Where is the Empire!!!!?

from my view the empire are pretty much evil as evil can be and i love them (shame on me). Feds are basically the old people of the milkyway. They collect their pension on a friday (earth is fed space) and enjoy a glass of hot chocolate before bed whilst actually getting on with the alliance and hating the Empire.........
The Alliance are pretty much like the city states of greece. They love to do what they want but dont need a government to attack the poop out of people if they think they are in the wrong

In the federation man exploits man. In the empire, it's the other way 'round.
They're not slaves per se They are people who have willingly entered into a fixed period of slavery than face the embarrassment and dishonour of living with a debt. Honest guv

Wait what!?!? Prefer not..... You have no idea what a bunch of horrible mind controlling creeps the Federation are do you?
The glorious Empire (may she reign forever) is modelled after the ancient Roman empire. While yes, we do have Imperial Slaves, this is not as bad as the Federation would have you believe. Imperial Slavery is voluntary. If a citizen finds themselves in dire financial straights and deep in debt, the can indenture themselves for a contracted period of time to have that debt expunged. We do not allow involuntary slaves in the Empire, unlike the skeevy Federation, who claim loudly to be against all slavery and yet seem to have a thriving black market for poor unfortunates that get forced into slavery by pirates and evil corporations etc. Also, if you are a bounty hunter and accidentally wing (shoot) an Imperial Enforcer, you will get a bounty, but our stations will allow you to land and pay it off, unlike the Federation who will turn the full force of the station against you. (At least I have never been killed by an Imperial station when rushing back to port to clear my name).
Its not as simple as good guys and bad guys Im afraid.
Although the feds are are clearly the bad guys.

With the emperor currently unavailable and unfit to rule, shouldn't it fall to the Earls to rule sections of the Empire for him? If I remember my British history at least... since I don't think Rome had Earls... Where can I claim my Empire system? I'll take LTT 9810 if no one minds.
Perhaps a bit off topic, but could encourage OP to join the Empire with dreams of one day becoming an Earl themselves.

Empire or Federation? Or maybe Alliance? Or even go and get friendly with an Independent? Or even head to an Anarchy System where anything goes and all the Pirates hang out! Even become one yourself!
Federation seems to be mainly about rules and laws, and if you do something wrong they don't seem to like it. If this dislike involves the Security Service they have a fairly simple way of dealing with it! IF you are still alive after all the shooting they then ask you what questions they should be asking you! Slaves are a no-no, but this seems to mean there is a thriving black market trade in them.
Remember, there are two types of slaves, those poor souls totally enslaved around many systems and traded by Pirates and dubious traders on the black market. The other type are the Imperial Slaves, already mentioned in the thread above. The two are NOT the same thing, or commodity!
This brings me onto the Empire, where they are fairly laise faire about your dealings, as long as it doesn't do too much to upset the balance of things. You can get on well with them if you help swing things towards the Empire. If you should acquire a bounty for any reason, just turn up at the local station in a timely fashion (within 24 hours of getting said bounty) and they are quite happy for you to pay it off! You can even progress in their Navy to Lord or even Baron!
Of course there is the Alliance too, but there are few of these and some are well scattered. But it is another way.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas, I'm a bountyhunter so the Empire seems to be the better place, plus I also smuggle some stuff here and there when it's required. Because I got caught smuggling slaves and some blackboxes the Feds are now unfriendly towards me, which seems to be a bit harsh. Even mass murderers don't get the hate as quickly as smugglers.

still moving) and the whole rotten state collapses into civil war.
We of the older generation remember the 'terraforming' of Achener 6b... that was nothing more than an outright genocide of a living habitable world.
