How am I going to afford a bigger ship with only 10cr a run?

It's a tricky one, but to get "off the mark" I'd get rid of my loaned lasers, and basic discovery scanner and add 2t cargo space. You can then get delivery missions that pay a bit better (6t) also look out for the "zero mass" courier services for messages, documents, etc - you'll only get a few hundred Cr but it doesn't take up any room. Get into a Hauler as soon as you can, get more cargo and trade some more. Then you'll be able to fund a sidewinder and upgrade it for some PewPew fun :)

How i made my first few hundred thousand or so.

1) Take courier missions or light delivery missions. Do not bother with go-for missions, because it can be tricky and requires initial investment from you. Don't worry about the timer. Most deliveries can be completed in around 5-10 mins. They also tend to have long deadlines, so if you need to AFK for a while its not a problem - just check the timer for the mission before accepting it.

2) Every time you jump into a new system for which you do not have data, do a scan. You then sell that data whenever you are > 20LY from the system you scanned. Its not much, but is effortless. Alternately, you can sell your basic scanner and fit a small cargo bay in its place allowing a little extra space for delivery missions.

Do that for a few hours, you should have enough money for an Eagle or a Hauler. Go for the Hauler if you would like to do trading (in which case, i'd recommend you read up on rare item trading) or exploring. Go for the Eagle if you would like to try your hand at bounty hunting, although have a care, the Eagle is made of paper, so choose your targets wisely until you get some upgrades and skill. Go hang out a nav beacon and look for low ranked Sidewinders and Haulers that are wanted.

Fly safe commander.

PS: Oh, never ever fly without enough money to cover your insurance. Number 1 cause of ragequit.

Also do the trade runs on the bulletin board where they supply the goods. You can tell these because there is a fine if you dont deliver on time. They are a good source of income at the beginning, as you go straight from A to B and to have to go and get the goods in the first place.

Search the forum for BOUNTY HUNTING @ RES. You will find detailed descriptions on how to make a lot of money within reasonable time. Search my posts.
You should focus on ships with 2.000 Credits worth BOUNTY. Not the 10.000 or 20.000 range. They will kill you. I suppose you fly with the started kit.

Bountyhunting at RES can easily make 200.000 Credits in 45 minutes. But you have to have a decent ship. With the starter ship, it might be 10.000 to 15.000 Credits.

Trading is a pain in the ass. Especially with 4t Cargo Space.

I've got a Cobra worth around 7,000,000Cr. I did it all by trading Algae. Took me around 2000 hours but I got there in the end.

Better the devil you know, right?

...you sure about those figures? 2000 hours with a 12 hour shift per day is 166 days! ;)

Bit of advice for the OP- don't trade algae!

3 weeks into the game and I fly a fuly upgraded type 7. I play 2-3 hours a day.
This game is very easy once you set up your brain at optimising things, missions, profits/hours, dont get blown up by stations or courgeously flee from encounters you cant win.

As others have said OP, courier missions of taking goods from A to B and data / document delivery missions will set you up nicely to eventually afford a hauler, and from there you can build your resources to suit whatever career path you want to pursue from there.

As people have said, concentrate on BB missions until you can afford a bigger ship. I went with a Hauler as that was before the Adder was included, now i'd beeline straight for the Adder. One you have that continue with missions then begin to trade when you find a good run.

A few posts have mentioned rare trading... These are special commodoties that you can buy reasonably cheaply in limited quantities at specific stations. The price that you can sell them for increases the further you go from where you bought them, maxing out at around 140 light years away. You can easily get around 15-20k profit per tonne if you cover some ground, and it really doesn't feel like grinding. Go to http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/ to find a route that works for you.

Doing a few missions should build you up a few thousand credits to use as a trading float. I'd also advise getting a fuel scoop and learning to use it if you want to do rare trading as it saves time refuelling in stations and saves you on gas money as well.

How to make money with a starter ship:

1. Buy fuel scoop
2. sell weapons
3. Head of into unknown space
4. Turn of all filters in the galaxy map and visit blue unknown systems
5. fire up your scanner on entry and then scan the planets that are not white
6. Scan 20 systems and go to any station to cash in
7. Buy Hauler

You can also contemplate mission running or mining.
Alternatively just find an outpost with a black market, and go to "Unidentified Signal Sources" and grab stuff that lies around. Then sell at the black market.

Hello!
This is what I did my first days to get CR. I went into solo mode and jumped to Eravate system. From there I went to the NAV beacon close to the sun and started roaming around and killing wanted ships. Scan them first then go into left side bar->contacts or maybe it is navigation then check what the scanned ship is worth. Most of the times you get around 2-5k Cr per ship you destroy, from time to time around 12-17k and sometimes you are lucky and find an anaconda worth 40k and above. Just be sure that they are wanted and that you can handle them. For example a ship worth 2k with a Elite status might not be worth it. This was a good way for me to first judge my combat capabilities and secondly learning alot of basics about the game. If you encounter an anaconda worth around 40k, dont attack but wait for the system security ships to attack and then attack. Be sure to keep distance so you dont get obliterated by the anacondas firepower. In a day I managed to farm for a Viper ship, 144k. Then the next day I farmed for a Adder ship and now I have started doing missions and cargo transports instead ^^.
When you kill a ship go to transactions and there will be a "bounty" list, check where what kind of bounty it is. for example "eravate independet free". go to Ackerman market and turn then bounty in. Most of the times Ackerman market is enuff. If you accidently shoot a clean ship, leave the NAV beacon and go to Cleve hub and remove the wanted. Sometimes I went to Ackerman but they are likely to shoot you down. Lost about 50k bounty that way. Twice.

If you are having trouble killing ships, use the NPC system security ships to your advantage.

Just realised at most of these very basic starter questions are all from the same poster. Seriously my friend. Do yourself a favour and spend an hour reading the manual. Watching some Let's Play vids on Youtube etc. It will save a lot of frustration in the long run.
