The Rings npc farm thread - Detailed explain inside:

Works very nicely, thanks OP! +rep for you.

I forgot how fun it is to fly combat missions in my Cobra. Been too long in my Lakon Type 6 :D

And is it just me, or did the bounties appear to go up over time?

Stupid question, but how do you drop into a ring location away from the Res point?

Just fly right up to the rings and drop your speed as you get closer and closer. I simply fly on an very low speed and your ship will drop out automatically with a 'too close' warning.

Quite literally, fly into the ring. Do it at minimum speed and you shouldn't take any damage. If your timing is impeccable you can manually drop close enough that you can fly in under thrusters, but do it too early and you'll be boosting for ages.

edit: Ninja'd.

Bounty dont go up over time... you got just lucky with spawns.

To drop into ring, just fly into it below 1000kms.

Sorry for the silly question, but when you say planetary rings, do you mean planets which have rings around them? (e.g Saturn?)
yes, as strange as it seems, a planetary ring is actually a ring around a planet..outstanding, i know...

Well now, this is good to know.

And for those who've had trouble deciding on a loadout, it depends heavily on your playstyle. I've tried every weapon config money can buy on my Cobra, and I keep ending up back on class 2 pulse/beam laser with class 1 multicannons on the wings. I've tried cannons on the wings, multicannon and railgun instead of pulse laser, all lasers and all projectiles, and so far the only good balance I've found for long haul combat is just that; balance. 4 pips to weapons, use your lasers like they're going out of fashion and save the multicannons for when the shields drop and you can stay in the fight a lot longer than any other combo I've tried so far.
I only use gimballed weapons too, apart from that one time I tried the railgun, but that's because I like to fly very up close and personal with the target. You basically can't miss even when they're chaffing, and no ship turns fast enough to keep fixed weapons sighted at that range. I can see the advantage of fixed lasers if you're the kind who likes to snipe from the edge of effective weapons range, but for me gimbals work best.
The main downside to my combat style though is a higher frequency of accidentally high-fiving the enemy pilot when we crash headlong into each other at flank speed.

I don't seem to be having any luck with this.
Normal RES are what you'd expect, sometimes lots of sidewinders sometimes cobra's, don't get much else.

But I tried entering belts at randon places (and from the edge exactly like OP) but I keep getting a couple of sys authority vessels and nothing else. Tried again and again, reloaded, different planet/belt etc, just a couple of stupid police vehicles and occasional clean miner!!

Do things like system security/type/population etc matter? I'm in a high tech empire boom system with 25mil population.

Same for me, I think we should try it in an Anarchy system as OP suggests.

I did something similar to this to make a few mils, I found in extraction points there are 3 main wanted enemy types, 1. sidewinders (0-5k cr bounty) 2. cobras (2-20k cr) 3. anacondas (5-100+k cr). Due to the abundance of police, killing anacondas were easy and made about 800k/hr, rivaling early trading in profits. The problem is that anacondas were a rare spawn, perhaps 1/20 chance or less, so leaving due to ammo/damage may not guarantee the 'condas will still be there.

I may have a go at OP's new way of getting credits.

I stumbled into this last month, was in a ring with Anaconda spawn. I thought it was the same as RES (ah, so the RES is actually the whole ring, nice) so when ppl talk about RES farming, they are talking about this. Didn't know it's not common knowledge lol

I _think_ a good chance for a pirate spawn will be in a system which has a strong influence pirate faction (you can check on the system map, pirate factions have names like "mob", "syndicate", "gang", "mafia" or "rats" :) )

You can do this at any static encounter sight, such as roid belts, nav beacons, extractions points or rings. But as OP says, if you are in a Anarchy system really close to empire it works really well. I can't really understand why it's mainly Empire bounties you collect in an anarchy system (anywhere)?. It should be in relation to the systems proximity to an allegiance.

However I've managed to gain 100k more a night by relogging at nav beacons in my home system (fed) when wanted no longer shows up directly. Naturally it works even better if the system has low security.

But, after I've started doing this I feel like I'm grinding and it isn't as fun as before. Still, I can't manage to go back to just hanging around and waiting at Nav beacons. My time is more valuable than that.

I've done this a bit near Lave, netting Alliance -> Federation -> Empire bounties in that order, so proximity to the main factions plays a role.

Nice info, I'll try this tonight. Only problem is I use class 2 mutli-cannons, might have to change load out for this.
