Why doesn't the system map look like this??

OMG, Yes please! And make it clickable.

When exploring, it is quite frustrating not to be able to find the particular planet you're looking for, or even plot a most-efficient course through the system to visit all the worlds.

Just make the current one clickable, and I'll be happy.

The concept one is pretty, but functionally it might not be the best choice. For one, it can't be to scale, obviously, but for some systems it would be very misleading. And many would expect such a view to be correct in regards to the orbits as well, so there's more calculations and inaccuracies to deal with.

I like the one we have because it presents all the data right there, shows the relationship of the objects simply, and actually teaches a bit of astronomy in order to be able to use it fully (as in, what do all those numbers mean?). And that's not a bad thing.

Doesn't need to be to scale, but I'd like a functioning orrery representation. The game already knows where they are in relation to each other, so it shouldn't be that burdensome to implement.

Also that was from the days when we thought there was going to be some kind of orrery, which there still might be at some point.

It would be better if the galaxy map had two general sets of zoom levels: interstellar level, and interplanetary level, all from the same Galaxy Map. At least in Beta, clicking and selecting a star on the Galaxy Map separates out all the individual stellar components once you zoom right in. It would be even better if you could then zoom even further instead of having a separate orrery viewer as was the case in FE2, and even from here view and select individual known objects.

At present, the system map we have right now is good enough for showing geophysical, political and economic information without clutter, but even then linking it up with the navigation computer (as the Galaxy Map does) would be even better.

Let me ask those that are saying they have to have this.

What extra would you get out of that type of layout that you can't currently? I know, it's prettier and all, but from a functional point of view. Just wondering.

The main thing is that mock up looks a lot more polished then what we have in game. It doesn't have to be a lot more efficient or provide a ton of new info to make it a better choice. I also think it's easier to read and probably would look a hell of a lot better in 3D and VR. It would be nice to actually see the planets and stellar bodies move on their orbits and axis.

It should also be tied to the galaxy map. Zoom down on a star you've selected and get this system view seamlessly.

I personally think the current system map is really fugly and poorly implemented control wise.

as long as we dont lose the current system view when it happens, the current view serves a valuable purpose as a quick flashcard style voerview of WHAT a system has, id hate if that was removed, because searchign to see if a system has a specific station on that map would be HELL, however for explorers and bounty hunters the orrery would be beneficial"

in short, add one, keep the other, everyone's happy

but who are we kidding, FD prolly doesnt care
