5 Million Bounty

One for the little guy - gratz on the bounty :)
And also kudos to the Clipper owner - not everyone has the balls to fly around in open with a huge bounty on their head!

I've had some pretty massive oddities with ramming, and from the patch notes, it looks like it's being looked in to. Nearly got killed when on full shields + full hull + 4 pips in my Asp by a Cobra on 20% hull and no shields. Been rammed by Asps in my Asp where they take no damage (friend confirmed) and I get wiped from full shields full hull.

Re: Attacking near a station. If you're wanted, station won't shoot.

Please tell me what setting can cause this.
So I don't make the same mistake.

If you are not programming E: D, then you will be unable to make the mistake. There have been instances when FD dev people have admitted to having the wrong settings on internal parameters, so that ships do not behave as intended. That does not make it a design problem, but an implementation problem.

So...

This was my bounty.

Here's the full story.

This dude attacked me in front of a station...Forget the fact that the station didn't help at all, despite my allied status with it.

I distance myself from the station and engage. He is not even a worthy target. I strip his shields in moments, bring down his power plant down to like 10% with his hull down to 20% or so. I then choose (like an idiot) to clip him with my wing by ramming him. I assign full pips to shields...Mind you I have more than 2 rings left...and I crash into him with my wing. The impact kills me, despite the fact that his ship weighs 80 T while mine weighs 600. Despite the fact that he was at 20% and I was at 100%. Despite the fact that I had shields and he did not.

What the hell, FD?

This is a problem with many of the larger ships, not just the clipper.

FD doesn't fix crap... Horrible QA...

Definitely, and good to see he's going to get himself back on the most wanted list. Maybe in a different ship though? ;)

There are some serious sour grapes in this thread. Glitch! Glitch! boohoo. brag some more about how many times you can buy your clipper over and over again. Cheers to the OP.

Look, I don't even mind my 3 million credit rebuy cost...

But that bounty should have gone to somebody who was worthy of beating me. Not some stupid glitch that causes my ship to be a tissue.

Luckily you don't get to decide who wins the bounty.

Anyhow, your wing clip stunt deserved you the loss imo

Trying to ram in combat is silly, but he has reason to be annoyed if a collision with an almost destroyed Cobra resulted in the loss of a ship five times the size and in much better condition, as that is clearly a bug.

Hardly matters that he "deserved" to die.

Not necessarily a bug although likely.

Cobra is a nice compact ship, good strong wedge shape by the look of it. I'd imagine the superstructure makes a very strong cell structure, with good diaphragm action going on through the plates

Wing of a Clipper on the other hand is a cantilevered element designed for form it seems as mush as function with a lumpy nacelle on the end of it

Seems to me not a great suprise that the Cobra would rip off the wing nacelle like a toughened razor through butter

@OP, congrats on the bounty!

@Victim, you've just convinced me to avoid buying a clipper till that bug gets patched. Sucks that you got killed that way.

Heh. And the trolls gather for the feast.

You may choose to say that he won it fair and square and that I was over confident/cocky or you may also choose to see it for what it is: A serious issue in the game that we all play. Regardless of him being at 1% or 100%, I had shields and he did not. I also weigh 5 times more than he does. If the collision stripped my shields and brought me down to X%, that would be one thing. But for me to die and for him to survive? Come on.

Again I'll repeat myself, the money is not the issue here, and especially since he didn't take the 5.3 million out of my pocket, I couldn't care less about the newbie getting lucky. Congrats to him and to all traders who consider this to be a +1 for them.

My point here is that this is a serious glitch that should get some attention from the Devs.
Every great military leader know he won not just by skill and planning but by the right amount of luck and good circumstance at the right time.

its not a glitch, your wing is just not as strong as the body of the cobra

You really don't want to be messing with the clippers mass right now, it's pretty bugged.

Cobra's might have bugged ramming damage. I've been extremely successful ramming with them, and almost been destroyed out of the blue when trying to ram them.

I rammed one with an Asp, and it knocked me down to 1% hull (after which I ran back to the station and sold the ship), through my shields, without even taking a ring off the Cobra. I stay well a way from high speed collisions with Cobra now, no matter what ship I'm in.

I have been destroyed 3 times in collisions in my cobra - once when I even had upgraded armor (vs another Cobra mind). Last night I got done in by an Asp in a warzone while on full shields, though I had nothing in SYS.

If they use finite elements models then the clipper wing is indeed very much more fragile than an cobra hull that is wedge shaped.

The clipper is an trimaran, cobra an monohull and thus much stronger.
