Pirates

Well said Skip.

@Kancro; I was flying around the Volungu region last night and saw an Imperial Clipper in SC, up ahead. I always hail hollow blips and say hello, so I did this time. He said hello back. All is well in the world.

So I'm happily heading to the Station with the clipper still locked, admiring its shape in the target scanner. The clipper is inverted, pointed toward me.

As I get closer, I note the clipper pull up and fall in line behind me and I think to myself, " hmm, this could be trouble?"

Just to be safe, I pull a 90 degree turn, lock a distant object and fly off in that direction, away from the station, the clipper follows!

Ok then, time to pull up the charts and select a different system. I select the system I just came from, engage FSD, 3, 2, 1, goodbye Mr Clipper. :)

Fun stuff indeed!

Well done!! Lol. Point is that at the time, I didn't know humans look hollow in the radar...lol. Heck, it's never happened to me before!!

Additionally, I really dont ho targeting other ships while flying cause I lose lock on the station and have to go back to navigation to lock it. Wondering if there is an easier way to do that. So, I didnt even notice I was being followed!!

Of course, learned both lessons:

-pay attention to hollow squares and,
- even if annoying, scan for ships around and go back to lock destination.

Yes, I think situational awareness whilst in Super Cruise, is crucial. No one can Interdict you, if you stay frosty. They have to line up behind you and get quite close. What was true in the Battle of Britain, remains true in the year 30xx; Flying straight and level gets you killed! LOL

Just gonna post in here to say they pretty much have to ask you to stop to do any real pirating, the current threat is destruction or cargo as its the easiest way to achieve what you want limpets are unreliable if anybody runs point defence, which is extremely cheap and why wouldn't they? Or if you go for cargo bay most ships actually die before you can get a decent mark on it - I can reliable do type 9's cargo hatch because they are slow and have a bit more hull but any sort of evasive trader you are out of options Its threat or go home empty handed.

Depends on what you're flying. If you're much faster than them, hitting the hatch tends to be pretty easy. If you're the same speed(ish) (ie. Asp vs Type-6, or pirating the same ship type as you're in) threats are more required, unless the fight back.

I get cargo out both ways. I prefer it when they volentarily drop as it's much faster to scoop. I often get more from blasting hatches/limpets though.

Not really, it depends on your speed. If you both are going +25c, you can interdict from around 300-500Ls depending on your interdictor module. And there's no need to "line up", you only need a fraction of a second of someone's buttocks to get the tether.

Hitting the hatch on anything flying straight is easy.... I was gonna argue but you know what your right I'm not easier to hit whatever speed you are but i'm sure many players fly in a straight line. I've watched your stream enough to be pretty much flabbergasted at some of the things people think help, and the things that really do help but that seem completely oblivious of.

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm going to be in Solo mode from now on.

That's totally stupid. Just the online world and the risk makes the game interesting. Since I play online games (Battlefield mostly), I could never go back to an offline game. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooring!

Playing without a bit of adrenalin is like playing BINGO. Ok, go for it, grandpa.

Easiest to shoot the hatch after you shoot out the drives and they are drifting away... Only for people that don't believe me when I say drop 10t, you have 10 seconds before I open fire... Or for people who are rude and open fire first or tell me to F myself ;-)

see whats wrong with that is the only reason you'll get anything is if they don't know where self destruct is :p its not really viable piracy except piracy on ignorance!

Playing a MMO in solo does seem a bit like playing frisbee by yourself.

But those who buy the frisbee choose how to play...

Like if any decent pirate would even care with a trader self destructing... at most we just *shrug* and FSD out to find another trader ( or smuggler ).

you're right but my point was that a dead trader with no cargo captured does not = successful piracy lol, I wasn't suggesting the pirate would care just that that target wasn't a success using the options currently available outside of dialogue.

While I agree that people self-destructing aren't much of a bother, forcing them to self-destruct rather than getting cargo out of them is kinda silly, don't you think?

If you have a target you may get cargo from and blow that chance by forcing him to self-destruct that's bad piracy. If people self-destruct because people are crazy, that's not really an issue, just something that happens.

To be fair I would say that by playing in open you are already consenting to PvP.

Can you show me the part in the TOS where it says that? Can you show me any official word from Frontier stating 'when you enter open you consent to unwanted pvp' ? Please, go ahead, enlighten me.

Actually, fly off, laughing at the stupidity of mankind is more appropriate. How did we ever make it this far? ;)

I don't need a sign outside the turnstiles, or T's & C's on my Ticket stubs, warning me that by entering the Terraces, I may have to witness a Football Match! :p

Hmm. Let's see... logic dictates...

Solo Play = Playing by myself, thus, no humans getting in my way.

Open Play = Playing with other human players in the game. Humans do what they want. Not what I want. Thus, they will probably do something I don't want and I have two choices--1. Deal with it. 2. Leave.

End of case.

I choose to deal with it as humans provide the most interesting ingredient to this game. I grew up playing space games in the 1980s. I've had my fill of AI. I thoroughly enjoy the random elements humans provide to the experience, both good and bad.

Players can interdict, attack and destroy same as NPC. Saying you dont want "unwanted" PvP is like a solo player saying they dont want "unwanted" EvP.

As a rule I hate those terms, they brake immersion by putting walls between the players and the Universe a game is trying to simulate. I love games that have the same rules for NPCs and PCs. If an NPC can do it, so should we. Its bad enough we are all stuck as "independent" pilots, while NPCs can belong to a faction now youd like what? A declaration of PvP consent before my lasers can hit-detect your ship?

You can't be serious ? TOS ? Really ?

Can't stop laughing.

As part of the insurance re-buy process, there should be a dialogue box "Your ship was destroyed by Cmdr xxx. Would you like to contribute some credits towards their bounty? <enter amount>

Also, the best approach text I've seen is This isn't a robbery, I'm merely collecting the System Trader's Tax
