I hate the way "balance" apparently means that any ship should have a decent chance to beat any other ship. Why should a ~7m CR viper stand any chance of ever beating a 200m CR Python? It shouldn't.
Python needs no nerf. It wipes the floor with the viper and the cobra, as well it should.
5 Vipers, being less than 25% of the cost of the Python, and very few Python players would come out victorious (or if they did, would have higher repair cost than the combined rebuys of the vipers that hadn't managed to run away.)
I don't agree the Python needs any form of nerf, ESPECIALLY nerfing it's shields by 33%. Thing is, a viper can take some hull damage. A Python that drops it's shields is utterly beaten, because of insane repair costs and it taking SO VERY LONG for the shields to come back online in it.
EVE was a much better game back before they nerfed everything to make it unpossible for large turrets to hit small ships (I played from beta) and now we have EVE players coming here demanding vipers be turned into invulnerable super ships on EVE logic of small must > large.
The US Navy does not deploy a load of small PT boats. They deploy Destroyers and Carriers.
If we are going to nerf the Python to uselessness, then we should also upgrade point defence so that any vipers coming near a python just get obliterated by PD fire.
It makes me want a single player game so I can play without the stupid balance patches. We're going to end up with another boring soulless game with "progression" replaced with "diversity" and "specialisation" because one ship cannot be "better" than another, only "more specialised".
Meanwhile the PvP crowd can rock around in their cheap disposable ships for near zero all risk, while being able to compete with anything in the field.
You only have to look at how pointless the 'Conda is in PvP (too slow to turn, turrets are useless, completely vulnerable to everything, massive risk no reward) to realise what's going to happen - everyone will just be in Vipers, because even if the Python is situationally better, the increase in rebuy cost means it's not worth flying, ever.
