As I recall, the full ship complement was never going to be available at launch.

Isn't it more dangerous for FD to promise specifics and not deliver, rather than being vague and firming up detail when they know what can be achieved?
.
I am not really sure what you're wanting. Or why.

Yes it was.

What I want is not just for me. What I'd like for us and for FD is just a different approach. Like "We needed to release the game in December for financial reasons, in order to keep ED going well into the future and realise the ultimate vision and continued growth of the game." instead of pretending it never happened and instead of "more in the coming weeks" how about a simple "we don't know yet."?

> $5 says not a single dev graces this thread with so much as even a rebuttal.

To be fair, there's hundreds of threads a day and they'd have to read most of them to get an idea of what merits a response. That'd require someone full-time. That person would then have to co-ordinate with people who are in a better position to give an authoritative answer.

I think their mechanisms for communications could be improved somewhat, instead of 'forums and tickets'. If they had a bug list for instance, that'd save people submitting lots of duplicates. I'm not entirely sure what a dev could say to this kind of thread anyway, other than that they've read it and maybe taken players opinions on board.

I asked a dev in a thread who is their person monitoring the community and the forum. Who is the go-to person for issues and it was ignored as there isn't one.

The ticket the problem is a bad joke. If a Dev reads a thread about an issue why the hell don't they "report" the problem instead of us having to wait a month or two or more for our ticket to magically be ignored when they are right there reading it????? It smacks of "that's not my job" and is just a terrible way of handling issues. Seriously, why the hell do devs always say "ticket it"? I'm talking to you now, dear dev, YOU ticket it and wait a month or two for MAYBE a response and see how you like it my dev friend.

It would take too long to list but, 25 ships at release is the easiest to bring up,

They never said 25 ships at release, the actual words were " if we reach £1.5 million then we'll add another 10 playable ships to the game."

Ambiguous communication is FD's main failing, so many things they have said can be misinterpreted, but you'd never get the "25 ships at release" thing to stand up in court.

One of their open job positions is for a web developer. Who knows, maybe they've got better communications planned and just lack the person to competently implement it.

I think we can confidently say that the channels of info going back and forward can be much improved, and a lot of the noise removed.

I know this is a forum and people could care less that I'm mad as hell but, if one of the biggest fanbois like me finally has had enough then "Houston we have a problem."

There's a serious management problem at FD right now IMO.

See,

Here's the thing from my point of view. What I bought around christmas was a modern version of the game I played on the BBC and C64 back in the eighties and this is what I got with a few more bells and whistles on it. I know some people have been disappointed by the lack of MP functionality, but if you take it from the perspective that it is modern version of elite 1984 with a well designed framework to add extra functionality to it (that FDev will do), it's not as doom and gloom as you may think.

Really, give this game some time. It has incredible potential and I can't wait to see what FDev will do with it. That's the other thing, very few gaming companies will reveal their detailed plans for a platform like this. For 2 reasons: Firstly, they'll be hounded by the user base when they announce certain features (pros and cons debate/trash talk). Secondly, they'll be hounded by the same people to give a release date for those features. They will only announce stuff when it's ready for beta and then they won't give a release date. Just because this is a kickstarter does not mean that the backers have a say in what should and should not be in the game. FDev will make those decisions and you will just have to deal with them.

I honestly thought that the ED forum and user base would be different. Maybe slightly older and a bit more mature. But this game has a community just as toxic as any other game I've played. So, I'm grand with FDev doing what they're doing. In fact I find them a little more willing than other companies to engage their user base. Unfortunately, that willingness will probably disappear with time as they get more disillusioned with the members.

RSI does it...and if/when they miss something theres a post about the how and why of it, and an expected date. Not much secretsy going on there. And *most*(majority of) people are even okay with it once things are explained.

LOL...

Reminds me of PGI games and the Mechwarrior Online debacle.....They STILLLLLL dont have community warfare working correctly(ghost drops, spamming drops, math is off) after 3 years past the announced date...

Exactly. I'd have so much more respect for whoever makes these decisions at FD if they came clean with all of us instead of vaguely worded non-answers. A "I don't know" is always better than "I know but, I'll tell you later" especially when we all know that they don't know.

They stated 30 ships available at launch, pretty clearly sir.

One of the job listings should be Community Manager that actually is about managing the people in the community as opposed to plastering ED quips on social media. Especially in their own forum.

You do seem quite annoyed, like you said... I've seen worse from people flying without insurance though ;)

I'd just suggest picking a date, in a month or two time... and if you're still unsatisfied with how they're going about things, even after giving suggestion/beta help and whatnot then maybe the naysayers are right to say nay.

That would honestly make me happier then actual content right now. Even when content does come out i see no reason why it wouldn't be months of wondering all over again and i would rather have a pipeline to their ongoing process then some content. If it's a money issue they can always have a fund raiser by selling a ship skin or skins while informing the players if they reach their goal they will be able to take on a community manager. I'm sure we would hit the mark fairly fast.

I have only had the game for a fortnight, so still count as a noob.

My humble opinion is that this game is worth the £40 I paid x multiples. It's a refreshing game, complex and I dare say took and still takes a lot of head scratching to code for.

Had my xbox , then 360, then one... Old time PC gamer. As I say humble view is this is good work so far.

Greatest respect to all view above but I simply can't agree with some of the anger and negativity. Give the team a chance.

(Try playing assassins creed, battlefield etc etc etc. This game is not as broken as people make out. Don't make the team who have and are working on this sad ;))

I'd say the issue has been you following the game from part way through development and completing testing/bug reporting has given you and many a false sense of entitlement. The company does not need to reply to each and every individual request for attention because frankly the majority is baloney.
You are well aware of the state of the game and are extremely knowledgable in its progress but can't accept they are hiding stuff for ... reasons.

Play something else for 6 months if your that "mad" because you'll achieve nothing here.

Man I've been the biggest fanboi for 7 months. Tested hundreds of hours. Paid $150 for the privilege to do so. Is it too much to ask from FD for some straight answers?

Why am I mad? I'm mad because what could possibly be the best game in PC history (IMO) is being flushed down the toilet by someone or someones poor decisions. Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy and that includes ALL the truth not just what some greedy schmuck deems will protect the bottom line in the short run. It'll always come back to bite you in the end.

Most of us are in our 30's, 40's and 50's that are one here so stop treating us as if we are 13 and have no clue. I suspect even most 13 year olds can see what is happening.

Call me old fashioned but, I will always respect the guy that looks me in the eye and tells the truth.

I don't think anyone here does not think its worth the money we paid. It's that at least some of us are used to a good deal more communication between us and the games developers or community managers. I love this game and will continue to support it financially but that does not mean i cant voice my opinion about thing i feel should be addressed.

I feel entitled to open honest answers? On the contrary, you and those like you have grown complacent with smoke being blown up your butt and just accepted it as "normal".

I'm not and have not asked for advanced knowledge of things to come or "secret" information. I'm asking for answers to what happened to what was promised, which I do feel entitled to.

Hear ya and don't disagree.

Just can't help thinking that the team come here and read (we know some of them at least)... and they must be a bit frustrated. I went back to work 2 weeks ago, if my customers had a forum going like this and I read the comments - I would change my profession and take up gardening :)

They have gone to ground, however I don't think chasing them will help... Whatever they have planned it will happen and beating them probably doesn't help in the long run.

I am a pacifist though lol, only killed one CMDR to date!

Amen brother.

No, you paid $150 to have early access to an unstable build of a game. Essentially, suckered into window shopping.
Proper, professional beta testing involves GETTING paid.

I can't really disagree with you feeling justified in your frustrations, Sanderson.

It's true what you say about the age bracket here, and with the right conditions (and generally speaking) older players with deeper pockets can finance the game just fine.

I won't pretend to know all the in's and out's, I get a hunch 90% of this is driven from the top, including the communication issue (perhaps the devs have been told to keep schtum). It seems very much like D.Braben wanted the latest Elite incarnation to be his finest (naturally)... and I enjoyed the older releases enough to think we share similar ideals about the game. Could be wrong but it doesn't matter all that much, just my hunch.

We will see how it pans out.

Actually Alpha and Beta were pretty stable builds for the most part. And suckered, that phase of the game building was great. It was a gamble of believing the product would come together, yes. But if a lot of us didn't take that gamble, we wouldn't be here arguing about a current game that lots of people are playing, even with all its issues.
