Thanks for all the fish

Sorry to hear about your loss. Maybe head to the goons palladium give away tomorrow around 3pm pst?

Nav beacon should probably bounce around instead of being an immovable object that causes instant death, reminds me of the volleyball nets in GTA5 that you can't drive under and are like a brick wall.

I agree or at least it should appear as a pulsating box on your hud even when not targeted and perhaps have a 360 (in 3d?) pulsating light like any self respecting ocean buoy (ok, sure there are unlit buoys out there).

It is not even located right at its target point.

Its like a mine floating in space waiting to take you out.

I have been lucky so far, seen it whizz past the window and even managed to hit it while under light reverse thrusters, but to die by it is totally Un-Fun.\

Edit: and yes we all no and have heard it repeated a million times on here how silly it is to leave the station without insurance, but the OPs point about how easy it is to die in such a meaningless way is a valid one. And how many people do you know in real life that live without the luxury of insurance?

Never...fly...with..ship..or..cargo...you...cant..ensure.

No salty tears from me....Live and learn.

It is good that it happened to you now because the pain will teach you to have enough insurance always...
Imagine, you would not be dead and get somedays Conda - with no insurance (because you did not learn this hard way)

P.s. : Clipper + Palladium is nothing, not even 1/2 of some modules for Python, Conda or T9

For the average gamer who can't play for hours on end, it is a lot more than nothing.

I always check out games before I jump in so I knew all about the buy back mechanic before I started, but is it really so much to ask for the Devs to include a simple heads up when new players go to buy a ship?

No, I don't mean the OP.

I generally don't upgrade my ship too much but have done recently and the buy back cost has gone up three times the amount before.
I try to keep 75% in reserves.

75% of rebuy cost?? You are asking for trouble. That's like saying you like to keep 75% of the amount of gas you need to get to the next station in the tank.

I have an 84t asp with about 600k insurance and 20 m in the bank. Which mean i can afford to lose a typical trading load of about 1m and die about 12 times. And i still get nervous. And i want to get a T7 but i intend to wait for a while... Cakl me mr cautious

Maybe also a servant who flies for you instead of doing it yourself?

Go home with that request. It will not happen.

He clearly deserves that lesson.

I disagree, a simple display of text, that you can toggle on/off through settings would be a good idea. I don't see why not, it's the year 3300, software like that is surely available for those that have a tendency to forget or get distracted by other stuff.

It's the year 2015, and i kindly suggest to fix the "forget" and "distraction" bug on the user end.

I'm going to pitch in... as a new player (started on Monday) I happen to have rather hands-on experience how many of the core mechanics of this game are not explained in the neat, modern way of nice colourful pop-up tutorial windows and whatnot. There's a ton of information you actually have to dig for.

"What happens when you die" was one of the questions I started to ask after I had earned a couple dozen thousand credits. I read the manual. I did forum searches. I stumbled upon the thread from beta times describing future plans for death penalty, I got confused. "What is the current state?" "Is the manual up to date?" Partially conflicting and/or outdated information can make things unclear indeed.

Anyhow my personal saving grace was the finance tab in the in-game in-cockpit right-hand computer screen status window thing (yes, very clearly stated. What's the official name anyway? :p) - Insurance%, rebuy cost, i just figured that okay that's probably the amount of credits I need to have on me in case I die. Haven't had to test the mechanic yet (touch wood), and hopefully won't have to in a while either.

However, considering that people can apparently spend hundreds of hours of their time on the game and still remain unaware of this particular mechanic I'd say some kind of extra awareness campaign is in order (mandatory tutorial comes to mind, but well... yeah. Someone suggested a popup dialog warning sort of thing early in the thread - well, not a bad idea really, just if implemented please give us the option to disable it :p)

Your remarks are uncalled for

Political correctness is dead. Post on the internet, you get what the internet gives you, good and bad.

Look at it this way, be thankful people are being upfront, honest and not holding back. Listen to them and you'll learn something. That's why we're all here, right?

Back when I was a kid we didn't have tutorials. The best we had was a game manual. And we read them. Beyond that, we had our brains, and we used them.

Good post and a fine example of "How to Play Games".

A quick comment on the manual; it's a "living" manual and should be up-to-date with patches. It states this in the manual, on the first page, I believe.

Like I said in the other thread, FD needs to implement a toggled in-game warning about not having enough insurance coverage. This is happening way too often.

Plus another to not leave the station as its dangerous out there.

Do you really, honestly think putting a warning up is going to make any difference? are you really that naive?
