5 Million Bounty

Heh. And the trolls gather for the feast.

You may choose to say that he won it fair and square and that I was over confident/cocky or you may also choose to see it for what it is: A serious issue in the game that we all play. Regardless of him being at 1% or 100%, I had shields and he did not. I also weigh 5 times more than he does. If the collision stripped my shields and brought me down to X%, that would be one thing. But for me to die and for him to survive? Come on.

Again I'll repeat myself, the money is not the issue here, and especially since he didn't take the 5.3 million out of my pocket, I couldn't care less about the newbie getting lucky. Congrats to him and to all traders who consider this to be a +1 for them.

My point here is that this is a serious glitch that should get some attention from the Devs.

If ramming is so fickle

How did i manage then to go from harmless to mostly harmless by ramming npc pirates with my Anaconda???

(shooting them is too easy so i take them out by ramming ...)

It's just the Clipper. I lost my A-Spec Clipper to an Anaconda by lightly brushing it's hull against the Anaconda that was disabled and floating dead in space. Went crawling in for a closer look, hit it going stupidslow and wham, Ship Destroyed message.

Although not saying I disbelieve the op but where does it say that is the bounty collected from one player?

I often rack my bounties up into the millions before I can be bothered cashing them in.

Obviously the 'victim' admits he had 5 mill bounty but it would be nice to see a break down of how many kills a bounty was from.

So ticket it.

So the moral of the story seems to be - for the time being at least.

When attacked by a Clipper - engage ramming speed!

A comment from the devs on this would be nice... I fly a clipper and am playing my own version of Iron man, so when I die I die. Would be good to know if this is intentional or a bug.

Could be only an glitch is ship models are very primitive.
The clippers wings are rather fragile, so using them to ram implies a lot of shearing force = boom

If one ship is build very compact (cobra hull is very sturdy from an engineering point of view, clipper rather fragile)

So if they compute that using infinite elements then yes... no bug.

What needs attention from the devs is that a criminal can fly around for months with a 5 million bounty and not being hunted by every cop far and wide. Being a criminal is too easy in this game.

It happens more often, big ships with all or near all shields still up getting wrecked by a near-dead enemy crashing into them. I've had my python destroyed several times by a suicide-viper or kamikaze-cobra weighing up to 100x less. I might not agree with Redan's playing style (but that's his to choose) but I cannot deny he is right that the collision sub needs some serious tweaking.

QFT!

Well done CMDR with your lucky win tho!

It could also be that it was no glitch but working as intended. I mean the Cobra has a bulky hull, while the Clipper looks like an elegant fighter plane. If the Clipper is not intended for ramming with its wings because they are a weak spot it might just be that Mr. Pirate made a big mistake rather then being the victim of a bug.

Agreed !

Have you ever seen the 5th gear episode where they ram a massive Volvo into a tiny Renault? Reminds me of that!

Its not really QFT as its pretty simple, you have a huge bounty somewhere, you don't somewhere else :p the empire don't care if the feds hate you, they'd probably like you more! The feds do continue to chase you round whenever you appear in a fed area (or vice versa)

I'd just like to say congrats to Redan for getting a bounty up to 5m. It's like a badge of honor (dishonor? =D ) sometimes. I hope you can get your bounty even higher before someone finally cashes in. Go nuts and remember, "Today is a good day to die".

One could argue that the clipper is very fast for its size and therefore build more with weight in mind, plus an trimaran hull never is as massive than an single hull.

But if other ships of same of higher hull mass xplode as easy then that needs some thought.

"Today is a good day to die".
Today is a good day for someone else to die.
Only over your cold dead body

(Using says you should always contemplate the priorities!)

Well in this case Redan happens to be on the top bounties list so looks pretty conclusive to me.

Well done OP

I don't think ramming should be/is entirely predictable. i.e. big ship squashes small ship. I wonder how many times you'd used it as a tactic before this time?
