Remove the watching blast doors lower game

Simply hitting launch from the pad takes about 10 seconds for the spin and 10 seconds for the shields to lower, so 20 seconds total.
I'd be surprised if those times were accurate. It doesn't feel that long.

I have nothing against speeding it up, though.

Like on aircraft carriers before a catapulting a plane I always thought blast shields stayed up before and during a launch.

Yes! UP during LAUNCH! But in this game, it stays up during landing (getting in the way btw), and is lowered before launch.
And it's on the wrong side anyway.
And all our ships are VTOL, therefore blast shields are not needed.

This thing bothers me too, specially because they take so long and serve *no purpose*. I've searched the net for the reason why those things even exist, since you are not at full thrusters when landing, and if you take off at full thrust, the thing is directly ahead of you. If someone has any idea why they exist, it would bring me a bit of peace.

Is there really any need to turn the ship around before it takes off when you're on a external pad? Inside, I can understand because you are turned to face the mailslot. Outside is a different matter because, even NPC ships take off vertically from the pad.

The blast shields are behind you when you land but everyone, even the DC comes in from above so the blast shields serve no purpose at all. Even if they did, you get turned around so your exhaust blast if you took off horizontally would take out the control tower for the pad because the blast shield is in front of you and not shielding the tower behind you.

This is spades.

IMHO those blast things should be going down as soon as you press LAUNCH.

I agree, when you set launch, as your ship spins around, these should already be dropping at the same time, it would be a better experience to actually turn and then hear ship released within a second of the pad rotation effect stopping. Funny thing is, if you are in the hangar, and select return to surface, these will drop and stay dropped until you select launch, which will be an almost instant release.

I have ticketed the same for external pads unnecessary rotate and got a reply that this was the devs decision and if a change is needed to take it to the forums...

..of course, support tickets are for bugs oO Why the hell would you ticket them your opinion? =P

So I moved on to large ships and as reported the blast shields on large pads are already down when you spin around so you can take off immediately. Small and medium should do the same, seems like an oversight that has cost untold wasted player hours.

To summarize, waiting for blast shields to lower serves no purpose, wastes time, and large pads don't do it making them inconsistent, please change.

In my experience, I noticed that blast shields are down with small ships. Only the medium takes forever and waits for you to spin around before lowering (have not tested a large ship yet)

It just fine. In another build it was way to fast and Very Unrealistic. Op you really want to ruin role playing game aspect don't you.

No I don't want to role play by being forced to watch blast shields go down, which serve no purpose. I suggested before they could still lower but release the ship immediate for those like you who wish to role play, as you can sit on the pad and watch them.

The fact that large pads don't do the same shows it not necessary for any kind of technical reason, it is purely for show yet not consistent.

I don't get it, use the sequence to set destination and such, launch, go?

I don't get it why make me wait? Well it doesn't anymore because large pads don't do it, huh? I setting destination while outside station waiting for mass lock.

You don't role play that fine. But other people Do. Face that fact and 10 seconds is not the End of the world.

Which is why I don't want to prevent your role play?! Why don't you want to force role play?! 10 seconds adds up to hours of time, which it has for me.

You still haven't explained in a role play way why large pads do not make you wait? Simple truth is it make no sense and isn't even consistent, hard to roleplay when it's not even consistent or logical.

I use the time to set route , its just enough.
so no problem with it.

So why would you care if it was removed? Same time either way for you?
