Update the database to reflect this?

I'm going to go looking for this and if it's not in the game right now I'm going to rage quit and write a huge rant post. ;)

I'll join you. Plus, if I don't also discover: Thargoids, an autopilot for everything, automatic trading, and huge signs everywhere saying: "This way to instant Elite status", then I am going to stage a sit-in at FD's offices, too. ;)

I love the caption 'This artist's impression shows how the ring system might look in our night sky
if they were put around Saturn', yet the picture appears to be early morning or twilight. :)
.
Anyway, impressive ring system!

That second picture in the article is just mind blowing.

Newly discovered Exo-Planet has Gigantic Rings. Something for FD to add?

http://www.iflscience.com/space/planet-has-gigantic-rings-200-times-bigger-saturns

"A young exoplanet called J1407b has a gigantic ring system that’s much heavier and about 200 times larger than the rings of Saturn. Astronomers discovered the giant planet or possibly a brown dwarf (that is, a failed star) when it eclipsed a very young sun-like star called J1407. This ring system—the first of its kind to be discovered outside the Milky Way—has at least 30 rings, each of which measures tens of millions of kilometers in diameter.

"You could think of it as kind of a super Saturn," University of Rochester’s Eric Mamajek says in a news release. Mamajek’s team discovered the star and its unusual eclipses in 2012 using data from a survey designed to detect gas giants moving in front of their parent star. Then, using adaptive optics and Doppler spectroscopy, a team led by Matthew Kenworthy of Leiden Observatory in the Netherlands found that the repeated diming of J1407's starlight was caused by a giant planet with an enormous ring system. The findings will be published in The Astrophysical Journal."

THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN THE UNIVERSE!

Thinks like that would make the exploring extremly intresting if you can find such astronomical objects.

The devs have to add new discoveries into the game using updates. I'm sure its not there yet.

They had to add the new kepler planets using an update. Sorry, no super Saturn unless its randomly generated in.

So how often is the galaxy map itself updated with astronomers' discoveries?

I was reading on CNN today about the discovery of a brown dwarf whose ring system is 200 times the size of Saturn. I'm curious: when astronomers discover cool stuff like this, do these discoveries eventually end up in the E : D galaxy for us to find?

http://www.cnn.com/2015/01/28/tech/giant-planetary-ring-system/index.html

Personally I think it would be pretty awesome to be able to discover something like that in the E : D galaxy after its been discovered in real life.

This happens. Recent discoveries made by astronomers have been included in the galaxy model. No doubt these latest discoveries will be too.

yeah, but 200x times bigger then the saturn... that could easly fit an complete system just with the ring o_O

I would like them to implement the top 10 biggest stars first, we have known about them for years!

A disappointing trip was had to 2 of the top six, only to find them smaller than the average class I
