I hope you do give it another chance, there have been a few times when something has irritated me and made me stop playing for a bit but then I watch a video or a stream on it and I want to get right back in there.

The random nature of the unidentified signal sources does mean that you'll find what you're looking for anywhere between the first drop out of frameshift, the twentieth and so on. It can get a little annoying but that's the nature of looking for a particular canister/ship in a solar system.

I've been paranoid about running out of fuel from day 1 and the idea of being self sustaining made the fuel scoop one of my first purchases. I can't remember the training missions but if fuel wasn't mentioned there, I guess it's something that may not leap to everyone's mind when they're caught up in the moment.

It is worth watching and reading all the resources you can not only to get the basics but also get the nuances of playing too.

There's a diverse range of people who play E:D and some are the type who'll tell you to sink or swim and leave you to it, others will tell you where to get the best swimming trunks and remind you not to eat before hitting the water.

Give it another go, you're a bit wiser now for that first experience.

That's the problem with gamers these days - no stamina!

I hated this game for the first 3-hours played, and came to the forum to learn and complain about it.

Since then I've flown back and forth between the same 2-points about 751 times, visited 61 USSs, and explored 100s of systems.

I still hate it, but I am starting to have fun. Maybe I'm kidding. I can't tell anymore.

Internet translation of OP. He's struggling needs some help but comes across as so many people do by spitting the dummy out.

I felt like this when I was forced to watch Black Swan.

Now that I've told the Internet how god awful that film was I can finanly leave this world for another, my mission complete.

Unfair! I'm grooving out now!

How am I expected to maintain the desired level of forum bitterness and betrayal while grooving out to awesome tunes.

Well at least you took the time to complain about it on the forum for the game you have no interest in.

Ok, So here is my first impression of the game. I do the training missions. I start an open play game and after fumbling around with the keyboard I figure out how to take my first mission and after a little more fumbling I manage to launch my ship off and away I go. I have a mission to get a black box from somewhere in space and finally jump to the area. I have no idea where to find a black box so I'm jumping around looking all over and checking my nav panel. Finally after looking for about 45 minutes I find out I am almost out of fuel in the middle of space I have no money and I can't jump anymore due to low fuel. Frankly I don't even care anymore. I just spent 3 days trying to buy this game because it wouldn't accept my credit card and I contacted my bank and the issue wasn't with them. So I had to reactivate my Paypal and wait for the deposits. I think the ships in this game look horrid and the effort I put in just to play it I am quite . Thanks for wasting my time.

I'm confused :S

You say that this was your first time playing and you have your first mission. To retrieve a Black Box from a nearby system. OK, fair enough.

What confuses me is a) Where did all your money go? And more importantly b) How did you manage to burn off all your fuel jumping to a nearby system and SC'ing around looking for the Black Box?
You must've been playing for the last 2 weeks solidly to burn off all the fuel in SC? :S

No wonder you're upset.

Well this game is just not for everyone. Just like Flight Sim is not for everyone.

Here's a Step by Step.

Thanks! Now I'm all bitter again like I should be.

Yay! Nice community spirit guys........

That's the way to encourage new players into the game.

Back-slaps all round. Now hit the showers.

Games are always hard to figure out in the first few hours. Especially complicated games. You're welcome to quit, but I hope you rethink after taking a break for a few days. I had much the same experience and I'm a lot happier with it now. Really unhappy with some of the half-wits here in the Forums, and with some past and upcoming development issues, but that's another story.

To find your black box, you need to explore "Unidentified Signal Returns". The thing you're looking for, whether it's cargo, pirates, cops, or an assassination target, generally spawns in those.

Buy a cheap fuel scoop. It won't be fast with a cheap one, but unless the only star around is a brown dwarf, white dwarf, neutron star, black hole or T Tauri star, you'll be able to refuel simply by flying close (but not too close!) to the star. It's easy and, once you can afford a better fuel scoop, it won't be as slow anymore.

Now in the situation you ultimately did find yourself in, you could always simply self-destruct. As a beginning player, re-buy or no, you'll be plunked right back into the same kind of ship you just lost with the same 1000 credits you just lost, too. Or you can go to the menu, clear your save, start over and try again. No game I ever played lacked at least some element of this... and in the first few minutes I always react exactly the same way you do too, so I'm not judging. I also tend to come back later and kick ass, too, so I'm hoping you'll do the same. :)

Also, I suggest playing solo until you get the hang of things. Me, I may never go into Open.

See you out there. Or not. Lol

Well said +1

this is not one of those quick start games.

The only game I know that is tougher on new players is EVE, which takes a good month to learn enough to not get killed for doing "Stupid Stuff" (TM)

the actual game here is not difficult, more like obscure / arcane. Lots of in game secrets and know how that you just do not get unless you study up.

A must have for sure is a good controls setup without it, you aren't qualified to dock and undock safely.

I think what a lot of casual players of other games miss here is that it is in fact a flight simulator also and i can easily think of a dozen ways to crash and burn before you even leave the coriolis station.

And i did that mission he's talking about, it's not difficult, but it takes knowing about cargoes, station panel, supercruise, US Signals, cargo scoop, interdiction, patrols, etc but it paid me 12k, on day one.

I just kind of lucked out, and played it like it was EVE, and got through it, very carefully, after reading the manual, doing the tutorials a dozen times for each, except the blast that defenseless targets in the belt one.

Good luck, guy that quit. Time spent reading the manual is well spent, the Navy taught me that.. and not to quit.

+1 Well said

They really need a "registered owner" tag for the forums so we can separate the trolls from the actual players.
