Clipper as a bounty hunter : Nice surprise

I recently got my Clipper to replace the slug of a T7 and was very happy with the performance an agility of it compared to the T7.

This got me wondering, T6 -> Asp = Better, mmmm T7 -> Clipper = Better ??

So I went ahead and did some weapon load outs.

Dumb fire missiles = real pants as the targets do not converge and any how they cost a bomb and are limited in supply during a session without constantly redocking.

But Large and Medium gimballed Beams :) :) Oh what fun.

So I have 2 Large Gimballed beams and 2 Medium Gimballed Beams as well as a A class power distributor to feed the monsters :)

Pick ya target, KWS it, get within 1km of it and 1 full pull on the trigger will empty the weapons bank and take out a complete Cobra with 100% shields :) :) :) WOW !!!!!!

It is so nice, cruise up at about 200 speed so comfortably, boost if you need to, does a 360 loop in about 5 seconds in the blue band :)

You need to get close to help the underpowered gimballs and to maximize the locking (need better sensors) but the power is absolutely awesome.

Dropships / Asp = 2 passes. BTW each pass last about 5 seconds :) Anything Cobra and under is usually 1 pass

I might even end up selling the full spec'd Asp now I have this load out.

And the best thing, running with A4 shields, 1 A3 Shield Cell (not used it yet), Chaff, Point Defense and still 224t of cargo. And of course lasers are free and endless.

Just need a A5 FSD to get the range to 15ly.

So if you haven't tried it, the Clipper would make a great bounty or pirate due to the power it has and the cargo space.

It's a wonderful combat ship, but DO NOT use it for interdictions. You'll find yourself shouting "SUBMIT DAMN IT SUBMIT!" at the monitor so that you don't have to pay thousands of credits in repair fees. And then your wife will look at you funny.

be warned - if you use it for interdictions, you'll be lucky to break even.

I've been contemplating this. I'm pretty lazy though, might just buy another one for bounty hunting so I can leave my trade spec'd one alone.

And the ultimate weakness, the only reason I ever bought a python at all: gimbals. I hate gimballed weapons. I guess I got over it, cause the Clipper is what I fly 90% of the time. I've been messing around with loadouts and am currently using a large burst on one wing, a large pulse on the other, and two medium multicannons. I have been thinking about trying two large pulse lasers, one medium pulse laser, and a dumbfire rack.

I think the only thing you have to account for is the cost of repairs on the larger ships as if you take any material hull damage it can get pretty expensive to fix. Otherwise from what I've heard it does sound like the Clipper is a very nice ship to fly.

Just don't go making a big deal out of it :D .

Yup repair costs are stupidly high on the Clipper.

As said the only problem is the guns on the wings, you have to go gimballed really unless you are very good at managing 2 sets of targeting systems.

Why is the Fed Dropship so bad in comparison?

Yes, I know it may have been mentioned before once or twice...but still...the gap is humongous.

Not tried the Dropship, but seen a youtube video comparing the characteristics of it compared to the Clipper and the Clipper wins in 90% of comparisons. There is a big thread about the DropShip, but so far I have stayed clear of them other than using them as target practice.

Going to re-configure my Clipper from A4 to A6 shields and sacrifice 24t of cargo. Multi role ship well capable of earning a decent amount in bounty hunting as well as trading to break up the grind of trading. Collect 200t ish cargo, travel to system, hit Nav point, collect about 100k bounties, head to station, sell and repeat :) Much more fun.

It is a great ship. Currently using mine for exploring as the view is amazing from the cockpit. Used it for trading and much better than the T7. Good in combat but the only downside is having to use all gimballed, prefer fixed myself.

The one thing I had to get used to is the drift when travelling at normal speeds was the slight drift when turning.

Can see myself being in the ship for quite some time.

Very interesting...

I've seen quite a few posts about the Clipper and it seems to be very good as a multi purpose ship.

I was going straight up to the Python, but the nerf thing got me unmotivated.

Is it very difficult to have the rep to buy it?

I guess I'll need to head Empire space...

I've been grinding in my T6 to get to a T7 but I'm wondering if the Clipper is a better option. Lots of cargo space and can fulfill multiple roles. Repair cost is a concern though. Can it land at an outpost or is it too big?

No it uses large pads and so cannot visit outposts. The only thing I don't like about the Clipper.

The clipper is the reason I moved into empire space from the feds starting system. Anyone just starting out in the game needs to give this some very serious thought. Look at the ship wiki and you will see that nothing comes close to the clipper around its price range. nasty imperial salve traders we may be....but we have one of the best looking, cost effective ships in the game ;)

Depends as you need to gain Baron rank in the Empire which means doing the missions and getting the rep of a faction to do so.

I headed to an Empire system and found a station with the Clipper in stock and used that as my home base. I ran missions for the factions as much as possible and also traded between this station and another Empire System to gain reputation in 2 Empire systems to get double reputation and chances for missions. Took me about 10 hours playtime to get the Baron rank.

The Naval Rank progression missions are simple, find these goods, move these goods, kill this bad boy.
