun. Like open fire on a Coriolis Station. You know it's going to end in death, but you do it because you can.

Actually, that is THE ONLY time.

Beyond that, simply don't buy a new ship unless you have:

1. money for insurance
and
2. money to buy new cargo

Otherwise, tough.

I understand the OP's frustration, however with a little foresight it all could have been avoided. I won't upgrade my ship until I have enough cash to do all the upgrades I want, fill it with it's first load of cargo and cover the rebuy costs.

The thing is that I don't think this is the issue. He doesn't seem to have enjoyed the experience of getting to the point where he lost everything. If it feels like work then he might as well have given up before the accident that wiped him out.

It does rather seem that he's only still here in the hope of putting others off the game now though.

TL;DR - Rage quit and then post on the forum... did you wet the bed and tell your mates? :)

and of course, can I have your stuff :) ?

Looks like you tuned up to the party after it's finished, and haven't even bothered to bring any booze.

Everybody just has to get a boot in, don't they? Have you not seen the multitude of other posts doing the same thing?

That aside, I think it's clear that FDEV need to make the insurance thing a little bit more visible to CMDR's. It's happened far to many times for this to be garden-variety stupidity - I think perhaps a tutorial that covers an un-winnable situation that results in ship loss?

Please mods, what's so hard to understand? Ragequit post made just to flame bait=close?

There isn't here that hasn't been said 2000 times already and it's just an excuse for all the 'offline trolls' and whiners to come out and insult people
