Lack of Interest

More and more CMDR leave the game because is boring. So in a few month only the kick starter will play it and come to the forum and said this game is amazing....

I think that would make the Backers et. al. happy. The game is what you make of it. If you need to have everything layed out for you, and have arrows pointing the way you should go, there is a world of games out there for you. If you want to make your way in a Cutthroat Galaxy, with your own steam you're the Elite type. Just sort it out and make a decision. Trying to force this game, or any other game, to fulfill your dreams is only going to cause you angst.

Not there yet, but at some point i expect to need a break too.

Still an unfinished "Divinity: Original Sin" floating about, if it happens any day soon, and then there's always Warthunder or Path of Exile to fall back on.

Witcher 3 will definitely cause an ED pause, i know that much.

Bottom line, always have other games at the ready, Xntryk (danish ?), there's nothing unusual or unexpected about the way you feel.

I agree with all the comments saying "take a break". Indeed, a short break can do wonders for you. Having said that, I've really enjoyed myself in the last month or so and I'm looking forward to the new content Frontier are planning. But I think it really boils down to realizing that ED is a game where you should "blaze your own trail", i.e. not rely on the developers to create new stuff constantly, but rather try to create experiences that make you feel good with yourself.

So, I got home today,.... Booted up the game rig,..looked at my DK2 and had pretty much zero interest in playing Elite:Dangerous.

That Really sucks.... When I first loaded up the game and played on the DK2, I thought I would never stop playing. And as cool as it is to really feel present in the game, after almost 2 months of doing the same few things over and over, I am just bored with the game. The grind to make money to buy bigger ships to make more money to buy bigger ships to make more money to buy bigger ships etc. etc. is uninteresting because there is nothing to do with that money except buy bigger ships.... I can't build an empire or own a station, I can't join a union or a guild and participate in large objective based combat or missions, I can't do any meaningful or productive exploring...beyond point at a star or planet and wait..... wooooo hooooo. Money/credits should be a means to an end,...not the end in and of itself. Combat vs. NPC's is ridiculously easy, vs humans is more fun but almost never evenly matched, and anyone can just DC to avoid the consequences of losing a fight. Man,... sitting in the ships in VR is the coolest thing I've seen in a game.... BUt cool surroundings can only carry a lack of depth for so long. SO, I am left checking in after updates to see if anything has been changed or added (not yet far as I can tell). I'll check back again after 1.1..... I didn't really want to pirate other players, but that is probably the only semi interesting thing left to do in this game.... Problem with that is there are never any players around even in supposedly "busy" systems I hardly ever see anybody. Not to mention that I dont really want to deal with the coms panel.... I'd need to set up voice attack to use in in VR.... so maybe interdict and see what happens.... runners get splattered,.... people that drop their cargo live (maybe) ... I don't know what else there is to do really.... suggestions welcome.

Its exactly what made me loose interest after a week. There's nothing to do but grind. I keep coming to the forums and page to see if anything interesting will happen or if anything else is on the plans but I see nothing going on. The game is just a bore fest to me now and I suggest you do as others said, play something else for a bit. Even though after doing so for a while I still have no interest in grinding to buy another ship to grind some more and get another ship. What kind of Universe has millions of inhabitants and all they do is grind to buy ships?

That is short sighted and completely wrong. The grind is the players fault. If you have this whole Galaxy in front of you, and all you can think of is getting a bigger ship, that's on you. What do any other games offer you, but bigger ships, guns, tanks, swords.... You have to make your way in the Galaxy in all regards, not just with ships. You should be earning, to get the ship you want, and fly it. Endlessly seeking to increase your bank roll isn't the game, it's just a part of it. You have to rely on yourself to find things to do. This is not an MMO for everyone. That's just plain ok.

I like the game too, but it is boring at the moment. Its not about having everything laid out for you, face it, the game isn't exactly hard. The frustrating thing is having a huge galaxy to play in, but only being able to do about 3 same repetitive things. You can't 'make something of it' if you don't have the tools or features to do so. There are just a lot that are bored to death with the bare bones content it currently has, while other people defend it to the hilt like its some revolutionary game that it isn't. Its just a decent game, in a fresh genre for MMO's. I mean Christ, it doesn't even have multiplayer support yet, in 2015! Madness!

Of course people will get frustrated. Once more features are added it will be fine, but for now, people are frustrated, and make posts like this because of that and because they like the game enough to say so.

Always better to take a nice break when you begin to feel fatigued, rather than force yourself to play for a few more days while wondering why you're not having fun.

Wishing it was something that is isn't, yet, is the problem. I grab a couple 'Kill X Pirates" mission and go dropping into U.S.S.'s. I get items to smuggle, I get Bounties, and I get entertained. Maybe I'm just easy to please, or I find ways to make the best of it. I simply enjoy the flying. I find it great. I always seem to be wishing I had more time to fly. I guess we are just two side of the coin. I don;t expect the Dev's to entertain me, I just expect them to give me a Galaxy that I can do my think in.
.
I come here to be sure that more than one point of view is heard. Not to dominate those who's opinions differ.

Looking back to the 1980s, Elite was all about becoming Elite. About being the best, about saying you made it to Elite. I always had the impression back then that only a few ever made it. I never did. I also feel now that getting to Elite is not what its about. Its about discovery. However in this day and age it also needs to evolve and become something more. The scope for content is limitless but its up to the developers to furnish it. So many ideas have been postulated by players on these forums it would be nice for the developers to interact with us a bit. Let us know what's a good idea, what could be implemented in 3, 6, 12 months time.
What is needed urgently IMO is proper player interactions in game, a bigger more player influenced story arc such as a great war between Federation and Empire, at least 2 alien races, Thargoids yes as the Big Bad but another none interfering more advanced race, more varied missions with bigger galactic wide consequences. Smaller story arcs that would influence players to converge in localised areas thus increasing interactions.

Last week, i spent three hours:
Got a mission to find a black box. searched around the system, found 4 tons of wine floating, snuck around patrols, searxhed multiple docks for the black market. found a tiny out of th way station in an anarchy system, decided that's my new base. Went back looking for the box, met an NPC captain who advised me to sell it to his people and break the deal. broke off contact, and thought about it, but decided after the failed meat run to the orphanage that cost me 800 credits that I was no longer delivering cargoes for free. flew into the home dock, sold the cargo off, made a decent amount. looked at the factions, and the news. Made a plan to run operations for an underdog faction, once I get a decent set of weapons.

looked at the galaxy map, and started figuring a route that's 20 jumps away, so i can download cartography scan data.

Are we playing the same game?

An average day in space, and loved it, every second.

I'm here for the stories.

"I got a bigger ship", to me, is not a story.

There's lots to do.

I saw a guy on the forums recently set up to make his own sort of coalition to make a change in galactic politics. Someone else figured out how to give other players credits.

So you could have people giving flight training to new pilots, or a smuggler takes your hot cargo, fencing stuff that you don't want to risk.

lots to do, lots of stories.

Well, there's always the forums to keep you occupied. :D

Seriously, I'm hoping for more interesting missions some time in the not too distant future... :)

You aren't the only one.

I've talked to a few Elite players and they are bored already and either taking a long break or about to.

Most of them aren't sure if they will bother coming back, what with SC coming out and lots of other good games about this year.

Yeah, will most likely do the same thing. I don't even know why I'm playing currently :D. It's kinda boring to do same things over and over again, and getting better ranks is just pointless. It's like levels without any rewards or other shenanigans. But FD already got the money so I guess that's ok enough :p

...I can't build an empire
But you can support or challenge one.
or own a station
But you can own ships you keep at different ones.
I can't join a union or a guild
But you can join others in changing the economic, security and experiential dynamics of thousands of locations

and participate in large objective based combat or missions
This is coming.

I can't do any meaningful or productive exploring...
This is just wrong...you can explore literally the entire galaxy.

...Money/credits should be a means to an end,...not the end in and of itself...
Money isn't a means to an end in Elite; there is no one end to Elite. The Elite experience is about making your way in a galaxy of 400 billion stars, hundreds of thousands of humans, millions of NPCs and you know the Thargoids, minimum, are coming. Money allows you to infinitely tweak all your ships, or just one...it is a result of taking clear action in the systems of your choice, either in response to GalNet or to wanderlust and whim...money is means across the experience. My hope is that you return from the more directed experiences elsewhere, and let your imagination fly. A book called Breakpoint and Beyond, Sir Ken Robinson tells us, showed through some research that nearly all of us operate at genius level when very young at divergent thinking...and we get educated out of the ability as we grow older. I think that the mis-education of the modern gamer is along the same lines, and reflected here (and a hundred other posts like this one). Not, ultimately, a jab at you, but rather an imploring: try something different with the fullness of your intent, and see how you might change/expand/become... just a thought.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Your feelings echo my own.

ED is a game that shows great promise and one that I expect to yet achieve great things. Today, though, I cannot get much enthusiasm to fire it up for many of the same reasons others have already stated. That said, I expect FD to flesh it out in time. In the meantime I'll just hang back a bit and watch how it develops without playing too much I'm afraid.
